“
Great Lunch...
Had Fire Fried Calamari - $10
Ponzu and Lemon Dressed Cucumbers, Toasted Garlic, Micro Cilantro, Tobasco Remoulade. It was Tastyrrrrr.
Also Sashimi Trio Salad - $15
Sliced Ahi, Hamachi, and Salmon, thai Black Sticky Rice, Fried Unagi, Avocado
Super fresh and recommended.
On a warm day they have outdoor seating on the bay which should be utilized. ”

“ Quaint little eatery with a cacophony of spinning flavors created by an offspring of a french thai italian mexican hawaiian personality disorder sadomasochistic garde manger wishing to impress and prove his worldly travels. Plate presentations conflict for dominace confuse and overwhelm the palate necessitating rapid multiple infusions of wine or premium spirits. The pinnacles of the dinner are the vistas of the airborne seagulls following commuters as they feast on a submarine and a beer. My rating should be positively neutral or neutrally positive, sadly there is nothing midpoint.

“ 7/07 Butterfly pairs uniquely with Slanted Door in cooking the best fusion food in SF. Chef Rob's modest use of asian ingredients is more for accenting than domination. $9-10: The Sonoma duck confit spring rolls were full of tastyr duck meat, with a fantastic mustard honey sauce. The pan fried Shanghai garlic noodles were flavored with hidden oyster sauce. The chunky tomato confit added a Sicilian taste to it. $26: The Niman Ranch grilled pork chop was a winner. The huge chop sat on Riesling braised cabbage and covered with pineapple & ham cubes -- hence “sweet & sour”. The noodle pudding on the side was filled with Spam (!) strips and covered with melted cheddar. Its amazing taste reminded me of lasagna. The Maine dayboat scallops (cut like butter) were seared with lobster demi glace and sat on a patch of pea/lemon/leek risotto (outdid italian). Mild orange and curry were used to “spice” up the food subtly. Great desserts, especially the bread pudding. Big portions & good service. 4* ”

“
Went for a holiday party and the food was pretty decent. I enjoyed the mini kobe beef sandwiches and the desserts. The sushi was just ehh, and some of the stuff seemed to taste and look like they were made with cheap ingredients. Overall, just ok, but I wouldn't go back if I had to pay. ”

“ Gorgeous view of the water (hence, the pricy meal). I'd recommend making a reservation for Sunday evening if you want to just go for the food and view. This place can get pretty loud and crazy on the weekends. Everything we ordered seemed to be very well done and very flavorful but I liked the Turmeric Grilled Snapper the best. A great place to bring out-of-townners.

“
The small plates are good and the waitstaff is nice. I've had a few work functions here and Rob has always been very accomodating and nice. The bartenders are great and interact with the customers. The ambiance is a little modern and loud since the space is so cavernous but it is still a fun place to go for a cool and hip dinner. ”

“ I have always wanted to go there, so I finally went. I had a good meal and a good time. We stayed at the bar after dinner and it was crowded that Saturday. I knew it turned to a night club at night but I didn't expect it to be that crowded. For the dinner, I had the Salmon & Strawberry salad for appetizer, sounded weird but it was good. The Chicken was not that great but since I was really hungry, it tasted good enough. I liked the Duck peking better.

“ Went to Butterfly at the old location (duboce). It was very fun. Hip, cool, sleek. There was a hamachi sashimi dish that was delicious! After 4 years I still remember it fondly! Not sure how the Embarcadero locale is working out. Looks like some mixed reviews.

“ Short version - stay at home and cook for yourself. Long version - ambiance 0 - glaring TV, seated next to two women drinking and conversing creating an invasion of their privacy vibe when there were plenty of seats, friendly staff, albeit waitress was a newbie. Apps: Clams and Mussels - Underdone, Strange thai Peanut Sugar Sauce when it was to be lemongrass-curry. Poor presentation and raw clam - eww. Duck Spring Roll - Cooked hours before, flavorless, served with another sugary dipping sauce. Entrees: Rib - 5-Spice, and that was all there was to it served with a lump of squash risotto - flavorless and no veggie??? Also, Chicken Clay Pot - Bland as well. Food was just OK, won't be going back. Much better restaurants easier to get to with way better food at the same price. ”

“ YUM, YUM, YUMMY
we got the kalua pig w/butter lettuce cups (this was so good, we gobbled it up) for an app and my husband had the teriyaki glazed free range chicken in clay pot (he liked it but the sausage was yucky), I got the five spice braised english short rib (it was good, best part was the pumpkin risotto). dessert was AWESOME!!! He got something that I can't remember the name, papayas and pomogranites in port reduction w/ some frozen custardy goodness - AWESOME and I got the banana bread pudding - also SUPER YUMMY! Definately would recommend. good service, valet, good martinis, excellent food ”

“ MMMMM...good food. Been here several times. Had the cowboy steak which was cooked perfectly. The sauce had chorizo in it too...every man's dream, meat on top of meat. The lobster bisque and bread pudding are also very good. ”

“ The food was uniquely presented and enjoyable. The steamed mussels & clams in a rich, spicy broth were particularly good as was the fried calamari. The hangar steak I had was extremely rare altho I requested med. rare. Portions are smallish, but enough to satisfy. The cocktails were good and inventive as well. The atmosphere was bland, despite the dj, and the wait staff a bit inattentive, but I would give Butterfly another try, preferably on a nice evening when there is a view (it was raining when I went). ”

“ Walking by Butterfly many times, I've always been curious.....and I must say the curiosity turned to delight at the very first item we ordered. On this day, we started with Kalua Pig with Butter Lettuce Cups a sweet mixture of
Hoisin Barbeque Sauce & lightly toasted cashews topped with green onions...Noticed many customers enjoying this one as well. For my entree, a pork loin with a light and tangy plum sauce and a potatoe cake...YUM. My dining mates tried the Crisypy Chicken, very interesting and well done as well. Definitely a place to put on the "plus"list. ”

“ By far, This is one of the better restaurants on the waterfront. The inside seating was very comfortable with a nice view of the bay. If you are lucky, you might see a flock of pelicans flying just above the water. Okay, now about the food. It's quite tasty and inventive, served in just the right portion. This is a must-go restaurant for good dining! ”

“ Great brunch place when you want more of an upscale mood and a waterfront view. They only had 6 choices for brunch, but they were all very decadent and looked delicious. I got a twist on standard eggs benedict, crab louis and garlic spinach instead of canadian bacon. delicious! But the best part was it came with a side of fruit that wasn't just an orange. A great size serving of rasberries, strawberries, blackberries, bananas, and tangerines. Most places would charge you $7 for a side of fruit. They also have a monte cristo with nutella, peanut butter and berry jelly. And if you are feeling extra decadent -- delicious appetizers. They serve real Mitchell's ice cream. Service was great. ”

“ I had the best bread pudding ever here! It was not overly soggy or mushy, just perfect! The food is good, the decor is hip with beautiful colors, and big glass windows offer a great view of the bay. I like going later at night for drinks and small things to nibble on. Nice hangout spot. ”

“ Butterfly's new location along the water in the EMB is an improvement from their old location in the Mission. Tried several apps which were solid, the drinks were great, and the DJ created a fun environment. A good date spot with the sexy lighting and fun atmosphere, or a good spot to grab a bite before heading out for a night on the town. ”

“ I was here the 1st week they were open. Obviously it was still a little chaotic but we shared a 1/2 dozen small plates and some cocktails and they were all really flavourful. Having the chef roaming around is a nice touch...creates a great atmosphere. The views are great...and It does have the DJ in the evening...if you like that scene. Definetly give it a try
Just an update---had the pre-fix on new years eve..it was fabulous. Not to mention the extra special love we got from Ray Lam---super service, glad we came. ”

“ An excellent venue: Great live music and wonderful small plates to share. The mussels and clams in red curry are the best I have tasted anywhere in the city. The kahula pig lettuce cups were to die for. Perfectly seasoned. The whole fried red snapper was presented as if it were swimming. The skin scored so that perfectly cooked chunks of meat are there to dine on. The tempura ahi was also a winner - and the black rice it sat on left me no choice but to pick off every kernel! Service can get in the weeds at times, but it's made up for it by the chef's wanderings through the dining room soliciting feedback and commentary from the diners. Highly recommended. One of my top ten favorite restaurants in SF. Great for parties too. The flexible table arrangements make for accommodating large groups. Don't forget to try the innovative cocktails - especiallty the ginger infused ones! ”
