Totally agree. The burgers are fresh grilled to order and are fabulous. Great onion rings, too.

Just back from my birthday dinner and it was not fun. Freezing air blowing on my wife and teenage daughters and me and we got instant headaches. Told the waiter twice and he said they were working on it. Finally stopped a managerial-looking type and nearly bit his head off and then the air was shut off. By now bad feelings all around.
The waiters had no clue how to decant or pour wine, they just dumped it into the decanter and the glasses. My daughter ordered the crab cake appetizer, the waiter took the order without a problem and then returned and said they "don't have them, what esle do you want?". When she asked to see the menu again he was perterbed. Very amateurish.
The food was actually quite good, but it just couldn't overcome the experience. Thanks to previous reviews, we knew to ask for the steak with sauce on the side. Loved the potatoes gratin. Nice desserts.
Very bad acoustics in there. We could not hear each other talk.

I agree with Bess the previous reviewer. I went last night and hand the same things except for the chicken and I actually drank the leftover ceviche juice ! The atmosphere is great with brushed tin ceiling tiles and other homey touches that reflect lots of TLC. They do brunch on Sundays which I also can't wait to try. Very friendly staff. Overall ... excellent !!

Attitude, attitude, attitude !!! Good food, but I hate a place where they don't put salt and pepper on the table and then act like it's a new concept when you ask for it (the pompous jerk even told me which was which "this grinder is pepper, this little silver tub of white stuff with a spoon in it is salt," "Oh, gee, I thought it was Cocaine"). Also, the wine guys (3 of them) stop by every five seconds to top up already too full red wine glasses, proably to rush us out since we arrived at 10PM after a show at the Herbst, but it was Friday night. Just to spite them and have wine left for the cheese course we ordered a second bottle (knowing full well that their other motive was to sell more over marked-up wine) and still were out of wine before we finished the cheese. This place reminds me of the pompous attitude joints of the Reagan 80s. I thought we we're all beyond this. Nice food Traci, but I'll season it at the table as I see fit.

We just had a couple of very nice paninis that came with a beautifully dressed salad of designer greens. The nice Brit lady behind the counter prepared it all with TLC. They could do with a little dusting in and around the place but it had lots of charm and atmosphere.

We had a ball. Great food. We did all small plates. Excellent cheese plate. A great place to bring visitors. We were very impressed. No-nonsense waitress, incredibly curt but funny and matter-of-fact. I 'd go back weekly. The wine flights are a gas !!!!!!!! Great pre- or post-theater spot.

Wow two negative reviews in one weekend. Yuck! This negative review is not really for the restaurant but for the ultra-ignorant owner. We had a party for about 60 scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 1:30PM in the back garden. The group was comprised of the students, parents and siblings of the graduating 8th graders of a nearby neighborhood school. The cost was $25 per head (and the creep insisted on cash). We arrived promptly and were told to wait out front on the (freezing) street. We finally got into the garden by 2:00 (they had poorly timed the final seating of brunch customers) and were served our food at 3:15PM !!! We didn't all fit out back, had to pay separately for the wine and were served one shwarma (wrap) each for our $25 each ($100 for a family of 4). An ingenious way to endear yourself to a large group of potential repeat customers or create bitter enemies that were burned by your greed. What a fool! The negative word of mouth from this will kill this place.

Wow. I'm a regular and I love this place, but had a horrible experience Saturday night. Way too much fat in the ribs and we were stuck in the back room where the cart can't get next to the tables. Disappointing when you've brought a table of 9 mostly first-timers and had hyped up the table-side cart. The server saved an otherwise terrible night. She was terrific ! Can't say the same for surley John at the check-in stand. He should be fired for `tude he spewed on guests waiting up to a half-hour for reservation seating, with equallly no seating/service in the bar area. Gus should never take a night off again for the sake of their reputation !!!

We love to sit at the counter and do the wine flights. The menu always has something we love. They have the best olives I've ever eaten. How do they do that? I think the free sparkling Hetch Hetchy is very cool. I want that system for my house. All in all the best Italian in SF in my book.

Excellent Tortellini soup brings me back again and again. This is not a corporate chain it is the ultimate American dream for this poor immigrant from Italy. The guy started with nothing and built it into a local empire and met his wife at this Noe location. He just recently accepted minority funding (20%) from Wendy's to take concept broader. He still owns 80%, controls quality, and loves his baby. Grant the guy his success and wish him well. I can't wait for the Wendy's choc-o-malts to show up on the menu though (just kidding)!

Good breakfast but over easy eggs came over medium with that East Coast New York style burnt brown edge on them. Yuck. Turn down the heat and all would be well. I'd go again and reject any burnt eggs next time. Excellent shredded hash browns and flavorful, lean sausage links.

We go here once a month or so usually on Sunday nights and sit at the counter, not the bar, so we can watch the cooks. We drink oyster vodka shooters and give them an extra trip for the show they put on every time. We always order the lamb chops and shrimp. It never fails. Always have oysters and some mussels. Never a bad experience. Never had a reservation so can't comment on how that is. We love it and would miss it it terribly if it were gone. Before Katrina I was in New Orleans a couple of weeks every year and this has exactly the same festive feel.
