Good pizza, but not such a nice environment to hang out.

The best NEW YORK slice in the city.... I'm partial to the financial district location. Also try try the purity drink they have there. Review #13495

Great pizza if you get the cheese. I'm a big fan of toppings on pizza so I've tried several different varieties and it turns out the original is still the best-plain ol' cheese. Review #12710

Sitting on the counter under a glass protective shield was one of my favorite things ever on a pizza... roasted garlic potato pesto pizza. I am a big man, in my day could eat a 1/2 extra large pizza.... easy. I order two slices and thats it. Large and yum. I live down the road, probably 2 blocks away from the edge of their delivery zone. I ride a motorcycle, so carrying a pie back to Hayes Valley is not in the cards for me. So I have to show up and eat there.. its worth it. I have not tried anything other then the potato pesto garlic pizza. Why bother this is perfection. Review #12540

Its not NY, but its as close as your going to get in SF. For someone who has spent sometime in NY, I recommend it. Dont go there for the Pesto or Potato slices, or a combo. Thats not a NY style slice. Get the cheese or the Pepperoni. Reminds me of Joe's on W. 4th, though the slices are not as big. There is another place on Valencia and 16th that everyone claims is the best NY style slice. Its great if you like paper thin crust, but for a true NY slice, this place comes awful close. Just call me Mr Tourguide! Well right across the street here was Metz Superior Donuts, which had great glazed donuts that use to be 10 cent each. Two doors away from the old Haight Theater, so we stop here for a pizza! NY pizza, you got to be kidding! This isn?t even close to what I?ve had in NYC! This sauce they might even doctor up, out of#10 can, but doubt it! The crust was uneven, and bitter. The joint is dirty, but was close during the walking tour. The only good things here was the smelly bums in the walkway and sidewalk that hassled my friend from Kansas! Seems they don?t have that problem there! He wasn?t impressed with the pizza either, now that?s bad! Weird selection of pizzas! A potato pizza? Too much junk on the walls, they would have been better off to spend the money on training! What?s happened to my old Haight street? Amazing what 50 years will do! Next time we will go to Club pizza at Ashbury! Much better and cleaner! Review #7865

Yeah, I keep wanting that potato pesto slice to be everything it could be, but it's just not. Good for sopping up excess alcohol in the system, but in need of a more adventurous pesto, or something. Adding salt to a pizza should not have to be standard. Review #7858

I used to love her....but now I don't. For some reason (and I've tested this several times) the pizza is better when you go in and buy a slice as opposed to when you order a pizza to go or have it delivered. Not sure why! Service is less than desirable, but then again they have to deal with the incessant gutter punks and dirty hippies so...I forgive them. So stop on by for a quick slice of pie after the bars - but don't for delivery because (1) the to go and delivery pizza's are really expensive and (2) they don't give the delivery pizzas enough TLC. Yup. Review #7760

Fabulous slices. Yummy, vegetarian-friendly toppings. Also like the one on Castro Street. Prices are on the high side but the toppings and the cheese make it all worth it! Yum! Lots of little tables if I remember correctly. Would be cool if they added a longer table for groups. :) Review #7012

Pretty good for slices. I like it far better than fat slice and they always have a good variety for slices. You can tell them to heat the pizza as long as you want and they don't charge extra for to go boxes. Review #6935

I found the slice greasy and uninspired. I had heard great things so I went for 2 slices...the potato pesto which was better than the the combo. But, for a couple of bucks while shopping on Haight, no complaints. Grabbing a slice is one thing, buying a whole pie is another...and I don't see anyone buying whole pies here. Review #6176

Pretty decent NY style thin-crust pizza. Their potato, pesto, and garlic pizza was original. The place is kind of a dump, but what do you expect since it's on Haight. Review #4981

Very good fast food pizza sold by the slice. They offer the usual pizza standards as well as some gourmet slices including roasted potato & roasted garlic (whole clove) with Pesto. Draft & bottled beers available. Review #4957

Not the best pizza I've had, but I like the innovative Potato, Pesto, and Garlic pizza. The crust is not as thin as I would have liked it to be. It's one of those places where they warm up the pizza slice for you (since it's been out there for a while). The atmosphere is a little dark, but they have cool posters for you to look at. You should pick up a copy of SF Weekly, b/c they have a EFNY deal inside: slice of pizza and small drink for $3. Not a bad price at all. I would really like to try their "gourmet" slice (with sundried tomatoes and artichokes i believe.) Also, I would like to other EFNY locations. Review #4932

I like the atmosphere but the pizza ain't all that. I don't like most of the topping combinations and the slices never seem to have a fresh taste. Maybe its cause I'm from Chicago and not New York, but in my opinion, there's plenty of better slices out there. Review #4625

Ok, I grew up in New York (upstate), and like all New Yorkers, I am an authority on good pizza. ;) Seriously though, as far as I'm concerned, this is as close to a true New York slice as you can get in San Francisco. Don't bother buying a whole pie, a truly good slice needs to sit around for a while and then be warmed up before you eat it. I haven't been to the other Escape From NY locations, so I can't say how this one compares, but if you don't mind being asked about "green buds" by every third person on the street, then take a walk over there. It'll be a good slice, I promise. Oh...and don't bother with all those silly toppings - that's a California thing. Straight up cheese slice with red pepper flakes, baby! Review #4280
