I'm hesitant to add reviews, because I don't really want other people to know about this place. Maybe they will overlook it, as they walk by looking for "Eiji." (I believe there is only a banner saying "sushi" outside). As others mentioned, it's tiny - only a few tables, so a long wait is possible. It was worth the wait, however. The food is well prepared, fresh, and well presented. I like that the presentation and decor are less polished compared to some of the larger and more popular restaurants in town. Staff is very friendly, willing to make recommendations. Can be a little bit slow if at capacity because there are only a couple of people working there.

I think if you are realistic about what to expect from this place, you will not be disappointed. It's a (chain or franchise, not sure? - multi location anyway), not authentic, and YES the atmosphere is going to be drunk people and loud music, it is called "Sushi Rock" after all! That being said, the food is not bad. It's not great, but it's not bad. I find it pretty tolerable late in the evening, after drinking, just want to have a bite. I've never had to wait for a table here.

I like this place.. I agree that it's not the BEST sushi in SF, but it's okay and I've never felt that it's not fresh or problematic in any way. The service at tables is pretty slow, sit at one of the bars (sushi or drinking) if possible and your service greatly improves. Personally, I like sitting at the bar upfront, having a few drinks (strawberry lemonade - very good!) and ordering a few plates to share with a friend rather than making a sit-down meal of it. The atmosphere - always loud, poppy or electronic music (if you can hear it over the diners), usually film playing against the wall near the entrance. It always seems very clean in the restaurant, which is important to me especially when having sushi. There can be a wait for a table, if you have a large party, you might send someone ahead, or put in your name and wait at Kilowatt.

India Clay Oven occasionally gets my business because there aren't other Indian restaurants in the immediate area. The food is nothing special - occasionally poor - and is a bit overpriced compared to the quantity and quality you receive. I especially feel ripped off when ordering takeout, as they seem to mark up prices for takeout and also skim further on portion size. As others mentioned, there is a very long delivery wait. I end up ordering from Masala instead, and feel content with my choice. What is odd is that their other location in SoMa is decent.

The staff here are very nice and attentive, and tend to throw in complimentary extras, but the food is very average. The ambiance is very weird too. I don't mind kitschy, but the walls are covered in photographs of drunk teenage girls. It feels a little wrong to peruse these as you eat your dinner. I've also noticed that later at night, especially on weekends, they seem to attract (and maybe even be serving) a drunk underage clientele. They mostly move them to the room upstairs, but it still can be a bit noisy. The prices are average - I think there is better sushi to be had at better prices in this neighborhood.

Does anyone else recall that this used to be an Extreme Pizza restaurant? When I first saw it had reopened as a sushi restaurant (especially connected to a sports bar), I was skeptical, but the fish is not bad. They have my beloved 49er roll (though it's much better at Ebisu) and ume which is a plus in my book. Nothing has really been exceptional, but it's not bad either. Pricey compared to other neighborhood spots.

How does this place get good reviews? It's the worst restaurant in the neighborhood. Honestly, I've gotten a bit sick every time I've eaten here. Everything is pre-packaged/mix, they admit this when you ask for a variation on things in the menu, you can't custom order omelets, because it's a mix. Yuck. Even in the middle of the night, I'd rather get on the bus and go to someplace further away than take my chances with Video Cafe.

Even though there is not a wealth of great Italian restaurants in San Francisco, I don't understand why anyone would eat here. As far as "Italian" food goes, this is not passable. Even for Olive Garden chain standards, this particular location is poor -- the service is incredibly slow even when they are not crowded, and every time I've eaten here, my food has been served cold. The menu is overpriced for what you receive and most dishes are flavorless.

I can't imagine going out of my way to eat here, but if you happen to work nearby, it's a decent lunch spot. They have a small seating area with wi-fi and quick service for take-out. Some of the salads are good (I like the cobb) and all of the sandwiches I've tried have been tasty. They also have decent breakfast sandwiches. It's a bit pricy for what is offered, but it is convenient and fast if you're in a rush for lunch.

First, let me say, I actually like Mel's a lot. I just do not like this location. Every time I've eaten here, the food has been served just a bit on the cold side, and preparation is very sloppy. I've always been served food that was past its prime -- soggy waffles and pancakes, burgers that taste just a little bit funky. The food is poor even for diner quality -- I'd expect the Mel's to be somewhat consistent, but this particular location is off.

Disclaimer: I've never eaten in the restaurant -- I always order take-out. Aside from a long-ish delivery wait time (always 45-60 minutes and we're practically next door), it's average priced and the dishes I've ordered have been very tasty. They are one of the few Indian places that will make food as hot (spicy) as I like. My only complaint is that the rice always tastes like it has been reheated a few times.

Easily my favorite Indian restaurant in SF. Everything I've tried here has been incredibly fresh and well spiced. I like that there is quite a bit of variation in the preparation of the dishes depending on who is cooking -- for example, every time I've ordered saag paneer here, it has always been wonderful, but always very different. While I've enjoyed everything I've tried, some favorites: paneer makhani, goat cheese naan, lamb biryani, saag gosht, and the seekh kebab (it's to die for, really it is).
The atmosphere is very nice -- I like that sometimes they play very traditional music, and sometimes more modern (bhangra or Indian pop music). The staff is very friendly. Service can be a little bit slow sometimes when they are very busy, but when this happens the staff is apologetic and usually provides a free appetizer. I could eat here every day probably!

Disclaimer - I've only had veggie dishes here, I would be afraid to try fish. Everything tastes and appears as if it has been sitting at room temperature for hours. Also: roaches, on the sushi boats. I'm not kidding. I don't think this is an isolated incident, either, since their most recent inspection cited both roach and rodent problems (it also mentioned improper temperature for perishable food).

Everyone talks about Tommy's, but people in the Richmond know Tia's is the place to go. The margaritas are made with fresh limes -- no mixes here! The food is nothing special, but is not offensive. Gordo's is a great value for a quick and cheap lunch when you don't want to leave the neighborhood. It's not the best burrito you'll find in SF, but it's convenient. I've warmed up to this place as a weekday lunch spot. Some highlights: Niman Ranch burgers, grilled chicken sandwich, pizzelle, house salad with absolutely delicious dressing. Their beers really are decent -- if they have the watermelon beer, TRY IT, it is incredible. Downside: overpriced food and mixed drinks, on game nights and Fridays it's packed to the point of discomfort, and NOT a good crowd. Try it for lunch sometime.

The service at the bar and for takeout are quick, but table service is awful. I've also noticed that UNLESS I order at the sushi bar, they screw up my order. The prices are so-so, sushi is OK but nothing to write home about. Big pet peeve about this place: they try to force "per person" minimums even when they're totally dead and a great deal of money is being spent there. I've gone a few times with groups, where one person didn't like sushi and didn't order... even though the party as a whole spent tons of $$, we got horrible attitude and service, and they tried to force that person to order $10 min. of sushi.
