This is a nice little home style russian restaurant. Piroshki, Pirogi and basic breakfasts....it's all good. Unpretencious and authentic. Sometimes I wish I was still in the neighborhood. Review #15707

i tried their poppy seed hamentaschen and my friend got a loaf of rye bread there, and each of us was really happy with what we got. the prices were decent and the rest of the food looked decadent. looking at their menu made me want to go back and try a sit down meal. the service at the bakery counter was fine. the lady was attentive and pleasant enough. hard to find a parking space there though. I tried Cinderella this afternoon following SF Weekly's positive review. I ordered the blinchiki with smoked salmon and baked spinach and feta piroshki. The dish came as two crepes and three fat strips of smoked salmon as well as a little dish of sour cream. It was very tasty if a tad greasy. The piroshki was very good. Cinderella's strength is in its desserts and the almond cake was as delicious as described in the SF Weekly review. The vatrushka (farmer's cheese cake) was good but Katia's across the street makes a better version. The service frankly was not up to standard. The waitress didn't even bring the complimentary house-made dark russian rye bread. This bread can be ordered by the loaf from the bakery half of Cinderella and I highly recommend it. Review #8619

If you wanted russian food 40 years ago, you would go to the Cinderella Bakery on Balboa at 6th. They are still there today. If you want the best store bought peroshki they have them! Get the fried vs. the baked with meat. They also have an assortment of deli items from salmon roe (caviar), smoked fish and pork holodetz which is an aspic. (with horseradish). The restaurant serves home style dishes like stroganoff, pelmeni, cabbage rolls and veal dishes. They all are good and plentiful servings. Prepare yourself to be questioned while ordering as some of the waitstaff is still working on their sentence structures. The Place always puts on a good meal like your russian grandmothers kitchen on holidays! The Bad thing here is that there is NO parking anywhere in site, since every home in the Richmond now has multifamilies with 20 cars each. I usually will park around Masonic and grab the bus. Prices are very reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food you will receive. Review #4138
