Nagano Sushi

Sit down, open the menu and think.. wow.. I'd better be committed to this experience. It's going to be at least $50 for 2. Well, I went inside, asked myself what I felt like and decided I didn't really want the cooked chicken over rice $11.95. So, my friend and I got the Sushi Party (which is normally for takeout.) Our waitress was fun, knowledgeable and ended up making the experience really enjoyable. We closed them down and didn't get pushed out the door at all. The rolls looked great and I'll be trying those next. The sushi party, with nigiri and a few rolls was more than enough for two. Don't let the prices scare you, just know you'll enjoy the experience.

We went in for late night snacks. It's hard to get too excited about hot dogs and garlic fries (which were pretty good) but what was nice was watching the big screen TV while eavesdropping while some drunk women harassed the ogling Italian guys.
I agree with the positive reviews here. It's relatively close to my home, so I figured I'd start at the top and work my way down the menu. I had the #1 Chicken Taco Plate. They were delicious and the homemade tortillas were a definite plus. The guacamole, is essential and is NOT included when you order the tacos a la carte. Each time I've gone, the food was good.

The negative reviews here must be from the owners at either a competing restaurant or somebody who has something personal against this place. The food was good and when I get off my Master Cleanse, I'm heading back there.

Gaspare's has the kind of comfort Italian you can go to over and over and over. The first time I experienced his pizza on Geary, it was Double Pepperoni, Sausage, Mushroom and Artichoke hearts. YUMMMY.. it's a pizza for topping lovers rather than bread lovers.

Then, when I experienced Gaspares in San Rafael, I had the Veal Milanesa, Bruschetta, Calamari, Robin's Cheesecake (super delicious and I'm not even a huge cheesecake fan) Tiramisu.. put it this way, our small party had a great time.

Try this place, add Gaspare and Danny (in San Rafael) to your family. Your kids will love this food for the next 20 years.

Roadside BBQ

What strikes me most about this place is the price. It's not ridiculous, but you're not pleasantly surprised by anything extra; a cornbread muffin, a small bowl of beans... anything really. The problem is the direct comparison to the Japanese place across the street where they overwhelm you with extra goodies. Back to BBQ. I recently had the meaty potato with Brisket. Again, it was fine, the cheese hadn't melted all the way, the meat was pretty warm and it was presented decently. I just wish for $10 ($9.96) they'd throw in a muffin. So for $10, you get a meaty potato and water. It's not a far stretch to think.. hmmm.. I could make this at home pretty easily. I imagine if you took a party of four here and had drinks and sides, it'd be $100.. so I'm agreeing with another review here saying it's just ok.. but if you're craving BBQ out in this part of the city, you'll probably give it a chance. (If you're the owner reading this.. throw in some southern hospitality and you'll win a lot more

A gal outside was eating someting that looked really yummy - with strawberries, slivered almonds, and caramelized apples - turns out it's their french toast and includes cream cheese between the slices.. yummy. That and a cup of house coffee made for a nice breakfast. I recommend it - especially if you want a nice sunny (south-facing) seat to enjoy your coffee in.

This place is within walking distance from our new digs, so we wanted to give them a chance. When sitting down, the staff seemed quite friendly, if not completely fluent in English. The pictured signs on the windows showed prices of $6.95, $7.95 so that's kinda of what I expected. However, it seems the dinners are twice the lunch for many dishes. Not reading Korean, I left unclear on the differences. Review begins here. My wife and I each got something we'd had before (to be safe) I got the bibim bop (rice, veggies and meat with egg in iron bowl, she got the chop chae (rice noodles with beef slices). She tried to suggest a $9.95 appetizer, but I figured we'd have room for dessert if it wasnt enough. Then she proceeded to set down the 9 yes NINE side dishes. This is the proper Korean experience. Everything from cold bean sprouts, rice jelly, seaweed, anchovies (the dried version) and three spicy dishes. The food was served hot and fresh.

The wait staff were friendly but didn't appear overly competent .. Er.. maybe empowered is the right word. It's like if the owners said..
This is the kind of place you take somebody you want to share food, wine (optional) and great conversation. You need a reservation and you can stay as long as you want. They have some delicious small plates as well as entrees. I decided on a couple of small plates and a side. Moroccan Meatballs of lamb wrapped in some tasty pork wrap. Stuffed dates started the meal and as you eat them, you have a warm sweet + meat sensation. It sounds a bit weird, but imagine having a piece of bacon on jellied toast (okay, bad imagery, but it was delicious) The cinnamon cous cous was a side and was enjoyable and not over-filling. I didn't try the wine, but it seemed everybody else in the place did. Very warm and cozy. My suggestion would be to design a better table system (a rack to lift something off the single surface?). By the time I had a cup of tea, a glass of water, a bread plate, a small plate, an appetizer plate, a bread basket.. I felt I was juggling my table space to not knock something off.
