“ We eat in or take out Asa at least once a week and (several times) as many as thrice a week. The salmon is deliCIOUS; buttery, creamy, smooth. Blue Fin O Toro is SUBLIME. Love the hamachi as well.
All the rolls are delicious and varied!
Favorite rolls: Red Dragon, 3 Amigos, WOW, Rainbow, OMG, Booty Booty, Spicy Double Hamachi, Super Unagi, Alaska.
Gyoza and oysters are a must try!
Servers are as nice as can be, attentive and fast. The owners are absolutely delightful. And totally kid friendly! How many restaurants encourage you to bring in your 3 children, all under 7, to dine??
As for the nationality of the owners... Why is THAT important?? We have eaten at plenty of excellent french restaurants in this city that do NOT have french chefs. Ditto italian.
Come on people this is America.
Discovered this gem this time last year. With all the sushi places in the city and even on the same street we always come back to Asa. Give them a try. It is like eating with dear old friends. ”

“ Very friendly service. Very good fish. I eat a lot of sushi and this place is great. The negative reviews sound like they are from competitors or they have an axe to grind. I've never experienced anything close to what they claim.
Try the OMG roll, double hamachi, spicy tuna (fresh and red, not white). Great atmosphere and service.
Try for yourself and post feedback here. ”

“ The place was wonderful. Go there every Friday. The service is great and the owners are too. Out of all the sushi restaurants I have been (San Jose and SF), I have to say this one tops them all. I specifically like how they marinade their tuna and salmon. And YES, they are from Japan. Some people really need to learn some manners when writing reviews. ”

“ I LOVE ASA sushi. I must say that I recommend their spicy tempura tuna and the questions on why it is pink and not red and why its sour is because of how they prepare it. (I asked the sushi chef) and because you are so rude as to accuse them of not being japanese THEY ARE! Why do I know this, because I befriended them after I started to come to their restaurant so often. They have even showed me how to make sushi. The reason why its "sour" is because you use sushi vinegar in the rice and you put something that looks like kelp on the fish in order to season it, along with salt and let it sit for a half an hour. Then you take all the stuff off and put it away and when you're ready to eat it (after the rice is done) then you do. And I would have to say its delicious because I've tried. I also recommend their Lion King roll, because EVERYWHERE that I've gone, its always like that (in the tin foil). I would like to say this is one of the best sushi restaurant's in the bay area. ”

“ Wasn't the best sushi I've ever had. We tried the Dragon roll, Lion King roll, and Rainbow roll. The dragon roll was like any other dragon roll but the Lion King roll (California roll topped with baked salmon and cheese) was not so good. It was stuck to the foil it came on and once I picked it up and tried to put it in my mouth, it just ALL fell apart! The rainbow roll only came with tuna and hamachi which other places offer it with salmon, avocado, and shrimp. But I thought the service was good. The waitress was really friendly and always made sure our hot tea was filled. ”

“ I have not seen a worser service and attitude elsewhere. I waited long time to get just drinks. Everybody knows that TUNA is always RED Color but this sushi restaurant serves PINK TUNA. I asked about food but answer was nothing! I think they are not japanese so they don't know japanese food. I agree that sushikiller tuna was sour, too.
This is not a place we ever would want to go again. ”

“ This is the worst sushi restaurant in SF.
The place hires women with long hair dangling over my sushi. One waitress was long chatting with sushi chef. Ramen was gross & terrible.(I think they cook TOP-RAMEN!!). Chicken teriyaki was completely flavorless, overcooked, dry and tough. Tuna sashimi was sour.
I will not spend the time again and just say this place sucked. ”
