Chef Gia is located next door to House of Nanking and while the crowds flock to Nanking, the food is better at Chef Gia. Prices are cheap and service is good. So, don't wait in line at House of Nanking when you can go next door for better food and service. Review #20602

Positive Cuisine: Chinese Chinatown
Best hidden gem in Chinatown. Since I work in the Financial district, I dine here at least once a week for lunch. The place is runned by the husband and wife themselves, so unlike other restaurants in Chinatown, this place is kept clean, no sticky floors or tables. This place has good Hunan food with strong, wok-style flavor but without the extra oil you find in most other restaurants. My favorite is Spicy Fresh Garlic Beef (or chicken) which is slices of beef stir-fried with chopped leeks, onions and garlic. This dish is tasty and not oily. My other favorites are the Curry Chiken and Wonton soup. The portions are huge and most dishes are under $5. Review #16966

This is actually called Chef Jia's with a J. It is a colorful place with fast service. I had the lunch special which with soup and a drink was about $5-$6. I had hot n sour soup...and a dish made with fresh green beans, yams, and chicken. It was very good. They have specials on a chalk board on the wall. I hear the Honey Chili Chicken is a great choice..i'll be having that next. Review #14093

I tried this place after deciding not to queue up for HN. It's ok, similar to the place next door. If you don't want to queue up for Nangking, this place is as good. Review #9746

Although not as good as the restaurant next door, Gia's is still very good, and you won't have to wait in line. Review #8467
