Yum, delicious gyros and other Turkish delights. I had the Adana Kebab Wrap and it was delicious and filling. Other dishes at he table were gyro plate and wrap and both were tasty, as was the falafel. Great baklava--homemade too! I went with a Turkish friend who swears by this place.

I remember going to Ebisu as one of my first sushi experiences more than 10 years ago. At the time, I thought it expensive (I was a student at the time) albeit tasty. I just recently went back and was reminded why it's expensive. It's delicious...and certainly not the most expensive! If you sit at the bar you get and experience and the sushi chefs will continue to make things for you as your palate desires more. You never have to order more than one thing at a time and the recommendations from the chefs are always stellar. Yum, yum, yum. Definitely a reason this place is so talked about!

Like others have mentioned, the firecracker ball rocks! fried goodness. The sushi was OK, but a little too California-ized for me. Everything had a sauce or a different flavor that seemed to mask the natural flavors. For example, Cherry Blossom rolls are one of my favorites and this one seemed to have pesto on top. hmmmm....
The place is cute, the service is good, but the real reason to go is the Happy Hour: 50% off all rolls and beer before 7pm.

I don't like thick crust pizza (or so I thought), but Zachary's is so tasty. How is that? I'm not sure that I can explain the phenomenon but I do know that if I want pizza, I don't think of Zachary's but anytime I've had Zachary's pizza (usually someone else has ordered it) I think it is super tasty. Their toppings (or are they considered fillings) must be super high quality and their sauce is really good because the two times I've had it, I think hmmmmmm...maybe I DO like deep dish pizza. Anyhow, check it out, even if you think deep dish pizza belongs in Chicago. It's worth it.

I was at Giorgio's the other night (the first time in probably a year) and thought, wow, this place is such a gem. When I got back to my computer and looked on sfsurvey I couldn't believe I forgot to write a a review. Giorgio's rocks! Being from NY originally, I'm big pizza critic, and Giorgio's does it all right! From the charming decor (red/white checked tablecloths and votive candles), friendly staff right down to the absolutely yummy pizza. The crust is just chewy enough, but strays from being deep dish. The house salad and anti pasta (a house salad with meat, cheese, olives and pepperocini on the side) are delicious. I've never tried the other pasta dishes but everything looks great. Giorgio's is a perfect place to have a beer and pizza night with friends or to bring the entire family--it's very kid friendly. In fact, I used to baby sit a 2 year old who went through a phase where he would only eat Giorgio's pizza. So his frustrated mom would often send us over for lunch. Anyhow, c

What a great new gem in the rough. If you get tired of pho in "Little Saigon", check out this darling new Turkish restaurant on Larkin street. It's very tastefully decorated and cozy inside. The service is excellent-our server was a very charming young Turk, willing to talk about just about anything. Very fun. The food was delicious. We started with a combo appetizer plate which was delicious! All of the meat, including the donner, was fresh and tasty. They had a pretty reasonable wine list too. We had a delicious dessert too--I forget what it's called but it's a filo-type pastry with melted cheese inside and topped with a sweet, pistachio sauce. MMMMM.... Well worth trying out. Especially since A La Turca switched chefs and has gone way down hill.

Although I am unable to comment on the venue, my workplace gets catering from Comforts often. YUM! The Chinese Chicken Salad is fantastic. The dressing is tangy and sweet but not overwhelming. I also like the black bean salad. My favorite hot entrees are the Chicken Potpie. I think they might add coconut milk, b/c it's creamy and delicious but with a hint of exotic flavor. I also like the Butternut Squash Cannelloni. Comforts has great baked goods too--the mini tarts are wonderful as are the brownies. It truly lives up to it's name of Comforts. Ugh! I love the salads and sandwiches but the Marina location is chaos and I always leave frazzled. Not worth the choose your salad bar! It's always very crowded and the layout of the place is not conducive to crowds. Getting water you have to budge through hungry diners waiting to order. The tables are on top of eachpther and often if you don't stake out a table as you walk in your stuck with a plate of food and no where to site once you've order, paid and are now ready t eat. Our server was very attentive (but not overbearing) and she even went back to the kitchen to fully differentiate between a veloute and a bisque. We tried 2 soups, both delicious. I had heard (and read) really great things about this place but I don't think it lived up to the hype. Tall boys of red stripe are pretty fun, although part of the fun of red stripe is holding the little rounded bottle. The food was ok, not all that great, and certainly not worth the price. They have 5 standard main dishes on the menu, one being fish and chips, and they didn't even have fish and chips. I had the prawns and polenta special of the night and it was tasty, but not $19 tasty. The atmosphere is cute, the servers amiable, but all in I really can't rave about this place.

As a server I would dread a table with a big group but the servers at our tables were great! We had wine and appertizers in no time and they got all of orders right on. I tried the salmone (with veggies and linguine in a lemon wine sauce) and it was delicious!! The dinner was a success and everyone was pleased with their meal and the service. I really wanted to like this place! I think Burma Superstar gets way too much hype.
But, unfortunately, I was not impressed. First, our server was curt and anxious. She honestly made me feel anxious as she would ask to take away a dish as I approached the last forkful of various di
shes. She also would abruptly throw new dishes on our table. We had the tea leaf salad, mango and prawns and lamb curry. All of it was just ok. The prawns were tasty but slightly greasy.
We ended with a strange dessert--the orange sticks (for lack of a better description). Theye were tapioca and coconut based (both of which I love) but was just lacking in flavor and the texture was odd.
I probably will not go to Manadalay again...maybe I'm just not meant for Burmese food.

I love tapas but am always disappointed at tapas places in the US. I was trained to eat free bar food in the motherland of Spain (I know many of you are thinking, stop whining, you're not there anymore!) but I just think charging $7+ for a wedge of Spanish tortilla (eggs, potatoes, onions) is highway robbery. The reason tapas are free or cheap bar food is b/c they are inexpensive to make. I guess you could argue jamon serrano, etc has to be imported so there's more cost. Anyhow, I'll get off my soapbox. This place can be fun for a work function or for a group but is usually overcrowded and not all that great.

Grilly's is great. It's a perfect stop on the way back from a hike at Mt. Tam or a day at Stinson Beach (turn left at Tam Junction and continue on Miller Ave. 2 blocks past Tam HS). Most recently I tried the pork tacos which which were really good. It was chunks of pork sauteed in a chile sauce. My favorite burrito is the Chicken Mango (formerly known as the 'slim jim' because it is a lower fat option). It has grilled chicken, fresh mango salsa, roasted vegetables and brown rice. I have an update to my previous review thanks to the meal I won from SF Survey. I have been to this place several (5) times since their opening and no experience has been as good as the first--the first was out of this world. Everything is still tasty but not as over the top as before. Last night Jenny was not the server and our server was not as attentive as Jenny has been. The chef still sends out compliementary appetizers--this time tempura fried calamari--and fruit at the end. All in all, the meal was ok and I'll be back, but if I were not a Richmond dweller I'm not sure I would go back.

Some complain that Tartine is too rich. It's French--It's supposed to be rich. I had the best Ham and Cheese Croissant from Tartine. It's huge...so if you don't want a million calories you can split it with someone...but it's stuffed with ham and gruyere cheese. This place was pretty good overall. The food was good, but definitely not as tasty as my favorite, A la Turca. But, unlike A La Turca, Troya has great atmosphere, a lengthier wine list and a little more formality. We had the appetizer platter, the yogurt dip and the beyti and gyro plate. The Beyti was good but not succulent, the gyro plate was tasty, with fresh salad and tangy yogurt sauce. We also had the rice pudding which was delicious, with a caramelized, creme brulee type topping. I enjoyed my experience here but am not dying to get there again.

Wow! I had an exceptional meal this evening at Gary Danko. This place does an amazing job of making every detail special without being snooty. It is definitely pricey but so worth it. I had 3 courses, which is plenty of food but there are so many delicious sounding dishes on the menu it was hard to narrow it down. The meal starts out with a taste of foie gras 'to open our palate' and it does just that. The servers are great at suggesting wines that complement your food well (and not just the most expensive wine on the menu). I had 3 courses + 2 glasses of wine, my boyfriend had 4 +2 glasses of wine and our bill was around $230 (pre tip). All dishes and wines were exquisite. Other important details: they brought out a plate of mini-pastries and desserts and since it was my birthday they added wrote Happy Birthday on the plate. Tuesday, 5/23/06. I loved my experience at Delfina Pizzeria. The food was delicious, the atmosphere contemporary yet casual, and I guess the service could be described the same way. Brian, our server, was very knowledgable about the menu and described the wines and specialty menu items expertly without condescension. The broccoli rabe and asparagus appetizers were delicious. We had a nightly special pizza with mushrooms on a white sauce which was good but I prefer red sauce pizzas. Despite what others have said, I think the crust is perfect. It's think thin enough but with something to chew on. For dessert we had a canolli (sp.) and a lemon tart. The lemon tart melts in your mouth--the perfect balance between creaminess, tartness from the lemon and textures.

The Pacific Cafe is a timeless treasure. The dishes are basic but reliably good and fresh. Very hearty portions of fish with a choice of sides: boiled red potatoes, steak-cut fries, rice pilaf and a choice of shrimp louie salad or soup for a starter. The Parmesan crusted halibut is delicious and occasionally they have a delicious stuffed trout. There's a fantastic Irish server who has been there for years and she'll never steer you wrong if you ask her for a recommendation. Oh, and the icing on the cake is the wine while you wait. Not the finest, but hey, it's free and there's nothing better than a chilled white wine while braving the weather of the Outer Richmond. The decor is warm--dark wood, orangey walls--very cozy.

Hmm, other than the yummy chips and salsa, this place is lacking. The frozen margaritas are like slushies (no alcohol!) and I never understand how you can pay $15+ for a mediocre meal when you can get delicious Mexican food in San Francisco for far less. But, Chevy's is a chain, and as far as those goes, it's not the worst.

This place is great. Everything I've tasted is delicious. The pide is great, as is the kofte and number #54 (I think it's called Beyti or something). It's ground lamb wrapped in flatbread and sliced and served with a spicy red butter sauce and a garlic yogurt sauce. I go with a Turkish friend who loves to go here whenever he's homesick. It's authentic.

The first time I went to PJ's (about 7 years agO) I raved about this place. But since then either my palate has evolved or this place has gone downhill. The jambalaya was bland, the service poor, and the ambience not as fun as I had remembered. I don't think I'll go back anytime soon.

This place is pretty good and the tapas are authentically Spanish. I don't ever remember paying $7 for a small wedge of tortilla espanola in Spain, but whatever, we're not in Spain. The tortilla is great, the champinones a la plancha delicious. It's definitely noisy and a couple of times I've been upstairs with a group and it gets really hot up there! Wear layers.

This place is always better after some sangria and a red Stripe or two. It has a fun, but noisy, atmosphere and other than the plantains with black bean sauce, the food is pretty bad. The calamari is served in a puddle of grease which tastes like bacon. I like bacon, just don't like my calamari fried in it. All in all ChaCHaCHa is fun but considering we live in San Francisco, it should try harder.

When I lived nearby I ordered from Yummy Yummy multiple times a week. The owners would joke that I needed a back entrance directly to the kitchen. The special grill options are delicious, especially the grilled pork. Their pho tai has been my 'chicken soup' when I get sick. It works better than chicken soup. It has become quite popular over the years and although it's not expensive they seem to raise their prices every 6 months now (The pho used to be 4.75 and now it's 6.50). Still good but no longer a staple.

Fantastic choose-your-ingredients salad bar. The toppings are always tasty and you let them know how much or little dressing you'd like. You can get the salad topped with flank steak or grilled chicken. Delicious. I actually go here a lot because it's the fastfood version of sushi--fast, inexpensive. But, by no means is it remarkably good sushi. The down side is that you basically sit on top of the neighboring table, but the food and wine are delicious. It was a very pleasurable meal, except for the end when one of the neighboring guests moved and hit my wine glass, throwing my wine. The server apologized but instead of automatically replacing my wine asked me if I would like a new glass. I thought that was a bit odd. But despite this the food was delicious and the crowd fun--I recommend Limon to anyone who likes Peruvian/Latin flavors!

Ok food, great place to sit and enjoy a beer on a rare, sunny day on Ocean Beach. The service is not great and a group I was with was asked to leave on a Wednesday night at 8:30 pm because they decided there weren't enough people to stay open. Not cool! This is one of my favorite SF restaurants! First, the ambiance. Comfy booths, Moroccan-style tables and furniture, perfect lighting. Very romantic and cozy. The service is generally great, although 1 out of my 5 times there I had a very odd overbearing waiter. I have gone to Aziza for just appetizers and cocktails, full meal, and the prix fixe and depending on your mood, all very workable options. Of the cocktails, the cilantro limeade is amazing. I have been trying to replicate it at home without success. The wine by the glass selection is limited but OK. But the dishes are amazing. The Mediterranean spreads with grilled flatbread is by far my favorite appetizer. The basteeya (chicken filled pastry),one of the courses in the prix fixe, is also quite tasty. My favorite entrees are the prawns tangine and the stewed lamb and eggplant. The prix fixe is a great option for a tasting menu and is really fun but a lot of food. Have them wrap up parts of each so you can enjoy each course!

This place feels like Italy. The small, informal room is so cute and cozy. The pizzas are delicious and taste like authentic Italian thin-crust pizza. It's a bit pricey for what it is but definitely an experience. We sat at the bar and were able to see the whole pizza making process. The staff were very hip and cool but funny and attentive. 2 pizzas, a cheese plate and a bottle of wine came to about $60.

I try hard to like this place but despite its stellar location the Beach (and Park) Chalet is iffy at best. The food is ok. The fish and chips are really good! The service is extremely inconsistent, usually some form of horrible. One night my boyfriend and I went on a date there and waited 30 minutes to get our first drink, another 15 to before we placed our order and 45 min after placing the order our waiter had messed up and didn't place the steak order. All in all it took about 90 minutes to get 1 round of drinks and some bread. The only consolation that evening was that when we spoke to the manager he was embarrassed and told us to come back for a complimentary meal. Other times while at the Park Chalet for drinks we've been told we have to leave because there weren't enough patrons in there. This place has such potential and I like to support local Richmond District businesses but it is clear they plan on the tourist business (i.e. not repeat customers) keeping them alive.
