Located in one of SF's famous alleyways in the heart of SF Financial District, this is a great place to dug in for a drink or grab a bite any time of the day. Some people love the fish and chips here, but it was a disappointment for me when I tried it. The things I like from the menu are the mountainous-high hamburger with fries to crave, hearty shepherd's pie, spicy Thai chicken curry (incredibly tasty, and spicy even when it's at medium level).

Fun, quick, and fairly economical. This is an ideal place to get a quick bite. I had ahi tuna with red onions on skewers, and grilled pear salad. In general, my food was tasty with proper and sufficient seasoning; however, the ahi was not consistently grilled--some pieces were over cooked, and parts of the pear was over grilled to a char.(Maybe that's expecting too much out of an quick bite eatery.)Overall, most items on the menu are still very good and I'd go back.

This long-time cafe in North Beach is ideal for any time of the day. One can always depend on a good brew of coffee, and the variety of desserts make my palat dance every time. During my most recent visit, I had the minestrone soup and was pleasantly surprised by the unusual ingredients and the extent of stew. I was also very happy with the quality and quantity. Excellent choice of establish for meeting a friend, getting a quick bite, or joying some dessert.

The bar set up is grand and hip. The indoor/outdoor patio ambiance is great for a Sunday afternoon. However, I found the dungeness crab benedict, which was raved by a friend, disappointing. The hollandaise sauce wasn't mixed right-too much butter, not enough salt. My fries were too greasy and a bit cold by the time I got it, as if they were the last batch before a new batch is to be made. In addition, the coffee was weak. I wouldn't want to go there again for food, but will consider the bar.

This has got to be one of the best brunch places in the City--the service is pleasant and efficient, the food quality is consistently tasty, and the decor conveys an uplifting, cheery ambiance, atypical of greasy diners. It's a fairly small establishment; the line is always out the door, but the excursion is well worth it. I haven't had anything that was mediocre.
