Neutral Good sushi but I think the trendy ambiance makes them think they can charge more for the same thing you can get for 25% less anywhere else. The cocktails are overpriced and they are greedy with the alcohol. I'd go back if invited by friends, but probably not on my own. Review #17798 Tokyo Go Go

Negative Food is overrated, the whole experience overpriced given the crappy service. Expect much attitude if you are a large group that "overstays its welcome" and if you are a small group that the waitress won't make much money on. Review #16919 Cha Cha Cha

Positive Hands down my favorite Latino restaurant in the Mission. The pupusa rock, the seafood is great, and it's cheap. Plus big 40 oz. Salvadoran beers served in plastic cups...how can you go wrong. Oh...and CHEAP! Can't say enough good things about this place. Review #16918 El Zocalo

Negative Oops! This used to be one of my favorite restaurants until last Saturday. The food was fine, but I have just one thing to say: FOOD POISONING. Not just me, both me and my companion. We shared the carpaccio and tick tock, a few hours later we both had all the symptoms. Tiramisu cost us around $95 for dinner for two, one sleepless night, one missed day of work and one trip to the doctor. And to boot, the service (normally passable) SUCKED. I had to ask three times for water and the waiter ignored us after he brought us our food. The place was so packed (testament to the fact that the food is normally really good) so conversation was impossible due to the noise. Review #16917 CafeTiramisu

Positive I used to live in the neighborhood and tried this place a few times. It's the closest sushi place around (top of Nob Hill) and it's standard, good sushi. Don't expect to be wowed but there's nothing to complain about here. The food is good, the service is nice and it's close by. Not a place anyone from other neighborhoods would flock to, but it serves its purpose of being a good neighborhood sushi joint. Review #16864 Sushi Rapture

Positive A traveling salesperson trying to score an account with me offered up a dozen Beard Papa treats as a bribe. He didn't get the account, but I got my fix. The cream puff are (and this is coming from someone who previously hated cream puffs) OFF THE HOOK, as is the chocolate cake. And the bizarre name and logo cannot be beat. They only add to the appeal. Review #16863 Beard Papa

Positive Okay, Chevy's IS what it IS. It's not authentic. It's not meant to be. It's cheesy and contrived. That's the point. It's a great place to get a too sweet margarita, get full on chips and salsa, then eat something drowned in cheese. That's the point. Review #16862 Chevy's Fresh Mex

Positive Solid burgers, and a great chii dog! I also appreciate that they have beer on tap. Conveniently located at N Judah stop at Carl and Cole, the other locations are equally accessible. There's one near the cable car crossing at Columbus and Mason, then another where the J Church and 22 Fillmore stop on Church near the Safeway. Yummy and convenient! Review #16860 Burgermeister

Positive Never been to the other location, but order from the Marina Orgasmica (note: do NOT go there after the clubs close on weekends or you're in for an annoying wait with annoying people). This is the best pizzeria in town in my opinion, along with Golden Boy. The combinations are incredible and innovative, but the crust is what wins you over. It's just not like any other pizza crust in the city. I love the Kama Sutra and the Adam and Eve pizzas. With each delivery they give you a magnet...collect 10 and you get a free pizza! Highly recommended. Review #16847 Pizza Orgasmica

Positive One of the only authentic Mexican restaurants I've visited, and one of the only decent restaurants in the neighborhood. The tequila list is mind boggling...and that's a good thing! Killer carnitas are the best thing on the menu. Great service, prices are reasonable, and great flavor. Oh, great homemade tortillas and guacamole. Review #16846 Colibri Mexican Bistro

Neutral I agree with the previous reviewer. This place is for big groups. Unfortunately, it doesn't have much more to offer. The food is your standard tomato sauce based Italian American stuff, so don't go expecting Mario Batali. The thing is that Bucca doesn't pretend to be that, so those who go in and see the decor know that immediately. Stay away from the house wine...headache city! I'd recommend this place for a cheap office party but nothing else. Review #16845 Buca di Beppo

Positive I can't say enough good things about this place. The pizza is fabulous, so is the eggplant parmagiana, the friday sandwich special (fish), the hamburger on baguette, and most of all the fusilli. it's off the hook! great beer selection, the house red isn't bad, and best of all: THE GINGER CAKE! get it, you won't be disappointed. Positive I'm really surprised at the neutral reviews. I live a block away, and I, too, was skeptical about dishing out the dollars for a breakfast that is more expensive because there are so many tourists in the neighborhood. But, I tried it because I had heard so many great things that ended up to be true. The mini pancakes are off the hook, and while not cheap, the serving is huge and can be split between two people with a side of sausage or something. Brave the line and try it at least once. Like Dottie's, you'll need to go later than you want to avoid waiting over an hour. Great service too! Review #16641 Sears Fine Foods

Positive The line around the block dodging crack fiends is worth it, and if you are meeting someone gives you a chance to catch up as well as comiserate with the strangers who are also braving the (almost) unbearable wait. Go AFTER the rush, meaning get breakfast for lunch. Suggestions: jalapeno corn bread and the black bean cakes. I met the owner at a party once and he's a really nice guy...he is behind the stove at all times. Review #16633 Dottie's True Blue Cafe

Negative Totally agree with the last reviewer. How is it someone that loves garlic can despise a garlic restaurant? The answer is that the food is really bad. I can't help but think that at one time this place had some decent dishes (due to its success) but that just isn't the case anymore. The service is rushed due to the crowds and crowds of tourists who flock there. I left here feeling like a schmuck: an SF local who fell straight into a tourist trap. Review #16627 Stinking Rose

Positive On the very cusp of Chinatown, on its border with North Beach, you'll find two lonely Italian businesses: a shop selling Italian books and other products, and Firenze by Night. When I first went to Firenze with a friend who is good friends with the owner, I was skeptical. The decor is kitsch, and being so close to the tourist trap restaurants, I didn't know what to expect. But I was more than pleasantly surprised to find that the food is AUTHENTIC. The owner is old school Italian and the place is run by him and his sons. They even make their own limoncello in the basement. To top it all off, the full bar is tended by a very nice guy who will make anything you want and not complain when you are tanked and reluctant to leave at 3 a.m. Highly recommended. Neutral This place has good enough food, but it's really nothing to write home about and as varied as Vietnamese food is, I didn't see so many things I consider standard on the menu. The decor looks like it's past its prime. Prices are reasonable, but with all the other great food in the neighborhood I probably wouldn't go back. Review #16624 Aux Delices

Positive Chai Yo was recommended to a friend of mine who gets takeout from there every week. It's SO affordable yet you don't sacrifice flavor or portion size, or authenticity because of it. I love the tofu and eggplant, but just about anything you order is going to be great, and best of all, fresh and not greasy. The service is very attentive and friendly, and they even have a dessert restaurant next door. My only complaint is that the main restaurant is a bit too small. Review #16623 Chai Yo

Positive Great fresh pasta (the penne in vodka sauce is a personal fave), wonderful thin crust pizza, and a good wine list make this place a staple for me in a part of Nob Hill where good restaurants are few and far between. The brunch is also excellent. For brunch or dinner, be prepared to wait, as this place is small. Go enough times and you'll be sure to encounter the San Francisco old lady twins! Positive I used to live in the Marina and ate at this place like 3 times a week, back when it was called Soku's. The owner and his wife are awesome, the food is solidly good and above all it is affordable. They even do brown rice rolls for the carb-concious. Oh, and the miso is off the hook. Positive This place is amazing, and it's amazing what they do without a stove and only an oven. Don't get this place wrong, it's not a North Beach tourist trap (even though its surrounded by them) so don't go expecting some terrible tomato sauce coated creations here. This is real Italian. Positive The seafood was great, but there were two things I would change to make this restaurant perfect: TAKE THE SMOKY FLAVOR DOWN A NOTCH. Not everything has to taste smoky. (Smoky tomato-based broth is nice, but these folks overdo it.) And get some waiters who don't look at you like you are crazy when you ask them for some more wine for that glass that's been empty for like 45 minutes. Good poke! Positive If you think Spanish food is cheap sangrĂa and pre-fab paella, this isn't the place for you. If you know Catalan cuisine and appreciate (or are willing to expand your horizons and try something new) this is the best place I've been outside of Barcelona. The Zarzuela is awesome, as is the the cod with samfaina. There is a really nice Argentine waiter who will walk you through everything is you are unfamiliar. Only downside is that on weekend nights the place is packed, and the noise level is atrocious. Review #16542 B44 Catalan Bistro

Positive I go to the new location on Pine and Grant (near the Financial District and Chinatown) and I have to say to all of you naysayers, give this location a chance. Maybe it's because it's less crowded, but the wait staff is super attentive and the sushi is fabulous. You can't beat the free miso and seaweed salad. Plus lunch is cheap, as is Happy Hour. A great place to go after work for a few Sapporos too. Review #16541 Sushi Rock
