With eye-poppingly delicious asian-french fusion cuisine, Chaya Brasserie presents spectacular Kobe beef crab sushi rolls and smashing meat dishes in superb accompanying sauces with equal aplomb. japanese chefs are creating some of the most delicious culinary combinations imaginable with Masa having started the trend in his historic restaurant, but chefs like Shigefumi Tachibe pursuing the tradition. Superb Ahi tuna tartare stirred with cucumber, apple, pine nuts, quail egg in chili miso vinaigrette. Stunningly delicious lamb and beef dishes, beautifully presented with delectable sauces: outstanding New York Strip with peppercorn butter and accompanying short ribs, meltingly delicious in bourbon marinade; signature Filet Mignon Rossini with potato soba crepes, foie gras and sauce perigueux, masterfully drizzled with jus de boeuf. Catastrophically succulent desserts, butterscotch banana bread pudding and panna cotta couched in sabayone. Warm soliticitous service and incomparable view. Review #21369

Took my girl friend from out of town here last saturday and we both just loved it. Beautiful bayview right around sunset. Service was excellent. Lychee ginger tini was oh, so good. All small plates this time: baked with mushroom in the little cups were kinda cute, the scallops were perfectly cooked, seafood cigars (like mini eggrolls) were crispy and tasty, save froi gras for last y'all cuz it had this sweet cranberry sauce. Nice presentation, hot food, and certainly satisfying. Review #21270

8/08 Sun. Chaya rocks! F%d is gr8, meticulous, delicate. Rainbow sashimi ($18 app) was nicely presented, w/ salmon, tuna, hamachi on top a nest of seaweed & julienned cucumber, daikon, beet (no rice!). Sauce was outta wrld w/ olive oil, somtin sweet, few wasabi. It tasted sm%th, crunchy, multiflavored. OMG! Chayapolitan ($10) was mango sm%th, citrus punchy & butiful. AK wild halibut ($31) was 80% :) done, juicy, flaky, tasty, w/ wild mushr%m, white corn, barley, string beans in wine sauce. A+! Waiter suggested to pair with 5 yrs Buelwitz Riesling ($9/glass) - full body, mild sweet, fragrant, fantastic. Wild King salmon ($32) was 100% :( done, crispy skin, still moist & delicious. Sides had fried cheese, chanterelle, shemiji in reduced balsamic. A-! Chocolate croissant bread pudding ($9) was superb w/ xtra crispy croissant sticking outta pudding. Evry bite was heavenly. Dis place is hip, not too loud (except d jazz band), w/ view of Bay Bridge 2 die 4. Service was xlnt. Best fusion! 4* Review #21217

Dined here for a friend's birthday dinner with a large party. Food was average and served in small portions. The menu is priced high not for the food, but for the location (water-front) and decor (large, dimly-lit dining room is quite sexy). If you're looking for a classy place to wow your friends visiting from smaller towns, consider this place. But I'd rather spend my dineros at a lower-key japanese joint that serves quality sushi and small plates. Review #18912

From their fresh, colorful sushi to their tender, mouthwatering steak, the food is absolutely delish! This place is a bit of a slurge, but worth every penny. The restaurant is very bright and airy. The service is great, too. There's also a great view in the back of the restaurant. Review #17579

my favorite place for lunch if the company's paying... freshest uni, but you'll have to pay market prices.... i like the combination medley which has 4 house specialities like beef, a sushi roll, duck salad (that was last week) and halibut... i also like the lobster ravioli and hanger beef steak salad (when they have it)..... you must get the creme brulee for dessert or the molten chocolate cake which is flourless with hot chocolate sauce oozing out from the center w/ ice cream and raspberry sauce. My husband and I quite enjoyed ourselves! We started off with crab cakes for appetizers. Very flavorful and I love the crunchy texture on the outside accompanied with their delicious sauce! He had the Rib-eyed Steak and I had the Filet Mignon w/ Foie Gras...delicious!!! Last but not least try their Sake Colada....THE BEST!...(its a creeper). This is a very nice place to have a romantic dinner or enjoy some cocktails with friends! Enjoy!! Review #16041

I've read that this restaurant is a good place for dates so I took my friend there for his birthday. We both had a great time, the restaurant itself is very nice, very elegant and casual at the same time, and I agree that this is a nice place to take your dates. Not to mention, the food was excellent. I had Sashimi salad for the starter. I had the lobster which was very tasful. The lamb chop is almost as good. We shared the Molten Cake for dessert. It was a great wonderful night, good restaurant with good food. Review #14763

First of all, great view and location. Please make a reservation, as seating is tight. They have a very interesting menu of sushi and steaks. B-friend must have ordered 6 different things. Loved them all. I had the rib eye and loved it. Not crazy for the wine list, but they do have some really fun cocktails. Love the variety of the menu. I say two thumbs up. Review #14516

This was the first 'fine dining' experience I had as a college student. I clearly remember the filet mignon being absolutely delicious, as it melted in my mouth bite after bite. It is a beatiful restaurant, with a great view of the bay and the bridge. The sushi was pretty good too as we started with a roll. Review #11567

Never had a bad experience here. Good for a romantic date or with a few friends. Pricey but very exciting menu, atmosphere and nice wine list. We ordered a bunch of stuff off the menu and sampled them all. Food was prepared and presented well and tasted amazing! Can't wait to go back! Review #11100

The sushi here is divine! The other food and wine are not to be missed either. However, it is a bit too expensive for me to go on my own, but great for a business lunch or dinner. I love taking out-of-towners here for the great food and the awesome view. Review #11019

I have been here three times, once for a fantastic date - one that got very expensive once we started drinking Cosmos, once just for drinks - and they do them well here!, and once for drinks and sushi sitting outside. This is what I most recommend. Staring out at palm trees and the lit Bay Bridge, eating excellent rainbow rolls, is really what San Francisco is all about. Bon Apetit! Review #10291

I went her for a date and enjoyed it immensely. Its a cozy, dimly lit elegant dining venue with great dirty martinis- the sake list is extensive with good selections and I highly recommend the tuna tartar, the fab desserts and the mint tea. Definately a place to check out. Review #10273

Go for lunch on a beautiful day and sit outside overlooking the bay... though once I saw a woman at night there whose breast had escaped her top without her knowing (for like an hour!)- high entertainment!!! I recommend a sunny day. ( the woman was pushing 50!) Review #8082

This restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere whether it be during the day or evening. The wait staff is very professional and Chaya is appropriate for a large business gathering or a smaller group. The food is excellent, especially the more japanese dishes. The support beams painted red with large flower arrangements on either end is very nicely done and "fits". The view is exceptionally beautiful on a clear day or night. Review #1730

I love the location and the view from Chaya. It makes you feel like you are in a true San Francisco restaurant. Great for dates and after work get togethers. I ordered the filet mignon, which isn't the smartest thing to order at a japanese restaurant, but it was great! I wished I had ordered something a little more japanese or fusion. Review #1340
