I had the food here a few times but it sure doesn't compare to the La Santaneca in Bernal Heights. Comparing the reviews I think most people are confusing the two restaurants. Plus from talking to different customers the original La Santaneca is the Bernal Heights. I even heard that the owners from the Bernal Heights were the original owners of the one 24th and mission. How many times have I walked right by this place?! This is my new favorite spot for pupusas! with cheese and loroco. And save room for the plantain empanda...mashed up sweet plantain wrapped around some kind of sweet creamy filling flavored with cinnamon and deep fried...ohhhh yes. The place is clean, the service is friendly and efficient, and the food is good. Even the refried bean were flavorful! The horchata, however, needs some work. Mine was watery and weird tasting. I'm still giving them a thumbs up though and hoping it was just a bad night for horchata. Review #9175

The pupusas and carnes might be the best in the city. There is so little that differentiates so many mexican/central american/south american places in the city that I can never remember one from the other. If I could, I'd have 10 more reviews on this thing...For me, there are two standouts--This place and another lunch only place on Mission...I need to head down there and find it... Review #7641

WOW! This is the spot to get papusas, tamals, I love their Guanbana shake. On weekends they have "Sopa de Res", Beef Soup, their shrimp soup is also excellent. This is a very popular restaurant, it should be larger to accommodate all their fans. But I would recommend this place to everyone. We frequently order large amounts of papusas for pick-up. Parking is neither hard or easy, there have been times we had to "look around", but generally there are spots across the street. Review #4357
