In my opinion - there is one reason to go to Blue - and that is quite simply that they have the best mac and cheese in the city. Add the grilled chicken - and a salad to start and you have a very filling meal for under $20 bucks that you can't beat. It is always good for people watching - just be prepared to get to know your neighbors. They also have a decent inexpensive wine list. Don't go expecting Jardiniere and you'll enjoy it. I did.

If you have to go here, have a glass of something sparkling, look at the million dollar view, enjoy a dozen oysters and then go to Ana Mandara for an excellent meal (which sits right below this joint). This restaurant is a glorified seafood diner. For the prices they charge, it is a terrible value. The food quality is below average - from my experience. The clam chowder tasted like it came out of a can. The ravioli with crab in a blue cheese sauce was a congealed pile of nothing. The Parmesan coated sole was OK (edible), but the mashed potatoes were cold and hard. Tourists must love this place ( which was readily apparent). As a local - I will not go back. With oysters, 2 glasses of bubbly, a bottle of wine and the meal (for 2) - we spent $120 before the tip. It is not worth the price for mediocrity.

Moose's is a San Francisco classic - with a new chef that is putting this place back on the map. I ate there tonight - and had a great meal. The atmosphere was buzzing, the jazz music was great, the wine list had great choices in every price range, and most importantly everyone loved our food. The Ribeye steak was excellent, the loin of pork was perfectly matched with fresh corn/zucchini/walla walla onions, the halibut with mussels worked, and the only ho hum dish was the mushroom ravioli. The Caesar was perfect too. Was it expensive? All totaled it was - but this restaurant is special and the cost was well worth it. Will I go back? Absolutely. The Serious Chocolate Dessert was phenomenal!
I think what makes this restaurant unique is the fact that there are business men and women, politicos, tourists, yuppies, ladies who lunch, and SF society all in one room - just like Stars in it's heyday.
I also learned that on Monday nights they have 50% off on bottles of wine $70 and under.
