Boudin Sourdough Bakery & Cafe, with us AAAAAAh, boudins. I think this boudins in downtown is unlike any other in that it really feels like a restaurant rather than a cafe like most. The food is good, but I would say it feels weird eating such average food in a nice booth. The price is a little high for just some clam chowder and bread over $8) but it is amongst the best in town. Nice place, not too good of pricing, decent service Review #19155

Has Boudin's lost touch with San Francisco? I remember a friend of mine heralding Boudin's years ago when she first moved here, while I still lived on the other coast. This chowder-in-a-bread-bowl staple doesn't really hold the torch for casual SF food like it once did, aside from having a marked presence in SFO airport (because sour dough bread is such a token souvenir? puh-lease). It's a strange set of circumstances, really. Boudin's is now a strong chain store, with locations in not only the airport, but also the malls, including Macy's downtown and Stonestown. The food is extremely consistent, fairly priced, and speedy. But when was the last time you ever heard of anyone eating there? Who ever suggests it? (I feel as if I am trying to talk myself into going there again!) And yet, it survives. The last time I went, sandwiches were decent, though the pizza was unspectacular and overpriced. It'll take me a little more time and some clam chowder to hash it over. Review #18501

One of the best run places downtown. They had our salads ready before we could even get our money out to pay! chinese Chicken and Chopped salads are my favorites. I like the clam chowder, but feel a little cheated when the bread soaks it all up. Review #15621

I love the salads here. I really like to sit outside when it's warm enough. Can get really busy at lunch, but I think it's worth it! Review #14829

I would give up half my fortune to bring back the old Larabaruu bakers soft french roll that had just the right springiness, but Boudin is a close runner up! These guys seem to have consistency down pat! What they also have down is profitability because for what they charge for a sandwich they are a little shy on the protein department (animal). The service is non negotiable, and the selection is adequate. Nothing special since they have multiple locations so you can consider this a chain, except the bread. If your timing is right you can pick some up to take home for the weekend. Parking, ha…… parking lots on Mission or walk….. A return , sure since I can't walk back far enough in time for Larabaruu bakers! Review #10772

Amazing sourdough, but that's a given...what's a pleasant surprise are the decent sandwiches and other baked pastries. It's crab season, so if your popping buttery bottle of chardonay with a couple crabs, it would be a crime not to have proper, tangy sourdough. Review #10713

I have only had their sourdough until this morning. We popped in for a quick snack before the Gay Pride Parade. The blueberry and cheese danish was very enjoyable and everything else looked very tempting. (Chocolate Chip Dipped Cookie next visit) Very friendly staff, will visit again. Review #7418

I had a raspberry & cheese Danish with coffee, which were both good. I was surprised on how clean the store is, which is great for us clean freaks :-) Review #7417
