“ Great location, great interior, terrible service, and the chef ( or the waiter ) apparently doesn't not understand the temperatures of meat. Our appetizers were serve with our main course and the steak temperatures were no where near what we ordered. All the waiter could say is "I feel guilty". One steak was taken back 3 times. It's too bad... when you plan a night out with out of town people and pay a lot for a bad service and raw meat. The place could be the best in the area... but they are missing professionalism. Go, but be very specific in your order.

“ I had a great experience at El Raigon, but maybe because it was a group/family style setting. We had a large group so were given the downstairs room all night. For large groups they serve family style so we didn't have to worry about ordering, and the food came out very promptly which was a surprise seeing the size of their kitchen. We were given multiple servings of 4-5 appetizers, 2 kinds of salad, 3 kinds of steak with 3 sides, and dessert. It was a ton of food, and everything was great. I appreciated getting to try so many different things. I would probably only go back if it was in a group setting like this, because it is expensive and I would rather get a little of everything than just a few things for $40.

“ Had very high expectations for this place, went on my birthday last year, totally disappointed. I'm not sure which restaurant M. Bauer reviewed, certainly not the one I ate at. Tiny portions, unexceptional quality, service was amateurish at best (and at times completely incompetent). My dad came from Argentina, I know what the dinner should have tasted like, THAT WAS NOT IT. Went once again more recently with some Argentinean friends who insisted we go there--my experience was even worse. Will not go again. The owners should fly to NYC and eat at the Chimichurri Grill to see what a real Argentinean steakhouse is like. I mean it, if they could duplicate that dining experience, I'd eat there every week. ”

“ I was so disappointed after going to this place. The waiter was very good, but the helpers kept trying to pull the plate out from under you while you were still eating. I was talked into the flank steak by the waiter and it was tough as I expected. My friend ordered the short ribs and I'm so glad I didn't get that one! There was gristle and fat on the ribs and it was tasteless. I was dying for some A1 steak sauce! The best part was the mashed potatoes and spinach. I would definitely not return here and I'll stick to Morton's for good steaks. ”

“ El Raigon is a beef lover's delight where beef from Montana is on the menu. Having been born & raised in Montana, I was especially keen to try their charcoal-broiled steaks. They are SUCCULENT. I found everything delicious here, from the Gambas appetizer, the arrugula salad, the garlic spinach side and the steaks are, well, steak-of-the-art. The location in North Beach is superb; the service is appealingly warm; the unusual, unique argentinian wines a delight, especially the marvelous red Crios Cabernet thick like oxblood. All in all, a delightful dining experience: Steak-of-the-Art, Scintillating Steaks, Xenophile's delight

“ Excellent simple but tasty food. Real Argentine dishes, like provoleta and mollejas. The steaks are outstanding especially if you order them medium. The beef is flown in from Uruguay! Do not expect big fatty corn fed beef, go to an American steakhouse for that. Grass fed is smaller, leaner and tastier. Loved the arugula salad, and the grilled asparagus. Best selection of Argentine Malbecs. The desserts are to die for. ”

“ The quality of the beef is fine here, but the room is noisy, the prices are high, the wine list is limited at best, the valet parking is a joke (shlep three blocks of hills to pay $8 for the honor of valet parking somewhere else - there's a garage just a few blocks further), and the service is deplorable - the waitstaff is untrained, to the point they don't understand the distinction between medium and medium well, the bussers don't understand simple instructions, and the "hostess" is so self-important you'd think she was a 10-year old asked by mommy to hang the coats at the grown-up party, that is, until she got just outright offensive. Stroll down the street and have gelato - you'll have a better experience. ”

“ Argentine steakhouse, with smoked dishes prepared in a unique style. Flavorfull beef dishes. Cozy atmoshphere. Good Service. argentinian Ribs are very good, as well as excellent steaks cooked to order. All ala carte, so be prepared to order side dishes of vegetables or potatoes, and/or salad. Not included with main courses. Not easy to find parking near this restaurant. Exelente che. ”

“ This is the best steakhouse in SF. Only place that doesn't serve steaks that necessitate an immediate nap. Breaks the mold of heavy, dusty old, dimly-lit, burgundy carpeted steakhouses in an interesting way. Probably get better when (if) they can actually import Argentine beef in 2006. Meanwhile, the Montana Piedmontese is big step in the right direction from commodity prime & choice stuff everyone else (except maybe Acme Chophouse) serves. ”

“ “Oh you’re going to love this place!” My first question was, why an Argentinean steak house in North Beach? And what’s so Argentinean about a place that gets all their beef from Montana? I’m always hoping to get a steak done right, but that’s only at home! Why is it that I can cook a steak rare, and have it warm inside, unlike what I got here? Which was ice cold in the middle? After waiting for 5 minutes for the waiter to return, I politely asked if they could fix the steak rare and not have it ice cold in the middle. (Was it frozen, perhaps?) I should have just ordered the chicken at that moment, by experience the steak never returns done correctly! Usually coming back medium-well. The Halibut on the other hand was so dried out that no deluge of sauce would bring any moisture into it! It may have been an off night for the line cook but, there were other people in there that looked like they were satisfied with their food. So, sorry, no returns here! And, parking is a hassle! ”

“ I really wanted to love this place, so that I'd have a place to go to get steak like my dad grills, but it's just not outstanding. Good food, but not stellar, and quite expensive with relatively small portions. Years ago, there was another argentinian place in North Beach called Tango Grill which was much better. ”
