“
There's nothing terribly wrong with the Metro, but it also seems to fall short in many subtle ways. The endive/radicchio salad is a muddled hash. The mahi-mahi is underwhelming. The servers mean well, but they're stretched a bit thin. This place might be okay for bunch or lunch (I haven't been there for those meals), but for dinner there are better options for this kind of food at this kind of price. ”

“ A friend of mine used to be a chef here, so we dined at Metro Cafe a lot. The dish that stands out most in my mind is a salad with beet and goad cheese mold on it! So innovative and tasty! I like the space and do not find it too small. Great place to go if you wanna feel a little old school rock & roll. ”

“ Really one of the better little places in San Francisco, IMHO. I eat here when I'm in the mood for something comforting and fairly priced. They have a pretty good menu with some creative additions and specials added every night. Every time I've been there, they've been packed to the gills, so go early or go on a weekday, if you don't like crowds, like me.

“ Wow! It's amazing how a restaurant can get so many good reviews, then get one horrible one. I had a great experience at this restaurant, no rude waiter, no tough steak, frites were great, great price, good wine, etc. If you are going for the red wine, go for the Mulbec from Argentina, it was great and only $24! The Tarte was my favorite dessert.

“ go before 6:30pm and pay only $14 for a fixed 3-course meal that includes soup or salad, entree, and dessert. if you don't like thier selections, you can choose your own but pay a little more. suggestion, choose the soup over the salad--they are superb with just the right balance of a featured ingredient and cream. the entree portions looks smaller than what you may be used to but i'm always surprisingly satiated. as for the dessert, i've never been disappointed.

“ Metro is a great french bistro. french bistros serve homey food not high-end fancy french food. The price fixed is a great deal - soup or salad, entree (typically fish, chicken or pork) and dessert for $16! We typically take wine to a restaurant because most restaurants don't have reasonably priced good wine. Metro does have some decent wines these days but they are typically production wines. I have never had a bad meal here. Service is typically good up until it's time to give you the bill but you just have to get up and tell them that you want your bill if you don't want to sit around and chat for a while. ”

“ I found this place by accident, thinking was going to a burger joint a friend had mentioned. I realized I was in the wrong neighborhood, but it was brunch time and a french Bistro in front of me, so why not sample the Croque Madame? It was served with a little green salad on the side and was quite tasty. Bless their hearts, the wait staff was trying really hard, but with just two of them for the whole place, they were losing the battle. They were pleasant enough however. I don't know if I would make a special trip out of my hood to go here again, but it is a good place for those that live near. ”

“ Looking for a sumptuous brunch on a beautiful day? Try the Metro Cafe with their flowery backyard and delicious, french food. I esp. love their Mimosas, benedicts served w/sprightly salads and light, fluffy pomme daphines (which are a french type of popover made with cream-puff pastry dough and potato puree). For dinner, opt for their $15 early bird three course meal -- it's truly a treat! Before you go, know that the service is slooowww but friendly, and the parking is a hassle. ”

“ I recommend this place for lunch or brunch. If you are looking for a cute garden patio, you have found it. It is just in back. But do plan on staying a while as the service can sometimes be achingly slow. Ouch. ”

“ This restaurant is a wonderful treasure in the Western Addition! Check out the prix fixe, but if you're feeling adventurous don't limit yourself with this option. I recommend the mussels with the garlic broth. Brunch here is great,Croque monsieur or croque madame, and is even more fabulous if the weather cooperates and you can eat in their lovely garden. Eggs benedict, yummy! The owner is a cute, bald french guy, shades of Jean Luc - Engage! ”

“ I love this little restaurant. The prix fixe is a great deal. I believe it is $13 all night Sunday. Salad, entree and dessert. It is cute and cozy and the service is great. Good place when you want a nice dinner and don't want to spend a lot of money. ”

“ The restaurant is claustrophobically small, with no space between you and your neighbors. Nothing is private here. Food: I have not found anything to write home about other than a terrific blueberry creme brule (don't get the wierd mint brulee. YECH!). The Steak Frites is average, with the steak being on the tough side, ringed with gristle. A short rib dish was tender and delicious, but was just a bowl of meat. No vegetables to speak of. The selection of wines by the glass is uninspired and limited. The eggs benedict has day-glo hollandaise sauce. I ordered an omelette from the specials board; the ingrediants listed on the board didn't include mushrooms, but the omelette did. When I sent it back, none of the garnish (puff potatoes, salad) was on the plate and the cheese in the omelette hadn't melted. And the service: very french. Slow and Rude. Don't expect a quick brunch, and don't complain or the women will blame you for sitting in the garden. ”

“ Great little french bistro located right underneath The Metro Hotel. They have a great prix fixe $14-$16 for a 3 course meal. Yet, the real gem in my opinion is the wonderful garden in back. Enjoy, a leisurely breakfast while sipping on a mimosa and basking in the sun (well if you are lucky). ”
