Wandering down Powell we said , “let try this tourist trap”.. From the moment we walked in and were seated, we already knew we had made the wrong decision. The empty table, looked like it had been wiped clean with a grease incrusted rag leaving a trail of bread crumbs. When we pointed that out to our cheery waiter, he looked at us like we were speaking some foreign language. After wiping down the table, he threw a couple of menus and sashayed away for at least 10 minutes. Our calamari appetizer was ok, nothing great, but my clam linguine was inedible because of the amount of salt. It reminded me of the movie where someone had dropped a whole box of salt into the pot, I mentioned this and our waiter just shrugged his shoulders and left. We were given the bill, no credit, no apologies, nothing, disappointed; we paid, left a minimal tip and left knowing that they would not miss our business. I would think that they would know better, but I guess tourists don't return. Review #13249

I've eaten here 20 times. If I'm downtown and want italian, I come here. I've eaten solo at the bar and have had family dinners with 10 people crowded into the biggest booths. Food quality has always ranged from good to fantastic. A full on dinner with drinks, appetizers , main course, dessert, a bottle of medium priced usually costs $65 per person. It' not cheap, especially if you and your date are crammed into a small bistro table on the bar side. You feel a little more indulged if you get the back raised booth in the hotel lobby section. You'll need six in your party to qualify for that location. Ask your server for for the freshest fish and you'll get a great meal. Seasonal appetizers are always good palate teasers. The bar can be overcrowded mayhem at cocktail hour, and you have to push your way thru this crowd to reach the maitre d' podium. Push on through, it's worth the effort. Review #11975

I have been here a few times and it's been good every time. The Ceaser salad is unique in that they add chopped proscuitto I have only tried the Amatriciana as I love hot, spicy pasta. The sauce was thick, and has a good zip to it with the chili peppers. True, it is in a hotel, and is very touristy, but nothing I can really complain about. Review #8999

This is a good restaurant with professional staff. Sure there are tourists, but the bar brings its share of people who work downtown. It's a comfortable, unpretentious, mixed scene. Go if you're nearby. Review #8365

Seems better suited for tourists. Pick a place in North Beach if you want better italian food. Having a drink and an appetizer at the bar is fun.... Review #7259

I've been going to Kuletos for years, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Being located in Union Square makes it a tourist spot also, but the food is solid. The pastas are nice as well as the grilled meats. I think I like the good @ their Burlingame stand alone building location better, but it's worth checking out if you're in Union Square shopping. If you don't want a full meal, order a bunch of the small plates at the bar sipping on a couple chiantis. Review #6139

WELL..here i go ranting and raving..this place is GREAT! Yes just like Tony the Tiger says....GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAT!!!!! The food is wonderful, the ambiance is superb. From the minute you walk in thru the lobby...and walk into the restaurant you know that the dining experience will be amazing. The only drawback here is the girls that take your name or check on your reservation, lets just say could be viewed as rude!On 4 different occasions we have gone in and found them to be almost unbearable. One time I was ready to call on the manager, i then thought perhaps they are just having a bad day! If you are looking for amazing and superb seafood and steaks and italian fare..this is the place. I did not mind paying their fine prices, because it was an awesome meal, and it left me satisfied..with the intent to return again. This may not be the smartest and quietest place to take a date for a romantic dinner, but its super for business, families and a casual affair. Review #3581

Service is nice but can be slow. Probably popular with tourists with its Powell Street location. The food is not bad, although I enjoy the little street cafe they have better. Sorry, can't quite sqeak out the "positive" rating on this one. Review #3531

This is one of those places that has been there long enough to fall in and out of fashion. But I think it's nice and reliable with yummy italian inspired dishes. Great place to refuel after a long day of shopping. Review #3251

Prompt seating. Service is nice but can be slow when busy. Reservations is difficult to get. Prices range from affordable to pricey. The food took extremely long (45 mins for our group). And gratuity is added (18%) for groups of 5 or more (usually its 6-8). Review #2183

This is a nice place to bring out of towners on a show night. Ambience is nice and the dishes are quite lovely. It is in a splurge category but nice for a treat. I dined here with 3 of my sisters once and we were ALL happy, not an easy feat with 4 VERY different palates. Review #1849

Oh how I used to love to go there for the saffron seafood risotto with some glasses of wine....sigh...nothing like it after a good hearty day of shopping. Alas, the saffron-like risotto doesn't cut it. The seafood is skimpy. The bartenders are openly gay (no flirting for the straight girl here) and overall, it's like eat and get out! Before you buy another glass of $11 wine. My risotto is just as good-if not better and I use real saffron, umkay? If you are starving and downtown, try Blondies! Review #1569
