A great local sammie joint. Dutch crunch is a must...and throw on any of the choices and you'll be happy. The garlic/jalapeno housemade spread is tasty. For about $10 (or less) you will have a huge sammie, and a side and unless you have a HUGE appetite you will be full for the rest of the day. RECOMMEND

They started as just a dessert spot...and by the looks of it they do a great job. I have to say I'm more savory than sweet though. So when i heard they did 1 sandwich a day...and it was fried chicken I was intrigued. They do an amazing job, the sammie was amazing, simple, nicely balanced, a good size for the $7.25 price tag. Its not greasy, or overwhelming...just perfect in size and flavour...recommend!

This is actually in diamond heights, not noe valley. ANYWAY. We visited last week for dinner. The food was mediocre overall. Sizzling rice soup was solid, a little under seasoned but OK. Sizzling rice shrimp was slathered in a goopy sweet and sour sauce...not pretty. The chinese broccoli was undercooked by a few minutes. Su mi was just OK. The decor is 80's christmas themed with a kinda depressing looking bar area.

i really wanted to like this place. i didn't. It's sushi and ...mexican? i don't really know. They serve sushi, sashimi, cilantro chicken, filet mignon, ensalata asada , sake and mexican coke. I checked out another web site and people were raving about the calamari, ecstasy roll and filet...so that is what we had and assorted sashimi. The calamari came out about 2 minutes after we ordered it...even before we had drinks. One of the owners actually brought it over and i was amazed he would even bother serving it. It was SO obviously undercooked , greasy and soggy...gross. The roll was equally unappealing..it was tempura style but again greasy...i think their oil wasn't hot enough. The sashimi was OK. Salmon was best...but thats kinda idiot proof. The tunas were too room temperature. The filet was lovely and is served with a truly lovely jalapeno corn cakey thing. It was the reason , along with the service, this place gets a neutral and not negative. Maybe we just had an off day?

I had a great time here with a girlfriend. We had a reservation but decided to sit at the bar...a great choice. The bartender, Dave, was super friendly and made me several different concoctions that were all very lovely. For food we tried a few items: grilled romaine salad---delicious, mushroom and onion pizza, a lovely thin crust but slightly dense in texture, perfectly balanced and a side of their mac & cheese---YUM. They were doing the dine about town menu and it looked great! French onion soup, seared scallops and geez...some dessert...I'm not a dessert person so it didn't appeal to me.
I will be back to try the sliders :0)

I'm grabbed a spicy green curry with chicken for lunch and I have to say i was very pleasantly surprised. It had a really nice punch of heat...it seems like though i love green curries they usually are not spicy. I think they must do most take out and delivery because there is never anyone there. Very friendly service. I will order delivery from here soon!

Just barely OK. I tried the combo pork sammie and the bbq pork sammie. The combo was fairly awful, i don't mind head cheese but this was hard & crazy gelatinous...could barely chew through it. The bbq was a tad better but 1/2 was unedible grizzle. If i was desperate for a vietnamese sammie and couldn't make it to saigon in the TL i MIGHT go back. Service was nice. They had a very amusing sign on the register saying other places were "highjacking" their menu....well if so I hope "they" are doing a better job of it.

I have to say I didn't know anything about Pacific Catch...I did know they had a location in the Marina...then i saw this one in my hood show up and i thought...oh it's a chain. Well i decided to check it out anyway as I had some time to kill.
We'll its not a chain. There are now a total of 3...and the cool thing is they only serve seafood that is on the 'green light" list. (i.e. not farmed or overfished. etc) They also composte, recycle, use bamboo in their restaurants...etc...trying to be as green as possible AND they are affordable...everything is under $15. I had the fried tilapia w/ sweet potato fries. The fries were OMG good. The fish was good but lacking a bit of flavour...i hate to say it but just a splash of salt would probably perk it up. My bartender Brad was EXCELLENT...super upbeat and fun. I think this is the face of the future of restaurants. I will go back in a heart beat...I love they are trying to be ecologically conscience.
Peace

Stopped in for lunch over the holidays. It was pretty packed and there was a small wait. We had the french onion soup---Very lovely, great broth perfect amount of cheese. Fish and chips was tasty, flavourful and not too greasy. The Cobb salad was huge and exactly what you would expect for a Cobb. Service was good. It's too dark inside for my likings...especially in the middle of a sunny day, but it is a cute little place overall.

My 1st time here Dec 2007. We had the salmon and the grilled calamari apps. The salmon was ridiculously salty, we left 1/2 and it was taken off the bill. The calamari was PERFECTLY cooked and the bed of white beans ---fabulous...and also too salty...but not as salty as the salmon. The dungeness crab salad was very simple and clean...a tad expensive @ $15 and very little crab, but a nice balance of flavours. The warm olives were lovely and not salty at all! and i need to find a place to buy them! The wild nettle ravioli was nicely prepared, great flavours. The hanger steak was a dissappointment, it had a gamey quality to it and as opposed to a regular hanger this looked like a mini beef tenderloin and it came with OK frites...on the cold side.
Overall i liked the quality but ya really gotta take a break on the salt

I'll give it a positive becasue it was a lot better than several others I have ordered from in the area. Nothing was too greasy, but it also lacked flavour. The Mongolian beef (HOT) had no spice at all...same for the Hot and spicy eggplant---no heat. Hot and Sour soup was tasty, house chow mein---again just OK. You can do ALOT worse...and like i said not too greasy

The food was fabulous...no doubt about it. The 6 of us had an amazing time, a bottle of wine with every course. The service was spectacular, the sommilier picked us great wines within the boundaries given. At $280 per person (no wine pairing) its a pricey pricey offering and while it was fantastic there are a lot less expensive and equally fabulous restaurants offering a better bargin( think 1/2 the price WITH wine pairing), the tasting at Aureole in Vegas comes to mind... and from what others have said Michael Minna here in town. I am totally glad were invited to the amazing dinner and can't say a bad thing about it, but its unlikely i will go back when there are so many other excellent options.
On a side note...the patrons were RIDICULOUSLY stuffy. I think 99% of the people were there because they read somewhere it was the place to go and then brag about it to your friends later and they quietly sat there and disected thier food and whispered to each other about it. ENJOY IT people

KOBE BEEF BURGER! OMG...juicy, succulent, tender, amazingly mouth watering. We brought 2 bottles of caymus special select 1990 & 91 to enjoy with them...to die for. Another notables : Mushroom soup...soooo mushroomy, earthy goodness and the perfect amount of cream. The veal sweetbreads with butternut squash also amazing, perfectly crunchy outside and tender inside. Michale Bauer reviewed this place last week and i was frustrated that i needed to hear about it from him when i live less than 2 miles from here...grrr. BUT, i am very happy to have found it none the less. I orderd 2 pizza to pick up 1) potato w/pancetta, rosemary and gorgonzola and 2) slow braised pork w/ tomato, red onion, chilis and tallegio. Both pies were really flavourful. The crust wasn't quite as thin as i think...i was hoping pizetta 211...as the menu kinda reminds me of it...but the crust here isn't quite as thin to my liking. The gorgozola on the pototo pie was just a tad too rich as was the roast pork on the other. BOTH AMAZING flavours...but a bit intense for the pie. That being said i really enjoyed them both and will be back. Its a tiny , very cozy spot inside, there will be a wait...so be prepared...or just grab a pie to go.

I have a couple friend that love this place and head over every month or so. I went with them once and had a great time...but don't honestly recall the food.
We went this weekend as we ended up in the neighbourhood with our puppies and they have a good sized patio.
The beer was dissapointing since it is a brewery. The flavour was there but totally flat, we tried the amber and the porter...same for both.
The clam chowder was solid, flavourful and not too thick. The calamari had potential. It was very lightly battered---a good thing...but too greasy. The fish and chips was decent...if only it could have arrived to the table still warm...the fish came out luke warm and the calamari came out not even that warm.
I might try it again if i ended up in the area again. It's a popping spot, a lot of locals, live music most nights...seems like a great neighbourhood spot

OK...I have only 1 item from this place but it is now my FAVORITE place EVER for pork buns. Generally I don't care for them baked OR steamed...all bread no meat...not how i like my food.
They are baked here with a slightly caramelized top...so slightly sweet, and about twice the size of normal ones....and chocked full of yummy, sweet pork. I'm in love. All this and for ONLY $1.10! 1 bun was enough for my belly...but my taste buds and eyes wanted MORE! I hate to share this place really cuz they have been sold out now once because of another review...DAMN YOU DAVID MCFADDEN :0) lol

Have to say i was impressed with the food. I had kinda envisioned this place more of a restaurant (you order at the register and the food is delivered)...but my disspointment was soon forgotten as we sampled a couple of the items.
We started with Martabak for $4.50
crispy roti pratha stuffed with minced meat, green onions and eggs.
It was perfectly cooked...slightly crunchy and luscious inside.
Then we had the:
Beef Rendang for $6.99
Beef cubes slow-cooked in Indonesian spices, served with jasmine rice
The food was flavourfull and perfectly cooked , not too greasy, nice fresh ingredients. The owner was super friendly and even though we walked in right at 3pm when they close he happily served us. I will be back to try more. Good prices, great service, cute place.

After reading the very brief article on Julia a week ago in the food section we decieded we HAD to go!
Korean BBQ -taco truck style- I have eaten there twice in the past week....seeking it out, not because I live or work in the area. The only Korean food I havn't tried is the chicken. The spicy pork is AWSOME! Tender and flavourful and that along with some kimchee fried rice---OMG!!! I'm in heaven....but not for the bland , non- spicy crowd. The beef is also nice and tender. The kimchee is EXCELLENT...not as good as my boyfriend's mums...but damn close.
Even the sandwiches are tasty...all the same basic ingredients - beef, spicy pork and chicken with some chili sauce/paste added on a french roll.
do yourself a favour and give it a go! www.seoulonwheels.com

Nice atmosphere, good service and flavourful food. We were craving something really spicy and though we asked for it super hot it really wasn't all that spicy :0(
We tried the calamari, perfectly cooked and i believe it is cooked with a chickpea batter---nice touch. The assorted naan was very good though a tad pricey at $8.50. Had chicken curry and seabass for mains. The curry was excellent the seabass was overcooked and the flavour was a bit odd...smokey flavour to it...defiently not the highlight. Overall the food was very good but the price tag is a bit hard to swallow especially for the portion size, i prefer my hole-in-the-wall indian restaurants.

Well I should probably eat here again before I write this review...I had just come from the Family Winemakers Tasting...so after 4 hours of drinking wine perhaps anything would taste good. That being said we had the hottest of the chicken wings and they were prepared well but they lacked any flavour just had serious heat. Fries were good nice and crisp. We shared the with whiz steak sammie. Good meat, juicy. I've never had the real deal holyfield so can't compare it to Philly...but solid. I like the sports bar feel to it as well.

I am basing this review on the food not the wine. For a wine bar they have a very creative diverse menu...maybe too much so. We ordered the white garpachio soup shot with green grape. It tasted of cream and garlic and had a very gritty texture...not great. We then HAD TO HAVE the trio of meats: foie gras pot de creme, pig trotters and boar pate. The foie tasted like apple pie...yes I am serious. It had nutmeg and something else in there and was topped with a reisling gelee. The trotters had a light crust and were highly sesoned. The boar was served with grainy mustard , cornichon and what looked like pickled beet. Ok...i love creativity in food as much as the next person...but you should be able to recognize what the food item is...or else what is the point. If someone would have asked I would have said the foie was actually an apple pie pot de creme. I would have had NO idea what the trotter was and I would recognize the pate as a very rough pate...but without flavour. I won't go bac

We wanted to take my b/f's parents out for lunch this past saturday...we had puppy with us so needed a patio. The place looked upscale and a nice looking menu. We were sat...and we sat and sat and finally got drinks. We sat even longer and finally placed our order....over an hour of sitting we gave up. Dave got up to pay for the drinks and the food came...we looked at it and it was awful...so we left money for drinks and went and grabbed a sandwhich. The service was AWFUL. No one spoke english well enough to understand us and they generally didn't care. Won't be back, don't recommend.

I ordered the creme fraische for myself....but next time im going for the peanut with fleur de sel nuggets and strawberry basalmic. Tasty, creamy, fresh and yummy. Highly recommend.

This is a chinese/korean place. Run by chinese but serves a combo of chinese/korean food. The hot & sour soup was great. Nice rich broth, flavourful not too hot or sour...nicely balanced. The shrimp dumplings were lovely, toothsome dumplings not too thick though. The wontons were a bit too much not great flavour and too greasy. The black bean noodles were OK...kinda flavourless. The chicken wings were AWSOME...OMG perfectly crunchy and while i generally prefer hot wings the sweet sauce was perfect. Dry fried green beans were OK...cooked perfectly but needed a bit of a pop. Ordered delivery from them tonight (7/26/07) on the on going attempt to find the best pizza delivery in our neighbourhood. The flavours were actually really tasty. We had 1/2 bianco which is buttermilk sauce, ham, sausage (though there was none on there) jalepeno and onions and the other half was the house special...standard meat and veg combo. They both had some spice to them and as I said both flavourful but the crust, which i ordered thin crust was a bit thick and not crispy enough. Overall a great experience and would order again as it is better than many out there.

in our quest to try new places in our basic area we tried sunday dimsum here today. The wait was pretty standard for a good dimsum place on a sunday about 20 minutes. I have to say it was all fairly substandard. Har gow was gooey. Siu mai was over cooked. The shrimp on tofu was probably my favorite. The next was a shrimp "wonton" kinda thing, it was actually perfectly cooked but it came with a side of mayo that was totally off...all lumpy and looked like it had been sitting out in the heat for the last few days. They came around with trays of food not carts which is fine except they came around with the exact same things for the 30mins we were there. Won't return any time soon.

Went for sunday brunch. I orderd the joes scramble, b/f had the bacon, sausage and egg brekkie and we shared a special waffle. The muffin that came first was OK, a bit dry. The special waffle was nice...a waffle with fresh strawberries and bannana...but $9.95 seems expensive to me for a waffle. My joes scramble was awful! I had a bite, gave my b/f a weird look and made him try a piece which made him give me a weird look..."it tastes like liver-not ground beef". Yup. It really did taste like liver, I sent it back and proceeded to eat 1/2 of b/f's meal...which was very nice. The coffee is really tasty. The service was very efficient , always had water and coffee. I saw a lot of salads going out that looked good so I will probably try the place for lunch at some point.

The truffled chicken Mac & cheese was good...though I didn't seen any chicken, Dave said he got a piece. Not much of a truffle flavour either. The pizza was OK..thin crust which i like but not crisp and was hard to handle. The chop salad was flavourful---probably my favorite. The onion straws were tasty but almot no onion...just nice crispy salty super thin strings of batter. The french onion soup was gawd awful...well for french onion soup. A very cute & TINY place. with a VERY ecletic menu . Everything sounds fresh and clean and from what we tried I would say that it's true. We had the sakai (green beans in a seasame miso dressing) & gilroy (bok choy in garlic). We actually only ordered the beans the waiter made a mistake but they both looked good so we said we'd keep them. We had the cavaillon (aparagus soup) which was a nice clean soup just a touch cream, it did need some salt & pepper to wake it up though. Then we went onto the mains: jogja (indoneasian noodles), koh samui (coconut curry) and while we ordered the Havana (cuban fried rice) we actually recieved the Avignon (beef stew w/gnocci) yeah not at all similar but again we said we would keep it instaed as it did look really good. All great items the curry had lotsa lemongrass-delicious. The beef stew was soooo tender with the pillows of gnocci. The indonesian noodles we perfectly balanced. Will be back for sure!

Dim Sum review: So with a name like this you expect good seafood...and that is definetly thier specialty.Excellent shrimp dumplings. The deep fried sea bass was excellent not greasy---seemed liked panko crust---slightly sweet and perfectly cooked. We tried a clam dish...lovely miso sauce but a bit too cold. The chinese broccoli was Perfectly cooked and even better the sauce was on the side so you can choose how much sauce you want. The siu mai---not good, same as the shanghai dumpling. Pork is NOT thier thing. We had a resling (wine) with our meal and it was a great compliment. The staff that sat us and closed out our check were super friendly and professional. My boyfriend actually met a close family friend as we were leaving and sent them 2 bottles of the same wine we had just had. We are already deciding a evening to come for dinner. Recommended!

Well maybe it is just the take out thats bad. I was really hoping this would be a great neighbourhood thai place. We ordered the pad thai, assorted apps, summer rolls, red curry and tom kha gai. The soup was tangy but thin and watery. The assorted apps were flavourless, the summer rolls were clean but overstuffed, tastless and falling apart. The pad thai was OK. It wasn't greasy but it too was lacking flavour. The red curry was flavourfull and helped balance the meal in favour of a neutral. Overall I can't recommend. I will try 1 more time in the restaurant and give it that 2nd chance.

I was very excited to try this place. I love pierogi and have made them with Ukrainian families in Canada. My Mum used to make the best cabbage rolls...and its been a long time since I've had either. After all the great reviews i assumed we'd be in for a real treat. It was a fairly huge dissapointment. We tried the assorted pierogi...they all tasted the same, flavourless and boring. The beet salad was not much better...seemed like canned with some marinated onions thrown in. The mushroom soup was tasty and rich but SOOOO salty...apparently the only seasoning they had. The dill pickle soup was the best part of the meal i believe; slightly sour and lightly creamy. We then shared a cabbage roll...which I was hoping to be the saviour ...wrong again. More flavourless meat , rice and cabbage. The Polish beer I had was delicious! Our server was sweet; but I won't be back anytime soon. The good news is that I am inspired to make my own pierogis and cabbage rolls now!

Monday night is "Bring your doggie to dinner" they provide a bowl of water & a bowl of treats for your pooch...AND THE FOOD IS TASTY! What's not to love? Even better is a quick drive OR bus trip from my house. I came on a monday for lunch with a friend. We shared the charcuterie plate, croque royale & eggs bennie. I wasn't wowed by anything but everything was above solid. Nice flavour balance, eggs cooked perfectly. Then i found out you could bring your dog on monday nights...and it happened to be Carter's birthday...so Dave & I went back Monday night.
We had the sampler apps (choose 3) beet salad, grilled tiger prawns & mussels and I had the trout and Dave had the Grilled Pork chops. The salad and mussels were excellent. The flavour of the prawns were lovely but they were a little overcooked. My trout was delicate and perfectly cooked. The chop tasted brined--perfectly done & flavourfull.

Torn between neutral and negative. Really not sure how there were so many positives. Had the assorted sashimi. Yellowtail was watery. Salmon was cut the wrong way so it was too chewy and ended up stringy. Tuna was just OK. Toro was wayyy too soft and poorly cut as well. The tai was also cut incorrectly and was way to chewy. We left close to 1/2 of it on the plate. All of the slices were probably double a regular portion...but thats not a good thing. Smaller is better with sashimi. Thinner cuts. The veggie tempura was also just OK, broth was very clean but lacking a bit of flavour. The tempura was too greasy. The rolls were probably the best part but they were mediocre. The place is cute, small relatively friendly service. The miso soup was good. I won't be back.

Fabulous. We were a party of 4 and I believe we had 90% of the menu. We had the crudo for 2 (x2) all crudo of course. Scallop on a chickpea puree & arugula oil...soooo lucious. The Fluke w/horseradish crčme fraiche, caviar, chives...fresh. clean, crunchy w/ a nice zip from horseradish. Spicy Yellowfin Tuna Cube w/ginger, soy, siracha...fresh but even w/those flavours it didn't have much flavor...same with the tombo tuna. Hawaiian Ono w/lemongrass, mint & enoki; mint & fish---who'd a thought..PERFECT.
Arctic Char w/horseradish, wasabi tobiko&dill --my absolute favorite, super fresh perfect crunch amazingly succulent...i wanted more. Seafood chowder--OMG! Perfectly cooked squid, mussels, shrimp, fish and more in a perfect creamy yet spicy blend. Lobster & san sabastien salads AWESOME-fresh, clean. I will be back! Highly recommend!

This place was in the last issue of he Wine Specator as a must try in Sonoma. It's really an upscale deli...you order at the counter and grab one of the dozen tables in the front or back. Also note that there are 2 tasting rooms inside with Bovolo a bonus if you want a quick drop. Bovolo has a very Swine heavy menu...so if you love the Pork you will probably love it. They make their own Pork Salumi, which we tried on the Butchers antipasti plate along with some marinated white beans, olives, roasted red peppers and cheese. The quality was very good but seemed to lack any real flavour. We had the coo-coo fries which is cheese & salumi wrapped and fried in bread dough. Unfortunetly it was a lot better on paper than it was in my mouth. Not enough cheese and only a small fleck of salumi. The spring pizza was just OK. Asparagus, pine nuts, spring onions but they crust was a bit too soft not crisp enough. There was a Pig heart sammie as the special of the day...I'd go back to try it

YUM YUM. They have great burgers and fries and sammies. Lotsa cold beer on tap. It's located in a strip mall and its always packed at lunch. Unless you sit at the bar you have to order at the counter and wait for your number to be called. I used to come here a couple times a month as i worked close by. mmmmm those fries. A must try if you are in the neighbourhood!

No truth in advertising here. It is not only not excellent but some of the worst chinese food I have had in a long time. We ordered delivery...it took just over an hour and everything except the soup came cold. The hot n sour soup was actually quite tasty...and that was by far the best part of the meal. We ordered pork buns---hard as rock. Egg fried rice came free...and it was probably the 2nd best thing we had, Greasy and fairly flavourless but not the worst of the lot. Joe's "special' beef--OMG AWFULL. greasy, rubbery, flavourless. Pork Chops...a repeat of the beef. Some sort of noodle dish---same. We actually threw out over 1/2 of the food we ordered...AWFUL

Well on our continuing quest to find all our local restaurants we had dinner here on Monday night. At 8pm there were 2 other tables of 2 there...only one of who was probably over 70. The "7" course meal costs between $14-20 depending on the entree. 1 of those courses is coffee. Salad, soup, a plate of pepperoncini, sliced pickles, mini corn, and a slice of bologna---interesting, pasta bolognese---so they claimed--my entree "boneless" chicken stuffed with proscuitto & cheese, coffee and ice cream. Salad was a few pieces of iceburg lettuce mix topped with a flavourless dressing, soup was mushy and tasteless, my entree was not bad but it was not boneless. The owner waited on us and he was very sweet, he has owned the place for 25 years. I definetly think the place needs to be updated and the food improved. I doubt we will be back which is sad as I wish them the best.

Pluses: Good Tequila selection!
Negatives: Food. There were 5 of us and we just shared some apps and they were all just...not good. Nachos were tiny and hardly any toppings. Queso tasted like it came out of a huge can 'o' cheese. I can make better with velveta and ro-tel tomatoes. Chips were OK....salsa while spicy din't have much flavour and was really really thin. And all the food came out before the drinks did...so i assume all the food was just hanging out waiting for us to show up. Won't return

Stopped in today walking back home from Bay to Breakers. Its a teenee tiny spot with 3 small tables. Very clean and cute and the owners are super friendly. As the previous reviews mention all the dogs/sausages are organic non-gmo AND STILL tasty! I had the chicken/turkey with red & green jalapenos, it was nice and toothsome as was the bun. They have several varieties of organic mustard as well as the standard relish, onions, saurkraut and ketchup (all organic as well) . I will go back in a heartbeat. I hope they do well! I love that they are trying to the right thing as a business. Using re-cycled paper items. composting, giving back to the community...a real role model for small business.

I should have ordered something else...i knew when i ordered it! I will go back and try something else. Its a tiny space with a couple tables outside. Service was very friendly and the menu looks good even if the wine list is kinda so so.

Ok JOE...you MUST change your name before you get sued! Maybe Joe's nearly edible food? I see why you hAVE such high quality take out menus...thats where you spend ALL your money...so the quality of ALL ingredients sucks! So on our quest for the best chinese food in the neighbourhood we have been trying all the ones in a 5 mile radius or so. So tonight was Joes night. Tried the salt & pepper pork chops-grissley and greasy. Joes special beef---If that is a house specialty how have you managed to stay in business! Gelatinous and greasy. steamed pork buns...hard as a rock. Rice noodle dish---not awful but no flavour. Egg fried rice---greasy and bland. Chinese broccoli w/oyster sauce---I like a dente but these didn't spend more than 30 secs in boiling water and the sauce was watery. The good news was the hot and sour soup...best I've had in quite a while...but not enough to make the meal even remotely decent. AVOID!

I was in the neighbourhood the other day and had just read that chez nous was closing down...so i had to try it before its gone. Very tiny spot, tables kinda on top of each other and i was there at lunch and it was really loud. My server seemed completely indifferent and uninterested....but i knew going in with the change of hands i might get an uneven experience. They bring you a round "epi" kinda loaf of bread to start...very nice. I had the daily soup...she said it was creamy corn but it tasted more like cream of corn meal...very gritty and was topped with parmesean. Nice flavour though. I had the lamb chops as a "main" 2 very tiny chops for $12. The flavour of the actual meat was good but they were rather grissle laden...so kinda dissapointing. It came with a lavander salt which was very nice. I had a glass of strawberry sangria and to my surprize it was good...thought it might be too sweet but the strawberry was just that some slices of strawberry...but watch out for the clove the

I did happen to find myself here on a Friday...and had a $2 corona and 2 fish tacos...one grilled, one deep fried. I have to say they were pretty darn tasty. Very fresh tasting and not greasy at all. Most everyone else was just drinking so i didnt see how other items looked. I would go back if i was around...wouldn't go out of my way though. Good to note: you order with the cashier and pick up in the kitchen window. I didn't realize that. I sat at the bar for about 5 mins...the cashier directly in front of me and she never mentioned that---i thought she was the bartender. So i think the service was fairly awful...and i never did get the chips that i ordered.
For food i would give it a positive...but because the service was so bad the overall experience i have to give it a neutral

Been here a couple times and was OK....nothing to write home about...except maybe the bread---USUALLY. We popped by here a couple days ago and was totoally dissapointed...come on guys---LEARN HOW TO USE SEASONING! It's like they have given up. Had the app of grilled scallops, shrimp and calamari in parsley sauce. The parsley sauce has NO flavour, the seafood was PERFECTLY cooked...nicely seared but absolutely NO FLAVOUR. They we shared the proscuitto pizza w/argula and pecorino. The thin crust was not even warm...completely undercooked. The pecorino was hard as a bone, the proscuitto was decent the saving grace was the truffle oil on top...but even that could only do so much. The lasagna same problem...no flavour and not even very warm. The worst...all the bread was dried up :0( My last trip here for sure.

Oh my oh my...where do i start. SO it was about 215 on Sunday. We were in the neighbourhood and knew about ABC...supposedly in the top 5 dim sum places in the pennisula...OK if you say so Mr. Bauer. There was a small line but as we were only 2 people we got seated right away..SWEET! But I guess we were put in the leper colony section. We did get our tea straight away. But 10 minutes into it all the carts were out in full force but avoiding our isle all together. We finally got thier version of bbq pork buns...more in a dried bread not bun. A few minutes later my b/f asks for a refill on his water and the guy gives him the "talk to the hand" and didn't return. We finally flagged down someone to place an order the broccoli came right out and was just OK. We gave up after about 15 minutes and put the credit card out just as the other few items we ordered showed up...wish they hadn't. Har Gow and shrimp rice noodles...i think the shrimp was off. SO BAD we left a 30 cent tip. UNHEARD OF.

THE WINE:Popped in here tonight for a few tastes of wine and some snacks. Thier wine list is pretty large...a lot of Greek wines;owners are greek. Spanish , Italian...then some others thrown in for good measure---Austrian, American etc. You can get several by the taste, glass or bottle. Tried a Greek white 2 Spanish Reds and 2 CA Reds...nothing fabulous but decent.
THE FOOD: They have a daily soup & daily entree...no other entrees. We had an eggplant panini, feta & olives and a meat & cheese platter. The feta & olives were tasty. The panini was decent, the meat on the platter was very good quality, cheese was decent. They have a couple salads and a couple apps---hummus, pita. pizzetta. This isn't so much a wine bar that we expect in SF. More of a neighbourhood "coffee shop" style wine bar. Friendly staff. Interior is quirky, kinda felt unfinished, could be a warmer vibe to it.
OVERALL: it's a cute place. don't expect "hidden vine" here but its a nice neighbourhood spot

Got in late last night after spending the weekend winetasting in Paso Robles and wanted to keep the party going...Chou Chou didn't let us down. We had the onion soup, frissee salad & proscuitto tart to share and the lamb shank and mussells as our mains. Onion soup and salad were solid, great flavours...what you would expect of a local bistro. The tart was OK,a bit soggy, nice flavours but it just didn't pull together. The lamb shank was HUGE and perfectly cooked on a bed of polenta & a few brussel sprouts. It wasn't nicely seared but we'll let it go because the flavours were great...perfect amount of salt and seasonings. The mussels were also wonderful and more than plentiful (I couldn't finish them!) The broth was white wine, garlic, parsley & cream--YUM, there was a lot of bread being dipped. The pomme frites were not too good; soggy and small little pieces. I think it was because we were the LAST people being served...so I hope for better next time. Andy, our waiter, was AWESOME.

we went here on a thursday night at 9pm...no trouble getting in. 3 of us shared the trio of ceviche. The tuna and the squid ink were great but the traditional was WAY TOO citrusy...it overpowered the fish. The fried mixed seafood app was good...not greasy perfectly cooked ,but not a lot of flavour. The dungeness crab app was not very good...you couldn't taste the crab at all through the potato...it didn't taste bad...but the crab should be the focus. The "off the menu" steak was excellent...perfectly cooked & nice flavour. Unfortunetly they put the fries on the bottom so they are all soggy and inedible. The sangria was perfect, great flavour and not too sweet. Service was great! We will be back. Overall great experience.

We just had delivery from here tonight, its less than a mile from the house. I wasn't sure what to think of "California" chinese...but basically its fresher, No MSG and a lot less oil that the usual fare. We had hot & sour soup (nice heat & flavour, but not that sourish taste i love so). The chicken & snow peas---very nice and light with lots of fresh perfectly cooked veggies...still slightly crunchy. The fried rice was EXCELLENT. I never eat fried rice due to the huge amount of oil in it...well this was again perfectly done, lots of fresh veggies & a few large very tasty shrimp. The seasame beef was nice and crunchy with a nice sweetness without that sickly sweet taste & it came on a bed of cooked spinach---yummy for me! This is chinese I could eat once a week and not feel bad about it. We will be ordering from them again...soon :0)

not sure which is more wierd...me actually eating here...or me reviewing it? For some reason 2 weeks ago whie still moving in to our new home we were on a "chain" food kick. We had chilis the afternoon before and then Olive Garden. So i used to eat at the "OG" :0) lol in Colorado Springs about once a month-for lunch. All you can eat soup, salad and breadsticks for like $5...pretty decent. So scroll ahead 6 years...ok im a bit of a food snob now. I admit it. Our waiter was great. When the bread sticks came he actually said they were the best part of the meal...he was actually almost right. I liked the salad better...but the food was AWFUL. My b/f had the "taste of italy" OMG---who would EVER want to go there if that was true! I've already erased the memory...i have no idea what i had. We shared the sampler app...medium awful. Pleasantly surprized. Had delivery from here tonight... it was quick delivery...about 30minutes. We had the hot & sour soup, mongolian beef, hot and spicy tofu, salt & pepper wings and chicken and green beans. The soup was pretty decent...still not quite as much "sour" tang to it...and not spicy enough...but decent flavour s. The beef & tofu were both really flavourfull with a heat that sneaks up on you. Salt & pepper wings were actually really tender...and even with the delivery they wern't all soggy...like the oft can be. The chicken & beans...just OK....clean and good veg but just a bit boring. We also got a free chicken fried rice which I found to be dry and flavourless. None of the items were very greasy either....a huge plus. I look forward to many more deliveries from them.

Ordered some pies on moving day from here as its in the neighbourhood. Tried the Di Bufala's NY style and the cornmeal pepperoni as well as a greek salad. The NY style was a standard crust...loaded down with lots of fresh toppings...but the crust was average and the flavours just didn't combined to make any sort of real flavour sensation. The cornmeal crust was deep dish and had a lovely flavour & texture but again the pepperoni and cheese combo just didn't have enough flavour. The greek salad was a lot of lettuce and not much else. I will try it again...and actually I want to try the brazilian dishes as well.

The first time had the pho tai ...the broth was flavourful and it was loaded with noodles and a large portion of meat. My bf had the combo pho and the broth was perfect...I'll have to start ordering that. The 2nd time i strayed from the usual and had the chicken curry vermecelli with coconut milk. It had potential but it just wasn't spicy enough and was way too oily to manage...luckily we had ordered a pork sandwich to share and my bf ordered his usual and was generous enough to share with me. We had delivery from here last night for dinner. Positives: fast delivery, good selection of not just the standard chinese take out foods and the food is not all greasy. Neutrals: It's pricey. $9 for a medium hot & sour soup! Our total came to $51. Though the food was not oily...it was also pretty flavourless...it could definetly use some seasoning & spice.
Had the hot & sour soup that was slightly hot (- black peppery) but not sour at all and the chicken & shrimp that the menu claimed were in there no where to be found. The spicy dry fried chicken had zero spice to it and the sweet garlic pepper sauce was neither sweet nor garlicky. The sweet & sour pork was the same...no flavour to the sauce....though the pork was cooked nicely as was the chicken in the previous item we tried. Then there was the combo chow mein... weird flavour to it...i think it was from the calamari in it? Chow mein & calamari...not a good call. It was suppose to come with shrimp...guess they were running low.

We just moved to the neighbourhood so we had to give 'em a try. We only live 2 blocks away...but even at that I think take out effects the taste. We shared a tower burger and tuna melt with fries and onion rings. The onion rings were tasty...nice flavour without being toooo greasy---for Onion rings that is :0) Fries were decent. Burger was average...nothing to write home about...but if we crave a burger and don't want to go too far...we would return...in fact i know we will. Tuna melt was below average. No flavour in the tuna and the rye bread---which I love---tasted like it was slathered in some fake butter flavoured oil to be "melted" in---not good...too bad...i LOVE a good tuna melt. ”

This is an old school diner located in my soon to be new 'hood. It's open for breakfast & lunch with all the standard diner food. Omlettes, waffles pancakes and sammies , specials and such for lunch. I had the california omlette which comes with some seriously tasty and seriously greasy potatoes. The omlette was huge and flavourful...but not light and fluffy...it too was greasy. I think this would be a great for that greasy hangover meal. Big portions and light on the pocket book.

I had to go down to Redwood City this afternoon around lunchtime and didnt have time to stop for a bite so we stopped at the Ben Frank's drive thru. Its like a time warp. They have hot dogs, chili cheese dogs, corn dogs, and a few non-hot dog items :0) Had the chili-cheese dog, fries and shared a corn dog. The hot dog was nice and toothsome...and had the nice snap to it when you bit into it. The chili was flavourful enough but nothing too special. The cheese was perfectly melted ...so watch out for the cheese "strings"! I managed not to spill any on me so they arn't super messy...cuz I always spill food over me. The large fries I shared were a pretty huge portion and nice and crispy and well salted. The corn dog tasted JUST like a corn dog. I would go back again if i was in the area and needed a quick meal or snack.

I've walk by here almost every day and always chuckle to myself that the PICKWICK is a Thai restaurant...not exactly what you would expect. I finally gave in and decided to try it. I had the Hot & SOur Chicken Soup w/coconut milk....its my favorite---but not here. It had almost no chicken, it had big pieces of lemongrass and the broth was thin with not very much hot or sour flavours. I guess the upside is that the prices there are very reasonable...but there is a reason there is never anyone in there when I walk by. Dam...that pesky promotersf beat me to the review :0) But thats ok...this is my 400th...so I'm still on his tail. We had a lovely dining experience even if a couple of the items fell a bit short. The space is warm and whimsical and the service was great. MY FAVS: bacon & egg raviolo...wonderful combination. The marrow bones---how can they not be good really. THE GOOD: lamb cheeks on polenta, calamari (tender...but not crispy enough) duck liver pate and the onion soup (spicy hot but not flavourful). And then in the "WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING" catagory chicken liver dumplings.
Overall we had a good time. We ordered 2 bottles of wine from the "50 under $50" group and they were very enjoyable. Worth a visit.

I've had 2 meals here...to go. Fried chicken, ribs and oxtails. All were just OK...but a little bland. The mac & cheese is pretty decent. Corn, corn bread and sweet potato were all also just OK. I guess the upside is that its very affordable. I will probably eat here again but i wish it was just a bit better

We are moving to the neighbourhood so I was happy to see a bakery there. Unfortunetly on 2 different visits I can't say that anything was very good. Infact everything was flavourless and bland. tried a macaroon, seasame cookie, plain shortbread cookie, asiago cheese bread and a tuna sandwich...so a pretty good cross section of things. ANd while none of them were straight out bad nothing warrants going back for. Too bad for me :0(

i saw a sandwich board as i was walking by from La taqueria saying NOW OPEN...MISSION PIE. I immediatley had to go have a look. I will be honest....thought it was a pizza place...but it was not...it IS a cute little (and i do mean LITTLE) coffee shop with lotsa homemade pies. We ordered a piece of the bannanas and cream. It was lovely, not too sweet, light and flaky crust. I look forward to giving it another try! Stop by and try it !

It's kinda funny reading the reviews...the reason i was in the neigbourhood was to see the doctor...there are a lot around the neighbourhood. ANyway...it is what it is. And I'm sure it hasn't charged since opening...many many years ago. Its clean, efficient and the food is standard basic diner food. You get a lot of food and its not too expensive.
I wouldnt go out of my way to go back---and havn't---but no complaints overall.

Tried the salmon crepe here. It was OK...you get alot of food for your money and good service...but the crepe was pretty flavourless. I have eatten at the one at lower haight and had an omlette which was better. I will come back...i am ordering the bennie next time :0) Worth a visit.

I stopped in for breakfast one morning while signing up for classes at city college. I had a cheese and mushroom omlette and some coffee. The coffee was good, the omlette...wasnt awful...it was kinda oily and rather overcooked and flavourless. I guess the good thing is that it was inexpensive. They also have free internet. I would recommend stopping in for a coffee...not food.

Had lunch here today with a friend. Had the Upper Haight eggwhite omlette, subbed the potatoes for side salad and ordered a side of hollandaise on the side. I wanted to order the bennie...a fav of mine...but didnt want to be dissapointed. The hollandaise was awesome then i saw a bennie being delivered next to me...it looked AWESOME. I will have to have it next time. In the mean time the omlette was tasty and filling. Lots of textures, good size...egg whites don't give a tonne of flavour but they did a great job...I will be back. Good service. You order at the counter and they deliver

Popped in her tonight (Sunday) a new wine bar on 3rd st. Well they've been open since Aug...but its new to me. They have a special tasting every sunday at 430pm....changes weekly. Nice selection, nice ambience, great staff in a well needed area. Weekends they just have cheese plate but during the week they have some light apps and flatbread pizzas as well---i look forward to going back and trying them. I recommend Yield. Its just a few doors down from the DogPatch Bar for those that know where that is ;0) and it IS COMPLETELY not the dogpatch :0). I think this is going to be one of my new favs! Easy parking. Cute little cafe that also serves breakfast all day. A pretty basic menu with some upscale twists. Reasonably priced. I will go back to try it again when i get back over there.

I really wanted to like this place because it looks like a "mum & pop" shop (or atleast mum:0), its got an old school feel AND they serve breakie all day---always a good thing. I order the Oscar omlette (bacon, avo, mush, cheese, sour cream and topped with salsa---how can ya go wrong....right!?! It was awful :0(
Rubbery eggs, canned mushrooms, sour cream was loaded inside and seemed to cool off all the ingredients and the salsa on top tasted like a thin, tinny tomato sauce. Don't EVEN get me started on the hashbrowns! ---atleast thats what i think they were.
UPSIDE...service was very efficient.

I have walked by here dozens of times and finally decided to pop in for a quick snack. What i didnt realize is that they serve dim sum all day...coming around with the carts. I tried the shrimp dumpling and the crabmeat dumpling. The filling in both were very fresh and flavourful. Unfortunetly the items were cold and the wrappers a bit too thick (probably just because they were cold). I love that you can get dim sum anytime but i think made to order would be better during the slower times. There were only about 8 people in there at 1pm in the afternoon. The place is clean & effecient. The tea was lovely. It is more expensive than the standard dim sum spot...but think its probably worth it. I am going to have to re-try it and bring friends...dim sum is tough alone :0)

I was really looking forward to trying Cafe Claude, but have to say it dissapointed. The space is charming and the staff were fabulous but the food was lacking. We had the endive salad---which was delicious...perfectly balanced flavours. The beet salad was just OK. The escargot were overcooked and underseasoned so much so I left most of them. The steak tartar was also just OK, however they did prepare it tableside and it was fresh. We added salt, pepper and more mustard and it helped a bit and the serving size was huge. The coq a vin was flavourful but lacking presentation. Maybe I'll try it another time for lunch? It is a cute spot.

I was lucky enough to win a dinner through SFSurvey...and how lucky i was! I am not one to give a great review just 'cuz we got a free dinner. Luckily this place was lovely. Started with the baby fall salad, scallops, foie gras & chowder. The veggies in the salad were PERFECTLY cooked, i kinda felt there should have been some sea salt on the side because i feel it would have really made the salad POP...same with the chowder. THe scallops were perfectly cooked but i crunched into shell or gravel several times. The gras was YUM! For mains we had the kobe steak and the salmon off the grill w/brussells & broccolini. Steak was very tasty & perfect med-rare slices. Salmon was nice & seared outside and med-rare inside-GREAT JOB. brussels were a bit bitter and not as sweet as they should be, broccolini was PERFECT. Jacob , our waiter, was charming, helpful and sweet...only his 2nd day! GREAT JOB. Kyle the f&b manger came by twice to make sure all was well. LOVED IT! MUST TRY!

un remarkable. We had the mezza sampler to start. It was OK. I had the seabass and my bf had the chicken. Neither of them were bad but neither of them had any flavour and the chicken was a bit dry. THe huckleberry cake was the same...non-descript and blah. A very BEIGE meal.

The service was FABULOUS! 10 out of 10. They also gave us a couple free snacks...a spicy tuna thingy and potato tempura. The tempura was nice the tuna thingy not so much...it had a sauce overtop that tasted ike mustard & ketchup---which is not nice for sushi. The miso was very nice as was the compimentary tea. Unfortunetly thats when things didn't go so well. Had the sashimi app (large) and it had a lot on it and it LOOKED fabulous, but it wasn't very good. The salmon was nice and thats about it...i left 6 pieces on the plate...that NEVER happens. The toro---which you can NEVER go wrong with---was VERY WRONG. We could see as it was delivered that they had sliced it wrong way and there was "grissle" and as i bit into it...i just kept chewing and spit it into my napkin...no buttery goodness here. The bang bang roll was OK. The mochi for dessert was nice. Did I say the service was perfect? it really was thats why i feel bad about a neutral review.

YOWZA....they are NOT KIDDIN about the size of the sammies. I can usually manage what most people consider a large sammie...but no way...these are HUGE. I had the club on dutch crunch and my b/f had the "Wild Turkey" ---it has cranberry. Both fabulous and we ended up taking a whole sammie home...then had to disect it to eat it as 1/2 th e bread gets super soggy cuz of all the yumminess they add to it. Highly recommend and highly recommend sharing. A full meal for under $7? crazy.. i love it

I've been wanting to come here for a while as I love the fact it is part of the City College culinary program. The space is kitty corner to the metreon ...so great people watching. No cocktails or wine. The food it self was mediocre unfortunetly. I had the steak salad...3 small pieces of flank steak on some overly oiled up arugula. My brother had the salmon club. It sounded good. but was a bit too undercooked and the bread was kinda dry. We had the calamri to start and it was wayyyy too greasy and flavourless. The aolia it came with was very nice however. Our waiter was attempting to be friendly but he stood many feet away from the table any time he came by to talk to us..he was VERY shy. There is unlimted bread (several types) and they do a good job of coming by frequently. As it is a training facility I would think they have you fill out a questionarie upon completing your meal. I highly recommend they do so in fact. And PLEASE get rid of that flatware! its awful!

But lets face it I never go for chinese food and expect friendly service. We sampled pretty much everything as usual ...at least 12 or more items and everything was tasty. THe chinese burito was a nice twist. Would go back again...maybe slightly earlier but still late enough to avoid the nightmare crowds I've heard about

Just had dim sum here today...yum yum :0) Big Place , clean with an open kitchen. Quick & effiecent service. The dim sum was great. Had the usual har gaw, sui mai, then spinach and shrimp dumpling, taro & shrimp ball, bbq pork bun, shrimp won ton soup (which was my least favorite...not bad but a bit too fishy tasting). Chinese broccoli was super fresh it not just a bit undercooked...though thats always better than being over cooked. Hmm...there were another couple items in there as well but I can't recall...we ate A LOT!. It is up there with my favorite dim sum places now...and price point was about mid range for dim sum. So tried the beef noodle soup and the imperial rolls. Can't say much about either. Rolls were super greasy and not cooked through. The Pho was mediocre. Wow....I can't believe this hasn't been reviewed yet. I have to say I am MORE than happy to do the honours. There were 5 of us and we all sampled each others...and all i can say is WOW. I had the croque madame...and everyone voted it the the best...and it was amazing...the PERFECT egg ontop on the PERFECT sand...amazing yet simple. The special of liver with bacon was unlike any liver i have had before...awesome....as was the steak frites that was topped with finely chopped and caramalized onions---perfectly done with perfect frites. The lamb dish was just OK compared to the others. The foie was...wowza...it comes in a 5oz mason jar with toasted baguette...buttery wonderful, heartstopping goodness. Thank god there was 5 of us...cuz I wouldn't have left a drop---and we didnt. The service was spectacular. The atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming. I LOVED it! Well I really wasn't expecting much...but i got even less. Sampled a variety of items : Meditterean Salad (large and reasonably priced...but way to greasy and flavourless), Bagda Cauda (sorry about spelling) was OK. The seafood pasta and chicken picatta were both mediocre but decent portions. The sonoma pizza ($20 for a small) was one of the worst I have ever had. Crust was mushy, pizza was luke warm and overkill on all the toppings---it was a very confused pizza flavour wise. I was hoping atleast for friendly service...but even that was mediocre. I tried this place a couple times and so far its just OK. The hot & sour soup is VERY good. Tried some generals chicken which everyone said was thier thing. It tasted more like orange chicken, no spice and a bit too sweet. The potstickers were also a little dissapointing---maybe just cuz there were a bit cold cuz we got delivery. Tuna, hamachi, tako, salmon and white tuna. Salmon was very succulent, tuna and hamachi were good, tako nice and crunchy...the white tuna was AWFUL. Over all the food was pretty good. Chicken was crispy outside and succulent inside without being too greasy. Biscuits were OK, cloeslaw was tooooo mayonaisey (is that a word ?:0) They have all the standard side dishes and everything is very resonably priced. If you are in the mood for fried chicken give it a try. Pretty tight quarters inside so I reccomend taking it to go.

yum Yum YUM. I'm in love....damn them for being so far from me. I didn't interact with the staff much but I never got the rude thing. Its a cute little spot. The pizzas are AWESOME. We had the egg & pancetta & watercress AND the spinach, sage & brown butter pizza---oh my god that was good. The crusts are perfectly thin. I'd go back in a heart beat!

We have been wanting to try clementine and thier bistro across the street for a while. Well we ended up there today and just bistro clement was open. We were planning on snacking t a few different places so we chose to share the beet salad and the cassoulet. WOW...what a HUGE dissapointment!. The beet salad was flavourless and it came with a goat cheese croquette...I can't even explain how awful it was. The cassoulet was bland and the meat was WAY overcooked....we left about 3/4 of it on the plate. The wine ist is non-existant.
UPSIDE: Patio was cute and we were able to bring our puppy back there, the service was not bad.

This is a cute little spot on Piedmont with a nice back patio. It kinda reminds me of Primo Patio Cafe in the South Beach area, funky and colourful. I had the special of blackened Mahi and my friend had the chicken caeser salad, which had a huge portion of chicken on it. The portion of Mahi was nice but it was overcooked. the only thing worse that overcooked fish is blackened overcooked fish. The complimentary cornbread with Jalepeno would have been fabulous if it wasn't sooo dry. I probably wouldn't go back on purpose...but I am a sucker for a patio on a nice day. Ohh...the sangria was nice ;0)

It's pretty average Indian food. A lot of the apps are around the $3.50 range which I don't think is bad...and the couple I have sampled have been tasty enough. This is a cute spot....serving until 12pm. The food was all solid and plenty of it...just wish they knew how to add flavour...everything was kinda bland. Started with the pork sausage stuffed calamari tubes in a tomato sauce. THe tomato sauce was like tomato soup but with less flavour. It had potential cuz the calmari was perfectly but NO flavour even with the sausage. We also had the crab won tons...6 of them in the order. Lotsa crab but again lacking flavour and the wrappers were a bit too soft. Had te Hanger steak and eggs and fish and chips. Hanger steak was med-rare and flavourless with deep fried (baked?) pototoes with a batter...kinda odd...but not awfull. The fish was overccoked and batter was hard and oliy. came w/ salt and vinegar "chips" which were neither salty or vinegary and not very chippy. Cheese plate for dessert was OK, doughnuts were WONDERFUL and PLEntiful! They almost made up for the whole dinner. Prices are resonable , service was good.

This was my first date with my boyfriend (promotersf) . It must have been pretty good...3 years later...here we are :0) We had shrimp, oysters, more seafood and more fish....everything was excellent. We were there for lunch, with lotsa bubbly and apps. THe atmosphere was very posh. The service was really good.It is DEFINETLY not an inexpencive stop...but I totally enjoyed it. Worth the splurge at least once. The chef has changed (atleat once) since then...but I'm sure there standard is pretty high.

Had dinner last night with my girls :0) Right after getting some pedicures at the Nail Store---also a great spot!
Anyway....cute local spot with yummy food. All thier pastas are homemade. We had the antipasti...not a traditional one by any means . Had 3 types of meat, some olives, sauteed squash (thats a bit odd---though a fine addition) phyllo---stuffed with something---not sure, didnt much care for it. and risotto cakes which were rather tasty. I had the pizza of the day which was pancetta, asparagus, creamy potatos and truffle oil. THe crust was excellent---rolled in corn meal i think and the flavours were great together. My friends had the gnocci (YUMMY, WITH A slighly spicy garlic and tomato based sauce and the spaghetti with a meat sauce. Mains averaged around $14. The 500ml of house wine was $10. Overall a cute not too expensive spot, with a lot of homemade pastas. Worth a shot if you are in the neighbourhood.

YUM, FABULOUS, YUM.
The restaurant is located in Forestville..close to Guernesville in Sonoma. It recieved 3 stars(maybe 3.5) FROM THE CHRONICLE...AND RIGHTLY SO---not that i always agree...but i do this time. Had a seared scallop on rissoto...delicious and foie gros app...perfectly prepared and presented. For main had the lamb shank and damn...my mind went blank..have to fill this in...it was awesome though.
Dessert was the cheese plate (mine) and the fennel panna cotta...fabulous taste, the fennel was subtle and very refreshing. Cheese plate had 4 selections all quite lovely. Staff was EXCELLENT, ATMOSPHERE IS COZY AND WARM. Highly recommend

The others with me had the grilled brie crossiant---it looked AWESOME...except the tomatoes added to it...they looked flavourless and mushy. Had the zucchini Chips which were simply deep fried really thin cut zucchini--very nice. The spinach and asparagus soup with a splash oif truffle oil was AWESOME...perfect balance of flavours. The artichoke and pancetta pizza was equally as wonderful, super thin crust--LOVED IT. The beet salad was OK...feta cheese was not tangy enough. The mahi mahi was lovely-perfectly cooked. The side of polenta was nice...nothing amazing but solid. Our server was super friendly and accomidating. The wine list by the glass was kinda small but solid. Saw a write up in San Francisco magazine and thought it sounded yummy so gave it a try tonight. I'll be honest and say I havn't eaten a ton of korean food , mainly bbq...which is too over priced in my humble opinion...ANYWAY. The spicy tofu soup was yummy, I didn t think it was very spicy...but sweat was rolling off my boyfriends brow so it might have been :0) The spicy pork was decent, again not overly spicy...i thought more sweet than spicy. The seafood Bi-Bim-Bop was BLAH. Flavourless and bland, highly dissapointing. The Kimchi was lovely as were all the sides. The tofu salad was ...interesting? lettuce, tofu a truly lovely dressing and corn? ...not sure where that fits in.
Overall it wasn't bad...but not somewhere I'd run back to right away. Reasonably priced $44 for all our items.

I popped in here today while i was out and about in the misson. Its a relatively new spot...open about 3 months. It calls itself Fine Chinsese Dim Sum & Dinner. They have most the standard chinese dishes as well as a good selection of dim sum. I tired the pork siu mai , shrimp dumplings and stuffed eggplant. They were all solid dim sum items. Nothing outstanding but all tasty and reasonably priced ($2.50 siu mai, $3.25 shrimp dumpling (4 each) and $3.95 stuffed eggplant (3). Eggplant was a bit greasy...but thats pretty standard of all the ones I've ever tried. Service was very attentive and actually pretty friendly. We had to take puppy to the vet (pets unlimited) and afterwards were hungry for some brunch---it was right next door and they had some tables outside. The service was great, looks like a cozy little spot. I had a 3 egg omlette w/ ham & goat cheese and came with potatoes and salad for $10. The salad and dressing were light and lovely, the potatoes were perfectly cooked, crispy---but unfortunetly luke warm. The omlette was ridiculously salty , greasy and totally "un"fluffy. I was sadly dissapointed

Watched the game here the other night...huge, fun crowd. Service was good especially considering how busy it was. The food was mediocre AT BEST...probably actually slightly below mediocre...especially considering the price tag attached. Combo platter of wings $18 Tereyaki wings were tooo sweet, the buffalo wings were decent but not very spicy at all. The calamari was boring , i could have bought the bag of calamari rings and cooked them at home much better. The fries were cold and not cooked enough. This is another great little hole in the wall vietnamese food spot. Just next to Vietnam restaurant (which i actually like a little better). Geeez...I can't remember what i had here--besides the Pho --of course. I know we enjoyed it . Another spot that is open late---always a bonus.

I ate here before I moved to San Francisco and stumbled upon this place. The food was solid, plentiful and very affordable. Its a family run place and the owner took a couple quick breaks from making sure everything was running well and clientelle was happy to sing a couple songs---fabulous environment . It took me a while to figure out where it was again as its been a few years(3) , now that i have i will be back soon

After the awful experience at Y Ben House we came here hoping to get a decent dim sum experience. It was a better feel...but the service was poor we never got the coke, soy or chili sauce we asked for. There were 2 carts going around mainly just a few trays here and there...and slowly. Siu Mai was OK. We waited and waited but not much ese came around. We ended up ordering 1 more item some flavourless shrimp deep fried thing. The Tea wasn't even good. Y ben House and Meriwa are the 2 worst dim sum spots I;ve tried in San Francisco. HIGHLY UNRECOMENDED

Ok...so I am NOT an unadventerous eater by ANY means. The whole reason I got my Hep a&b shots before I went to China was so I could eat crazy stuff----which i did. This place is AWFUL. Standard wait on a sunday. Got seated at a RIDICULOUSLY dirty table that we asked them to wipe down a couple more times---and it was still scary. As I was waiting for the first cleaning I was literally sticking to the floor it was sooooooooo dirty. A chinese couple sat down next to us and were TOTALLY prepared. They brought thier own plastic forks , teacups and hand sanitizer & wet naps to wipe the table---obviously been here before!
We had a siu mai (gooey and not a good taste at all) and the shrimp dumpling which was actually pretty good.
The place was PACKED ...a few hundred people...so the food may be good...if you come prepared. I definetly won't be back as the 2 items we tasted were not that great and there are too many other great spots to go through the cleanliness issue

Just tried this place after reading a review in the chronicle last week. We started with the combo plate (hummus-good-; baba ghanouj-good-; tabouli-OK- haydari(pureed feta, yougurt, garlic, dried mint, olive oil)yumyum!; Piyaz (marinated white beans)-OK-beans a bit undercooked;Dolma -good-; eggplant salad-yummy. The pita bread that came with this platter was very good, warm, slightly chewy--that nice toothsome texture. At $7.95 it was a great deal---plenty to share!
Also ordered the Combo meat kebab. THe lamb was lame, dry and just not pleasant. the kofte on the other hand AMAZING! Great flavours and cooked to tender...might order a whole meal of that next time. The chicken had some good flavour but was overcooked. We also odered the Combo gyro wrap, but as you can imagine we were stuffed and had them wrap the wrap togo (i'll let you know how it is when I eat it tommorow :0)...as well as the baklava.
The service was great, very nice people.Atmosphere was very basic. Have about 6 tab

Positives: queso fundido w/mushrooms & chorizo yummy even if the chorizo was a bit scarce and greasy. THe corn tortillas-handmade- were the best I've ever had. It also came with 3 salsas --a mango salsa, salsa verde and a lovely spicy hot red sauce. We watched the guacamole get made-tableside- and it looked amazing. The sangria was very tasty as well, nice and well balanced and at $6 a pretty good deal.
Negatives:
Our bartender was the WORST i have ever seen. We waited about 5 minutes to get a menu from him. THen another 10 minutes to get him to take our order---even though he walked past us atleast 6 times. They were not busy on the floor and only about 6 people at the bar. I swear he was stoned he was moving so slow. 20 minutes after sitting down I finally got my sangria---but my b/f still didn't recieve his. I told him if the food came before his drink we were out of here, they made it by less than a minute. We came VERY close to never coming back.

This is one of those places I REALLY wanted to like. Upon arrival (christmas night at 930pm) i was happy...it was cozy and there was a piano player. Sat at the bar, service was great. We ordered the french onion soup $7---tasty, pretty decent beef stock and great cheese/bread quantity. THe lobster bisque---blah, rich but bland. THe calamari---blah, slighty cold, REALLY BLAND. Tried ordering the Chicken Jeruslem but they were completely out of chicken :(. Ordered the Halibut special---it was OK, nothing special at all and slightly over cooked. The New Zealand sparkling wine was nice, the chardonnay options were not good.
Overall I might stop in for a drink again---but thats it.

Ok...so I'm guessing this may be the same owner as Golden star ---directly across the street....who knows. ANYWAY...I have the same issue as I am with GoldenStar....on the fence between positive and neutral. The broth here was tasty...kinda nutmeggy ( probably not a word but appropriate none the less) but the beef I ordered rare was fully cooked and there was less of it and not quite as thinly sliced. If you could combined the 2 spots it would be perfect. Again I would return here I love my pho and since the broth truly makes it this is a pretty decent spot.

Yet another in the long line of chinese delivery spots that is mediocre at best. Pros: quick delivery, not too greasy, good sized portions CONS: Mongolian beef, rather bland, flavourless items (outside the mongolian beef which was just wrong), noodles were extra bland.

Can't say I'd recommend if you are in the market for good Pho or Imperial rolls. The broth for the pho was flavourless ,The other ingredients were good but without a good broth it falls short. I tried this spot maybe a year or more ago. Yes the food is fresh...and the burritos are big... but it was also tasteless. I popped in for happy hour here a few months ago. I believe they have a couple drink specials, but none of the real yummy drinks and they had a few FREE food items. The atmosphere is excellent, fun... but not super silly, kinda classy. Anyway I only sampled the free food bar but had a look at the menu...and it is a bit pricey for what it is. I would happily return for thier yummy well presented (and YES expensive) cocktails...I had a couple and they were ...mmmmmm....yum and yes they do pack a bit of a punch. I really liked the atmosphere here, a cozy very small place. The wine list while small is very creative, very well done. They had 3 flights available (bubbly-which included a brut rose from Michigan, minerally white and bold reds)as well as wines by the 1/2 glass as well. Tried the cincy ribs and crab FLUFFS :0) I like the sound of a crab fluff and luckily it lived up to the fluff name. It was delicate fluffs of crab lightly deep fried blue crab, no unneeded fillers. The ribs were falling off the bone tender but the sauce was too tangy, neither sweet nor spicy. I had the mushroom stuffed chicken breast with swiss chard, grits& gravy. The chicken was dry and the minced mushroom stuffing was rather awful. Grits were nice. My side of creamed spinach was totally uninspired and looked like spinach in milk sauce? I heavily salted everything to make it more palatable. Luckily my dining companion shared his LOVELY braised shortribs with yummy root veggies. I will be back to try again!

I saw this place while I was walking around Noe Valley and I had to run over and check it out. I immediatly thought about all the lovely savory pies i consumed in New Zealand and Australia. Unfortunetly these are not quite as luscious, no flaky pastry crust. They are, however, quite tasty and considerably healthier I'm sure. I tried the chicken, potato & veg. They seem to have about 10 (ish) savoury pies, several of which are vegetarian and vegan. They also had a few fruit pies and a delicious looking sweet potato pie that I think I may have to go back to try. There are about 3 tables and a small counter to eat at, or just grab it to go---especially considering thier slogan is "The hand held meal"

Had brunch here today , have been wanting to try this place for a while. Its a cute bistro, nice atmosphere (we sat out back). Had a kir royale and crab benedict (w/o the muffin?) served with a side of thier roasted potatos.I had to ask for salt and pepper to help the flavourof the dish and even then it was still pretty bland. The eggs were poached perfectly...but the crab cakes were not crabby enough, too much bread filler. The roasted potatoes could have sooo delicious...if they had been caramalized a bit more...they were pretty dry.
So all in all it was just OK...especially when you factor in the price.

With a name like Gyro King, i think I might have been best off getting a gyro---but alas--I did not. The greek salad was nice (feta was FABULOUS)...but it was no gyro and as I saw all the lovely gyros coming out I wished I had ordered one. I will go back and try one. the negatives:
hada late lunch here today and even with the place 1/2 full it was crazy loud. I see what everyone was saying about being crammed in here---not done in a cozy way. It's not nearly as cozy as it was.
the positives:
It definetly has a new feel to it...upbeat and more vibrant (thought i think i prefered the other way). The bar is about 3 or 4 times larger---nice for those of us that like to dine a lone at the bar. Service was very friendly.
We sampled a few items: fried green beans---a bit too greasy ---but not overcooked. The cocomole tacos were surprizingly flavourful. They were 5 tortillla chips with a mole sauce &small dab of guac on top, i dont generally care too much for mole but the flavour was great. The fried cod sandwich was good. The fish itself was tasty, served on foccia...not a tonne of flavour toverall. The mushroom pizza with onion and gorgonzolo was tasty , nice balance of flavours on a thin crust that is neither too crispy or chewy. Have to give it a pos

Very interesting. ANYWHO..the food was OK. The chinese broccoli was good ...but for $6??? I've never paid that much for an order before. The service here was very friendly---thats the positive. When you name a place New Yorkers Buffalo Wings---i expect the wings to be good---DAMN good. Unfortunetly this is not the case by any means. They were not very meaty and were soggy...not good. The sauce was flavourfull though. Sampled thier homemade fries and chips--the chips were really tasty and a perfect crunch, the fries were way to thick and really dry inside. We also ordered a order of 4 mushrooms, i was guessing they would be deep fried...but they were not...just sauted whole with wing sauce---still scratching my head about those.
Anyway--if you ARE craving wings...find another spot!

Just had dinner here tonight. The food was all solid so I can't complain about that but something about the place just didnt do it for me...can't really put my finger on it.I had the quail app and the halibut and my dining companion had the pasta app and pork shoulder...and we shared the souffle for desert. Quail was very tasty...halibut was a bit overcooked and a rather teeny portion. The pork shoulder and pasta we both really flavourful and more substantial. The souffle was OK. The temptation cocktail wasn't very tempting . The wines by the glass were decent. All in all while the food was good it's not the kinda place I want to rush back to. Had dinner here last night. SAmpled a bunch of items as usual: CHips & Guac --YUM, pork riblets--super yummy with some heat and falling of the bone tender, sopa app was flavourful and crispy; the grouper was perfectly cooked ---seared on the outside and succulent on the inside . Main courses come family style with corn tortillas , black beans, refried beans, and a cabbage slaw. ..all of which were OK.
Downsides...the service---its really slow, i thought it might just be new restaurant gliches...but a few months into it...its still bad. Tried brunch here and in the words or Gordon Ramsey...it was a "dogs dinner"

I had to run some errands in chinatown this afternoon and stumbled across this place. I believe it has just changed hands---used to be a hot pot restaurant---I think. Anywho thought a random dim sum lunch sounded good. Its a pretty small spot---about 12 tables? Moderate interior. Efficient service. You mark what you want on a piece of paper that is your menu. I tried the chinese broccoli---yum...not nearly as greasy as it is most places; Har Gow & Siu Mai---both solid, nothing amazing but tasty for sure; and finally the walnut prawns...yum. I'm not a fan of the mayo but the shrimp was perfectly cooked with a little crunch and nice & sweet inside. I was remarkably impressed with the whole thing. I have had apps at Roy's in Seattle which were sub par (and it is now closed)and apps at Roys at Pebble Beach which were lovely. Finally tried Roy's in SF last night. The atmosphere is great and the server was excellent. The cocktails were great had the Hawaiian Martini and Mai Tai. The food overall was just OK. Had the hamachi app---hamachi was very good but the tartar sauce thing combined with it was overwhelming and not complimentary. The duck confit app was asian seasoned and not crisp enough. The rissoto was tasty but thats it. The butter fish was succulent! The macadamion encrusted mahi mahi -though not overcooked- was tough. Overall I was underwhelmed with the food. SO we walked by here and it was packed-all with chinese people, so its gotta be good-right? It looked like a hole in the wall that would be great. So we ventured in...it was like "chinese diner" food-and i like some solid diner food once and a while-but this AIN'T it! I ordered the pork chops w/spaghetti(YES-spaghetti!) the chops were decent though smothered with canned gravy the spaghetti sauce was gelatinous with a BBQ type sauce-gross. The salt and pepper shrimp were overcooked and REALLY fishy smelling and tasting---we sent them back. The bok choy in garlic sauce was not bad. The other entree of baby beef ribs was disgusting and smothered in brown gravy in attempt to cover up the bad quality meat. There was soup to start which i believe was suppose to be clam chowder? Yeah---'nuff said. The food was thrown at us in no particular order, soup, then chops , then bok choy, shrimp and then the beef ribs all with about 5mins in between and we never could get a refill on the drink.PASS

Ok---I have spent 30 mins on 2 review s and somehow I lost them... SO I will not spend the time again and just say this place sucked. SHanghai Noodles were mushy & flavoured with soy sauce only (and WAYYYYYY too much of it) , chicken & veg were completely flavourless and dumplings---thier specialty??? were awful and the shrimp dumplings michael bauer said you must try are non-existant. Can't recommend. Wont return. If thier is a positive it is that it is very affordable.

I've been here twice...both times for a snack while waiting in line at Swans :0). The 1st time was very blah and not very fresh. The second time was great...and we actually hit happy hour....so the nigiri was only $1!. And we found out that they are open until 2am---which is always a good in my book.

I can't say it was awfull...but it was just short of that. We had the bento "box" which wasn't actually a box...but a plate. I had the sashimi & beef teriyaki---the sashimi was too soft and the teriyaki was ...well it sucked super thin and overcooked. My dining companion had the teriyaki and tonkatsu ---which also sucked super thin and mainly batter. The miso soup was pretty good . The UCS roll was lame...and poorly rolled as it fell apart as you tried to grab it.
Won't be back...can't recommend.

I'm so dissapointed with this place. I've been wanting to try it forever and now that I have I'm not feeling it wasn't worth the wait. Tried the mixed seafood salad---not bad...but I was comparing it to Swans and it didnt stand up in my opinion. I had the lunch special of seabass---suggested by the waiter. It would have been really good if it wasn't overcooked...if seafood is thier specialty they should know how to cook it. My dining companion had the ono---also recommended by the waiter and it to was overcooked---thought the mango salsa helped keep the taste up.
After all the rave reviews I feel like I have been cheated...but I don't think I will give it another try...to many great places...especially when you are talking $100 for lunch!

Yummy. I have wanted to try this place for a while. Tried lotsa tapas: soup shot for $1 was tasty, olives were nice, eggplant app was FABULOUS!!! favourite of the night. Arugula, candied walnut, goat cheese and beet salad...mmm mmm mmm. Second favorite of the night. Carpaccio was OK, mac and cheese???WTF??? it was deep fried "mac & cheese' sticks= odd and while not awful not great and completely unexpected...can't recommend. Duck while crispy was WAY TOO overcooked and dry...too bad as it could have been REALLY good. Donut holes with hot chocolate was fabulous. All and all I was impressed. Good flavours & great service. I will come back

I walked by here today and HAD to stop...it seems like its a great little spot ...of course in the back of my mind Im thinking...Swans...its NOT.
Tried the chowder--OK. Oyster shooter---pretty decent..the oyster was so big It damn near got stuck in my throat...ikke sa godt. Combination cocktail---decent. The prices are VERY pricey---and not worth it in my humble opinion. SWANs is my all time favorite. Service was kinda slow and a bit off...can't recommend

So I was at a fundraiser months ago and one of the auction items once for luellas...and I won :) I didn't know anything about it...but my aunts name was luella and I LOVED her so I thought it was a sign :) The service was great, efficient, friendly. The food was decent. Tried the salt cod(a bit flavourless and REALLY greasy :( the eggplant, pepper & cheese---OK, flavourfull but not really an app to me the fava bean salad was yummy. Mains were the pork shoulder...mmmmmm...yummy. Halibut was decent nothing spectacular. Had 3 wines and none of them were very tasty. The ice cream sundae was tasty.
It was REALLY LOUD...too much so. I want to like it but overall its not going to be a favorite...and honestly probably won't try it again...too many other great places in the city.

Geez...promotersf must have been there the same night as myself. I started off having a really great waiter (Dave) and he was amazingly helpful and friendly but was just getting off his shift. Tried the gumbo and BBQ shrimp and an oyster shooter. The gumbo was OK...nothing fantastic...lacking in spice. The peel & eat BBQ shrimp were very tasty and very messy---loved the sauce. The oyster shooter (which we had to re-order cuz they forgot about it) was awful. When Dave handed us over to the bartender for the rest of our meal we were ignored. We finally decided that the food wasn't good enough to warrant waiting around to find out if we were ever going to get service. We finally got her attention to get the check---which she seemed really irriated about...and we ended up giving it back to Dave---even though he was off shift as bartender girl never came back. She was AMAZINGLY rude when she dropped off the change. I WOULD have considered trying it again---but she has ruined that more me.

I like the atmosphere, it is very warming and comfy (yes that means cramped ;) but they can manage it because the service is so fabulous and genuinely inviting. My cosmopolitan was tasty but the margarita was yucky :( THe coldcut app was tasty---great quality meats. THe foccacia that it was served with was not good at all---luckily we snagged some real bread. The mussels we ordered never came( which was fine we had too much food anyway), the wild mushroom pizza was sub-par---too chewy and not enough variety of mushrooms. The crab pasta was blah---the peas were undercooked by a few minutes---i love al dente but this was too much, and the crab was overpowered by the pasta sauce---even though the sauce was much lighter than most. The double pork chop was fabulous! We had 3 sides and wasn't loving any of them --- roasted beets, roast potatoes and roast carrots---they were all quality veg but all very blah in taste. I wa thinking about giving this place a positive cuz i do love the feel...

I have had snacks from here off and on. Yesterday I grabbed a bunch of apps to take home to my sweetie for dinner. YUCK. I spent $17 and threw 1/2 of it away. Their sausages, cheese and some of their sandwiches are good...but they are overpriced and there are a lot of better spots to pick up these items...say the deli at the ferry building :) or Molonaris in North Beach...or... :)

This is a pretty new spot... about 6months I think? I popped in and tried the Buffalo dog (buffalo sauce, bleu cheese & green onions) w/ a side of cole slaw. It was a damn tasty dog with a new chewy sesame roll. They have about a dozen er more dogzilla creations that all sound tasty. They also have sandwiches, salads and hot wings. They are open until 7pm so its one of the few places around that area open past the lunch crowd. The staff is excellent: very friendly and helpful. I will be back to try another dog soon: I think the mexi-dog (meat sauce, cheese, salsa, guac, sour cream and jalapenos :) And wash it down with one of thier beers on tap.

Tried a burger and a cobb salad. The salad was pretty decent, the burger even though it was by no means overcooked was just flavourless. I had the bloody mary cuz it said it was a speciality and thats one of my favorite drinks---it was seriously bland, and the fat tire (beer) was a bit on the warm side. Service was poor. Upsides: Serve food until 2am!

Geez i feel bad to be the only one with a bad review...but here it is. I have only been thier once so can't review everything...and that being said I will give it a neutral instead of a negative.
Positive: Nice atmosphere, great mojito.
I only tried apps but all of them were less than spectacular, by a long stretch. Tried the ahi tuna (yikes...not good quality by any means and the sauce was not complimentary), fried olives stuffed with gongonzola---surprizingly not too bad...and not really fried tasting. Chicken wings---shockingly bad: not only were they kinda soggy (i like 'em crispy) but they tasted of fish! Not sure if they had just fried a tonne of fish or if they used a fish sauce in the marinade...but it was NOT GOOD as you can imagine. The tempura green beans that I usually really enjoy at a couple places I have them were not served warm and had too much tempura batter. All in all can't give a good review ---but based only on thier apps.

I tried several of these dogs: Bratwurst, hot link and german sausage. All of them were tasty but nothing that screamed out to me (It's no pinks ;) but all & all its a pretty decent dog. Condiment bar has sauerkraut, a couple mustard varities, ketchup, jalepenos. They have about a dozen varieties including a veggie dog all at $3.00 so the price point is great as well. It is located in the Rincon center (actually JUST outside of it).

This is a cute LITTLE spot in Potrero 2 doors down from Farley's coffee house. It is a take out only or sit outside at one of the tables that is shares with Farleys. They have a variety of sandwiches and about 1/2 dozen different salads (honey mustard coleslaw, peanut pasta (very yummy), greek salad (not bad...a bit of a sourish favour), black bean & corn) Very homey and fresh, worth a pop by if you are in the area

Relatively inexpensive, decent portions and very mediocre food. Went with a group of friends...had a taste of several pastas none too great. My pasta stuffed with shrimp and crab and SMOTHERED with gorgonzola was awful. The sauce was really yummy but very overpowering. Normally I would say it was too much for the delicate shrimp and crab filling but it was needed for this dish as the stuffing was more of a paste and very unappealing...the sauce made it palatable. Another blah italian joint in north beach.

Just had some take out from here tonight. Chicken fried rice (blah blah), Pork Chow Mein (yikes---something in here was WAY OFF...threw the whole thing out), some spicy beef with green beans (soooooo greasy and the green beans were WAY overcooked)hot & sour soup (BLAH...had a cup and threw the rest out) egg rolls (icky). Luckily I didn't know I was getting take out so I was at home making a chicken stir -fry , which turned out to be the best dish of the night. Still on a search for a good chinese place close to home.

Positives: The Sapporo was damn tasty and cold :)
Negatives: The food. We sat there for about 20mins and no new food came around (this is one of those sushi boat places). We tried 2 items...one of which I actually spit out 'cuz it was so bad.
Definetly can't recommend and I will avoid it in the future. That being said---it was about 9:30 when we were there and slow...maybe if it was earlier and busier it would have been fresher and more options.

I popped into this lovely little Oasis yesterday as I was exploring new areas in the city. It is a cute spot, great bartender and excellent cocktails. I arrived as the bartender was hand stuffing the olives with goat cheese so i HAD to have the Olive dirty martini---YUM. The pizzas looked damn tasty ---super thin crust. They served up some asorted seasoned olives with my cocktail---very yummy. The area is sketchy---but this place is great. I would come back. Happy hour 4-6 (i think) $7 pizza and $5 cocktails.

I'm on the fence here. So i guess neutral it is. I havn't had burmese food before so I am judging it strictly for what my experience was. First of all its cool you can leave your cell # and they will call you when they are "ready", cuz the wait is long. But arriving we were still made to wait---but order while we were in line (NOT A FAN---since we were never given a menu)THe white sangria was BLAH and I sent it back, the beer with lemon was good. We tried the lettuce cups (BLAH...and with a sickly sweet sauce), Rainbow salad (veggie)---very tasty. Pumpkin pork stew---great idea, pumpkin could have been cooked longer & pork was a bit dry. Beef Kebat, good flavour but not spicy like I thought it would be. Coconut rice was yummy, but the platha was super greasy, doughy and flavourless. All & all I was not loving it...but I may give it 1 more try---just incase we had a bad night ...

Great Toro (of course) , the 'Hot Tail ' roll is HOT!!! not sure what kinda chilis they use but you'll feel it especially when you add the wasabi...mmmm...yummy. I like to sit at the bar as I always think you get better service there. There are tonnes of photos on the wall of famous people that have visited---they have been here for a while. YEAH for Mangarosa! I have yet to dine in North Beach and walk out saying---damn that was good...WELL I can say it now! EVERYTHING we tried was DE-Licious! From the Mangrarosa mojita (with Remy Red, coconut rum, muddled limes & mint--damn!!!) To the damn tasty brazilian cheese 'bread' really they are 6 small little tasty biscuits. The mangarosa salad with butter lettuce, dried cherries, fresh mango, candied walnuts, cambozola cheese w/mango & lime dressing was perfectly balanced. The seared boneless chicken w/balsamic was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The sides of yucca chips and creamed spinach were great additions. The service was GREAT!!! I wish I got our servers name --I'd ask for him again next time I come back (and I will)he was super friendly and knowledgable! But from the hostess to the bartender, to manager...everyone seemed to go out of thier way to make sure all was going well---and this was during the north beach festival! MUST TRY

Some of the best chefs come out of here...and i was hoping I was going to experience some of that. Popped in to check this place out as I was walking around the city today. Had a small cup of the potato & leek soup. It was tasty and creamy (but not like just added cream...more like just the starch from the potato)---but i was expecting something amazing with a name like soup freaks. I think the soup company has better soups. It also seems odd that soup freaks only serves 4 or 5 types of soups...and at least 2 of those are chilis. Positives:Everything is fresh ,organic and made from scratch. Great healthy, tasty options for breakfast and lunch if you are in the financial district. There is some counter seating but mostly this place caters to take-away. I need to try at least 1 more time to give a more accurate review.

This is a fairly new cafe across the street from the ferry building on Market. They specialize in Panini with approximately 15 varieties...all affordable ($3.75 for 1/2 & $6.50/whole) They also have a variety of salads as well. I have tried a couple 1/2 sandwiches --the chicken and the Eggplant--and they have both been tasty...nice melted cheese on a thin cut homemade bread. I've had the mixed salad and it was decent all of them look tasty. They just got licensed to sell beer and wine and they do a happy hour i think 5-7? maybe 4...not sure...havn't been yet for that. They have a bunch of tables and chairs outside.

Tried the steak sandwich today. It was ok. I was thinking there would be more flavour to it. It is a little bit of meat, LOTS of oil and vinegar coleslaw and some fries on an italian bread. Its not bad...but I guess cuz most of the filling is flavourless coleslaw thats what it tastes like. I added salt, pepper and some hot sauce and that added a little bit of flavour. I would probably pop by again at some point.

Recently tried the calabria & trentino along with thier side of broccoli and garlic bread sticks. The broccoli was nice, lemony and still crispy (could have been slightly more cooked). The garlic bread sticks were nice...not amazing and the pizza was yummy. I asked for the thin-crust and the waiter said just to go with thier regular one unless I was doing low carb (which obviously i wasn't). The crust we recieved was thin and tasty...but so thin I can't image how they make it thinner.

After walking by here many times we finally gave it a try as "Canteen" where we wanted to go was closed for a private party.
The sign outside says seafood tapas with a twist...with an name like Anju I made an ssumption (VERY INCORRECTLY) that this was going to be asian cusine. Well its all very confusing because they do say they have the best spanish/korean fusion tapas. I really didnt see the korean in anything except there was 1 paella that listed korean pasta instead of rice...and they have Soju to drink. We tried the Stuffed Roasted Pepper with Codfish, Squid, and Shrimp, the PPotato gratin with apples and Chorizo and the Valenencia Paella. The appetizers wern't awful: the seafood was well overcooked in the roasted pepper , the potato gratin was bland but OK...though the chorizo was actually just 3 tiny slices on the side---none in the gratin. The paella was horrific--greasy rice, overcooked seafood ...definetly the worst I have ever had. Can't recommend..won't be back.

i've been here a couple times...
Pluses: Nice patio, nice atmosphere, good variety of food.
It is a chain---which i usually steer clear of...but it's also close to home---so it happens. Its more upscale then most chains and the food is decent...but thats all. There are tooo many great places in the city that are local that I would prefer to visit. That being said its not a bad spot...have had a couple of tasty apps and some more mediocre mains.

Cute little spot, efficent service...comfort style food. I wanted to like this place I love homestyle food...but this wasn't it. We shared the french onion soup-yuck. It was gelatinous---never a good thing for soup of anykind. It tasted like a beef gravy base watered down then cornstarch added to make it thicker. It had a couple of croutons on top with VERY little cheese. NOT GOOD. I ordered the meatloaf---not a wise decision. Very dry with a wierd relish/marina sauce blend on top. The garlic mash tasted like they came out of the box, the carrots were OK...but cold. My dining companion had the mac & cheese ---the best call of the night. Very nice and cheesy...good flavour.
It is an affordable place, and maybe some of the other items are better...we might have had a bad night. I MAY try it again down the road.

Just got back from Lime tonight. I LOVE the spot itself...very cool. I LOVE the concept...small plates--big fan. I just didn't care for the food :( booo
We tried the deviled eggs---SOOOO salty and WAY too much paprika. Caeser salad (cups)-- great concept...but WAY too much cheese and dressing...overpowering and also salty---and if you read my reviews...you KNOW i LOVE salt. The miso crusted seabass was flavourless. The grilled cheese with tomato soup for dipping was the best of the lot---but I wish the soup was served hot, or atleast warm.
The cocktails were fabulous! The best Mojito I have had to date, and the lemon drop was very tasty as well.
I will probably return for cocktails---and probably try the mini burgers...they seemed to be the most popular and looked yummy.
Would recommend atleast to pop by for a drink...Enjoy.

I tried the mixed tandoori plate which was a dissapointment. The meats were overcooked and not flavourfull. Shared the mixed appizer plate which consisted of a samosa, Pakora (spinach, onion & potato dipped in chickpea butter and fried) and a papadum....it was tasty and not surprizingly not too oily. The chicken korma was really tasty, lots of great flavours and still tender chunks of chicken. I had the Sula savignon blanc from India and it is wonderful! Must have and compliments the food well. Ditto ...i agree with eat_me. I tried the exact same sandwhich and it was reallllly tasty. The menu is very basic...a couple sandwiches, burgers, wings and 3 entrees...hopefully its all as good as the chicken. There was a sign on the front door saying that the kitchen was open only from 11am-5pm...so you might want to check ahead if you are going out after that. The atmosphere is a bit....I dunno...in need of something...I was there early afternoon though...it might be a cool spot at night. I'll give it another try next time I'm by.

I tried my usual when i go to a vietnamese place---Pho and Imperial rolls. The Pho was spicy beef...and was just OK...the broth had no flavour...even after adding the sirachi sauce it was underwhelming. The crispy imperial rolls were tasty...if not overly greasy and served at room temperature ( and I mean that literally---like they had been fried much earier and left out.) I like a good hole in the wall and this is one...you can defiently fill up without breaking the bank. Service was friendly and fast. I'd probably go back...just not for the Pho---save that for Turtle tower :)

Pluses: A cute little spot in a nice neighbourhood. The food was pretty tasty, had the eggs bennie--good hollandaise (not always easy to find) and corned beef hash---the best I've ever tried. I usually keep away from it as It always seems like it comes out of the can...but these were nice strips of corned beef cooked with a nice carmelization.
Negatives: SLOW service...it took us about 45minutes to get our food...it was busy...but that is crazy fr breakfast service. The breakfast menu is pretty limited...all of the great items I've been told to try were not on the menu :( I figure you should atleast have your famous banana cream pie available ....oh well.
I might try again...but its not anywhere near my place so it seems unlikely anytime soon

I have heard of this place through several people so finally decided to give it a go. Positives: Open until 2am! So if i absolutely MUST have sushi late night I will return...otherwise I dont think so.
The sushi was OK...but for OK sushi I want a lot cheaper prices. The rolls were better than the sushi...but NOTHING impressed me at all. Tried about 8 different items. THere was a DJ playing...not a big fan. Basically it was a less trendy version of sushi groove , with less atmosphere and food that isn't as good...I'd happily pay the extra couple bucks at sushi groove and get quality food.

I sawsome good reviews about this place on citysearch (WHY i check here i have NO idea!...its useless) ANyway...we went...and yeah...not impressed to say the least...guessing they cater manily to tourists as its in union square area. We tried the Hamachi---very good, maguro---not very good and the playboy roll---would have been great , it had tuna , avacado, albacore and salmon. The main problem is the salmon is smoked and overpowers the other delicate flavours. I can't reccommend even though its not awful...just too many other good spots out there.

The onyx lounge is just inside the westin st. francis...when you walk in the main doors. They serve a small sampling of of the Michael Minna resturant: lobster corn dogs, black truffle popcorn ...we had foie gras tourchon w/pineapple jelly, seafood ceviche and the dungeness crab ravioli. The foie gras was OK---it was in pate form...im a purist with my foie gras. The seafood ceviche was excellent and for $8 a great value...it is served with lavosh crackers. The dungeness crab was delicate and succulent....served in a thai coconut broth ...a great balanced flavour. It was a nice way to sample some of the restuarant items without the $$$$ commitment...though i look forward to trying Michael Minnas....especially after the samples.

I have eaten here once and was not nearly as impressed as I was told I should be...but there ya are...i don't usually follow trends. I tried the tuna tartar and was less than impressed it was fresh, but totally flavourless...sometimes tuna is that way...and you need to season it (in my opinion). Simplicity is nice...but if its flavourless work with it. Also tried a dozen oysters...tasty of course. Decor is trendy and cool...seems overpriced, and overdone to me. I ended up going over to Postrio for thier tuna tartar and I was happy again!

Very small spot , moderatly friendly staff...great spot for total unpretencious food and service. I walked by here a few days ago and it seemed something was different...I think they have spruced it up...cleaner...ALWAYS a good thing!

I was here today for the first time (Sat at 11am) . I think it is a cute place and I'm sure its a cool place to have a glass of wine, a small snack or a coffee. I had the tuna salad (salad) and it was NOT good...infact both the tuna AND the lettuce were warm and the tuna salad was BLAH. I also shared the apple gorgonzola toast---what are they thinkin?---not a nice combo---no matter how interested it sounded. My dining companion had a sandwich---which was just OK. I won't make a point to stop by again...though if I lived in the area I probably would...It might be much better when its slower.

Update. OK so this was my 3rd time back now (my b/f & I have each won...besides the time we went ourselves). The 2nd time was better and the last was overall pretty good. I really like the casual cute atmosphere and even though the service can be a bit slow to start they are super friendly. Still not one of my absolute favs...but something about it I really like. I am excited to give thier brunch a try...benedicts & beneigts (whatever---'nawlins doughnuts ;0)
Well we tried this place tonight. I cannot agree with any of the reviews. We shared the soup of the day (veggie) and the fried artichoke salad. Soup was OK...bland. Salad was yummy because of the arugula---the goat cheese was nice...the fried artichokes were NOT a good addition...overall salad was not well combined.
For the mains I had the scallops and my b/f had the lamb. Scallops were overcooked and the sauce had too much sherry and sugar---I left 2 1/2 scallops on the plate (out of 4). THe lamb may be the WORST presentation I

Had dinner here thursday night...thier kitchen is open until 1AM--woo hooo---HUGE plus for me.
Atmospheere is cool...comfy. The wait/barstaff was wonderful---very friendly, helpful and efficient. Food was good. For apps we shared dayboat scallops---wonderful! perfectly cooked...tender on the inside slightly crispy on the outside. Lobster wontons--OK...nothing much...overcooked. Foie gras (which you all know I ADORE...the buttery flavour...like butter melting down your chin---ummm...ahh...hmmm ..anyway I digress...it was just OK.It didn't have all those lovely qualities...it fell short...but wasn't bad. Kumamoto oysters...very tasty....a lovely balance of mineral and fruit flavours. Short ribs..VERY!!! tender..but really lacking flavour :( (USE SALT!!!!) ---yeah we all know i love salt too much. Had the steak for a main along with some cheese and truffle oil fries. AGAIN...the steak was OK....tender but not much flavour and the fries were very tasty...nice and crispy. I am sure I wil

Mistral always has several types of roast meat , on weekends sweetbreads (yummy), fabulous roasted veg (yams, potato, tomato, asparagus, brussel sprouts...), mushroom polenta, mac n cheese ...everything varies daily. I have eaten here a half dozen times. It is true comfort food...some of the roasts have been overcooked and a bit dry...overall the roast veg is my favorite all the time. I think all the dishes need salt added (Hi, Im diane---Im a salt-a- holic) But there seems to be a bit of lack of flavour...and yet i still love it :)They have assorted plates available between $8.50-$12.50. Pretty good value. Very friendly staff ...the smells are heavenly. They also have great broths available to take home. Definetly give it a try.

YUM YUM YUM. I was reluctant to try this because it is part of the Plumpjack group and I have been very dissapointed in the past. But I am only 2 blocks away...so i HAD to give it a try. Very cozy interior. They have about a dozen 'jack snacks' at $2 a piece...we tried 7! There are a variety of nuts....but my FAV...ham chips, fried sage leaves...OMG...we had 2 of each of those...mmmmmm. Apps...liberty duck creme caramel..the mouth feel on this is AMAZING. THen the pork belly....very tasty...but needed just a little something. Then we shared the Oxtail for our main...almost as good as my b/f's ...and that is the best compliment i can give...no one else i have tried in the city has come close to his. The service was EXCELLENT...super effeicent and friendly. I will be back as often as I can afford to

I'm always surprized when i find sinbads is still open. I am guessing the owners are not in the business to make money---cuz there is no way they can. It is really overprized and the food is completly unappealing. I have tried 2 items and have been really dissapointed and have spent way too much for what i got. I have only been once to the new slanted door location...and the pho that i LOVE was not as lovely as it was before...and about 2/3 of the size of when it was at Brannan & Embarcadero. I love the shaking beef, imperial rolls and thier lovely giger infused cocktails. I have never really liked thier desserts.
YES they are very expensive...and i have tried the shaking beef at 2 other vietnamese restaurants and have been sadly dissapointed...so it is worth it to try it at least once. The imperial rolls you can find at a lot of places and they are equally as good for 1/2 the price...so hard to say if it is worth it all in all. I have heard not so positive reviews from foodie friends of mine...that they are just not as happy with the new location/service/quality and they LOVED it before...so I can't say what its like now.

very intereseting place. Old school decor and atmosphere ...almost like i place i'd find back home in Nova Scotia...but the food is not quite a yummy as it is there. It is decent though...and resonably priced...the clams were a bit to greasy and battered (not beaten up ;0) just too much batter. They had some nice zing to them but were not quite as crispy as I normally like....they were a good size though. The garlic fries were no Gordon biersch...the freis were decent and crispy though. It has been over a year however...and I would be willing to give it another try...as it was still relatively new when i ate there. I have been in here several times over the last couple years. I seem to always end up there at off times...really slow. The food is OK...I've tried the sandwiches a couple times come with steak fries...which are always nice an crispy like I like them. They just started serving Sunday brunch...comes with a free mimosa...they JUST started the brunch and have very few true brunch items...but I plan on giving it a try sometime soon...one of the items is a crab benny :) mmmm my fav. ARRRGH, i just wrote a LONG review and it got deleted...so i dont have the time to do it all over. I WANTED to like this place...seemd cute and only german food...it had to be good. I have spent a lot of time in germany and thier food isn't fancy...but there is no better place for sausage , saurkraut & schnitzel. Unfortunetly this wasn't one of them. Tried the jagerschnitzel and geraucherte brats. Both were very underwhelming. THe saurkraut wasn;t sour at all, kinda oily, the schnitzel was overcooked and BLAH, the red cabbage was tasty...the beer was FABULOUS, the wine was not, the potato soup was OK...the rye bread & flavoured butter was good. I might have just caught them on an off night---but I won't be back. ANd i have to saay for the price the plates were not very large---unusual for german food

None of the other items were as good as usual either.
I have ordered from here a half dozen times...always decent. Oddly enough the Pad Thai is the worst thing that I have tried on the menu. We ordered the arugla salad which was delicious...great combination. Liberty duck ---mmmmm-very tasty...nice combo.
We ended up going back that friday and tried some more...The sea bass---nice, good flavour...SLIGHTY overdone...but not tooo much, Sirloin steak w/mashed potatoes...tasty...not amazing...but nice.

Have been thinking about trying this place forever...and after going thru the TOP 100 a few weeks ago...decided to give it a go. I have NO idea how this place gets on the list? kickbacks??? We tried damn near everything: sea scallops(overcooked---no flavour), tai snapper (WAY too much lemon-overpowering), flatiron steak(blah), sausage bocadillo ( tastes like SPAM), foie gras roll (i liked it, my dining companion didn't. Nicely balanced...yummy buttery foie gras, but not amazing ) prawns & deviled eggs (YUCK...worst deviled eggs I have ever had---& they are hard to screw up in my book), boquerones/olives/artichokes/mushrooms(bland), patatas(basically steak fries..sent them back for being undercooked), lomo&chorizo-cold cuts-VERY TASTY, Caramel Flan-DELICIOUS and I'm not a huge dessert fan. Had some nice spanish wine---try the Dehasa Tempranillo -FABULOUS. Overall I am very dissapointed and won't be back. Too many other great places & the service was very spotty.

Went new years eve 2003 for the prix fix. The food was good...but very dissapointing for a new years menu...nothing really creative or interesting...and definetly not for the price. That being said...I LOVED the staff...the chef/owner was out with the customers throughout most of the evening...making sure everyone was having a good time. I have been meaning to go back as I have heard great things. I shall try again on a regular day :)

I have been here many times. They have great oysters, cobb salad, calamari....well honestly everything I've tried has been very tasty. I love going on a nice day/night and relax on the patio. Oysters , champagne....mmmm. Service has always been just OK. It has been rather slow and forgetful at times. Overall I will go back...I live in the area. It is worth a try.

One of my favorite places to kick back and relax. The food is very tasty....mmmm tuna melt :) A nice variety of light snacks, salads, sandwiches. Very tasty baked good and breakfast sandwiches. Lotsa of coffees...nice selections for a pot of tea...as well as wine and beer. The staff is WONDERFUL...extra helpful. Cute bookstore attached...and fabulous outside seating when the weather is warm. I come here for various items throughout the week. Great place to bring a book or your laptop and hangout for a while. And its all part of the Delancey street project...so its for a great casue as well!
Enjoy

This is an interesting spot. I have been here a few times. The food was very tasty and inexpensive. I've had the steak, the tuna melt with the sides....very good. The catch---its a smoking establishment? Not sure how that works. Its very casual, service is usually very friendly and quick. If you are ever in the area...give it a try---if smoke doesn't bother ya too much. (I'm not a smoker by the way but it doesnt really bother me)

I used to come here a couple times a month while I was training with the AIDS marathon. Food was never to die for ..but pretty solid. I've tried salads, soups, sides and sands...all decent...bit pricey for what it is. The beer was very tasty, the view is great and the staff is friendly. Nice place to take visitors.

Had the fried chicken and the special valentines dinner which was a prix frix for $30 (mussels, seared mahi mahi , chocolate dipped strawberry and a glass of sparkiling wine. The food was all good....nothing really stood out...but a good value and GREAT service. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were awesome. i would go back, fun environment and plenty of food to fill up on.

UPDATE: I am changing this review to NEUTRAL. I came here the other night in the mood for sashimi and the quality was poor. I ordered the combination sashimi plate $23 and was severly dissapointed...gummy, WARM sashimi...this is suppose to be one of the good spots. I sent it back after trying a bite of each variety.
I wish Ebisu had a spot on this side of town!
Great food & ultra cool atmosphere = very pricey. The toro was my favorite that night. I still prefer Ebisu for the quality/cost ratio. I don't need the hip scene (cuz Im not ;)

Maybe not an authentic chinese restaurant but the food was great. Definetly a lot less greasy than most of the Chinese spots I've been tryig lately. The best hot&sour soup I've had for a while...great fresh veggies.

Pluses: Serve dim sum later in the day for us slow to get up and going people! Inexpensive, Chinese broccoli perfectly cooked!yum.
Minuses:decor-very uninviting, salt & peper squid was rubbery and had too much breading on the squid...should have been lighter like a panko. The stuffed eggplant was very tasty but much too oily. Steamed pork puns were not too exciting...very little stuffing and too much star anise in the seasoning (YES it is not my favorite seasoning--a little goes a LONG way). All of the dumplings were quite nice. King of canton shrimp = Har Gao(if that is spelled correctly) Stuffed shrimp dumpling with celentro (not a typing error on my part :) was really nice---my favorite. Siu mai(pork dumpling exactly what you expect as is the shrimp dumpling w/pea sprout.
Looking around at the other diners that ordered off the menu---the food looked good and plentiful...but oily...so choose wisely. Definetly worth a trip...I'll go back

I have tried Amicis twice now...and havn't been very impressed. The crust has been too limp. It may just be the problem of ordering pizza for delivery...it softens up on the trip. Topping wise it was OK....chesse and a few topping.

Great green beans, calamari w/jalapenos are wonderful, the moo-shu pork with pankcakes are very tasty. Its fun sitting at the upstairs 'bar' to watch them cooking. Avoid the '5 spice' edamame it has way too much star anise

I live across the street so am in there every few months and always feel the same way. THe food is neither great nor awful. I love the whole delancey street concept but i generally end up at delancey rather than plan on going there. Prices are very inexpensive and the patio is fabulous on a nice day...but the food generally falls shorts of anything that great. They run the cafe around the corner as well which i consider a bit yummier...crossroads cafe.

I am normally a thin crust pizza fan because of the usual soft gooey crust of a deep dish. The crust here is deep but nice and crispy with cornmeal. The pizza was really good. The service was fine...but definetly not overly friendly. It has the potential to be a really cool spot.

Fresh Halibut with mixed seafood marinated in lime juice, served with yams, Peruvian corn and mussels in a salsa criolla. FABULOUS!
Layers of aji amarillo mashed potatoes stuffed with Dungeness crab meat and shrimp topped with a huacatay sauce. Very nice.

Its an old school italian restaurant. You will NEVER walk away hungry...everything is pretty basic...unlikely to WOW you but I've always been happy with the hamburger steak or any of the meats. The sides, except the fries, are usually a bit dissapointing overcooked veggies. Prices are great for what you get.

YIKES! WHat was I thinking? I have NEVER had a worse meal. I ended up taking my mum and her hubbie here when they were visiting (we had tried several other places that i WANTED to go but the wait was too long---i wonder why there was no wait here???)
The meals were all bland, luke warm and completely boring.
Highly UN-RECOMMENDED

New Years Eve 2004. Had a fabulous meal! Apps: Foie gros on a bed of cherries topped with orange zest (YUM!) Escarole Salad with bacon & soft boiled egg (good) Pork Belly topped with foie gros on a bed of lentils (YUM!) Dinner: Steak Frites (a classic) LOVE the pomme frites! Kobe beef Short Ribs w/braised brussel sprouts and whipped potates (AMAZING...melt in your mouth ribs...)
Service was fabulous, atmosphere very bistro -esque. Highly recommend!

The ridiculous $40 roast chicken was REALLY that good...Though I was more that a little irked though when we only finished half the chicken and they took it away and tossed it! Had drinks and a cheese plate here christmas day...the drinks while not cheap (about $12 each) were very tasty and the cheese plate at $14 was a great deal. 4 types of cheese along with dates, fig, nuts and bread. They also served free snacks of wasabi peas---the best I've ever had--- and some yummy back olives.
Give it a try ...nice for a cocktail and snack before or after an event in the city

I'm sure the tasting menu is great but at $115??? crazy. We ended up just having apps ($20 each!) foie gros ravioli (mediocre at best) crab salad (great crab...but no presentation) oxtail&sweetbread?? (bad combo)
This place is overly pretencious--in my humble opinion...lotsa better options in the city.

I have been many times and have never had good service...most often mediocre or worse for that matter. The beer is good...the food so-so. Fries are a no-brainer--must have--ocassionally the burgers are good...if they are not overcooked. ALWAYS packed during baseball season. I think its a good place if you want to hang out with a group of people and mainly just drink beer and have some apps. Nice patio. But I have officially declared that i will not return. The service SUCKS!
