“ The Schnitzelhaus is the one and only german restaurant that I've eaten at in SF. The food to me is pretty average. They aren't very complex, by any means. I've had the weiner schnitzel and the pork roast, and found both to be ok, though the beer at this place ROCKS! I was having dinner on a Friday night with friends, and the music was so loud that we couldnt hear eachother. ”

“
Overall, I like this place. But! Lots of buts. I really, really love the cheese spaetzle. And I like their gigantic crunchy potato pancakes. But I don't much love anything else. And the wait staff are strange! Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing. But the guy did yell at me once for having attempted to order in german, and it sounding wrong and me getting the wrong thing (Which, it being a schnitzel and made of meat, and me vegetarian and wanting the spaetzel... I really couldn't keep). The girl played good cop that night. Often they are both fairly dour. And it's a bit pricey given the overall quality. We used to go often, but after getting yelled at, it's become a bit of a rare choice. ”

“ I organized a group event at this restaurant because Suppenkuche is not open for lunch on weekdays. After reading some of the reviews about this restaurant, I thought it would as good as Suppenkuche but I was a little disappointed. The food was okay. Some of my co-workers had the Wiener Schnitzel and they found it a little too oily. I had their Knackwurste with lentils and spatzle which I think the lentils was a little sour for my taste. I like the homey feeling about this place but I was a little turned off when our waitress scolded our group for missing our reservation leading to our waitress to have to miss her lunch break. ”

“ Been in SF for 3 years now and have been to the other 2 german restaurants. Schnitzelhaus is my favorite german restaurant . The interior is full of light wood and warm feeling. The staff is courteous and the wait for food is reasonable for this quality. The sausages are tender and tastey; the lentils are good too. The Spatzle was good as well. On my next trip there I will have to try the jagerschnitzel. Treat yourself to the dark german bier; it has a chocolately taste and tiny carbonation. Yummy. Lunch is served only on fridays so you will have to wait.

“ Loved the feeling of this place, very authentic with pretzels on the wall and old pictures. Service was not the most friendly and not very attentive, but the beer was GREAT, the food was VERY tasty, the schnitzel and spatezel was delicious, the potato soup was good, and there was a nice crowd there with an intimate feeling. A little pricey (16-18 for dinner dish). We got two full meals and 3 beers: $70 meal. We had such a great time there, and if you don't take the service personal, and want some home cooked tasting food and a great selection of german Beers on tap, this place was great. We are looking forward to going back there (when we can afford it). ”

“ My favorite schnitzel in the city, for years. Beer is always fresh, and all the food tastes home-made. Schnitzel is crisp & not rubbery (no wonder, as I think the owner is from Vienna). Highly recommend eating & drinking here. Don't forget the Underberg digestif! ”

“ I happened to be in the area and saw Schnitzelhaus and decided to try it with the GF. Poor decision. The wait for a table is outside as they don't have a bar, but the the most disappoiting aspect is the service and the food. The service was poor, but the food was poorer. I rarely give negative reviews, but I was so diappointed with the overall experience that I felt I needed to recap for our fellow foodies. The potato soup was seriously underflavored and uninspired, the brats and schnitzel that we ordered was so mediocre, that I was dreaming of the wonderful sausage and pretzels that I could have had @ Postrios for less..for LESS. The brats were bland, I've had better from Johnsonvilles. They also close early as a couple walked in from Walnut Creek @ 9:40 pm to dine, and they were advised that the kitchen was closed although the hours of operation clearly state 10:00 pm. They were offered the lousy potato soup and the option of the german chocolate cake..they got off easy. ”

“ ARRRGH, i just wrote a LONG review and it got deleted...so i dont have the time to do it all over. I WANTED to like this place...seemd cute and only german food...it had to be good. I have spent a lot of time in germany and thier food isn't fancy...but there is no better place for sausage , saurkraut & schnitzel. Unfortunetly this wasn't one of them. Tried the jagerschnitzel and geraucherte brats. Both were very underwhelming. THe saurkraut wasn;t sour at all, kinda oily, the schnitzel was overcooked and BLAH, the red cabbage was tasty...the beer was FABULOUS, the wine was not, the potato soup was OK...the rye bread & flavoured butter was good. I might have just caught them on an off night---but I won't be back. ANd i have to saay for the price the plates were not very large---unusual for german food ”

“ Careening off the 8th ST off ramp from Oakland, my buddy suggested we grab some lunch since it was getting about noon. As we came up 9th there just happened to be a space in front of a strange looking hole in the wall called Schnitzelhaus.
I bet my friend that we could grab some really great german food, which would make our faces swell up like Gen. Burkhalter on Hogan’s Heros. Talk about sausage heaven, they have little ones, big ones, greasy ones, skinny ones,AND on 9th street! Now that’s a coincidence. The prices are moderate +, but well worth it considering the kilos of food you forced to eat. The fun crowd inside looks like a crew of locals, all enjoying too many bruskies! My vienerschnitzel was tender and juicy and the knockwurst was juicy and plump. (sounds like a description of the waitress) Great beer selections in several bucket sizes. Be sure and save room for the strudel! If driving up 9th again during lunch, I would stop here again, it was kind of fun haus!
