“
We had movie tickets at the embarcadero for 8:50 and arrived at the restaurant at 7:30. The waiter understood completely and made sure we had plenty of time to spare. We were able to enjoy a full meal at a normal pace and still make it back to the theater with more than enough time to spare. My ratings are based on the overall experience and while the food was fine with no complaints, the wait staff was exceptional. ”

“
Fresh seafood, but way overpriced. Even their regular dinner menu was over the tops. The crowd is beautiful and full of young professionals. I'll revisit this place when I have guests in town. Love the sake bar! ”

“ Came here for New Years Eve dinner with a large group. We had the 9? course prix - fixe meal. We all enjoyed the options, and the presentation was stunning. The fish was fresh, and the views INCREDIBLE- the bay bridge right out the window. We were not excited when we asked for a help with a sake selection and the waitress pointed out $500 and $700 bottles- I didn't even know there WAS sake that was that expensive- no thank you! Other than that, we got to try a pretty large sampling of their menu- even the things I had never tried- there was a special course that was traditional japanese new year cuisine- a few things that were a bit peculiar, yet interesting. Another thing that was kind of cool was that in the bar, that was not that far away, there was pretty much a dance party going on with techno/dance music going on- but you couldn't hear it unless you wanted to- like two different worlds. ”

“ We had a great lunch here today. I cannot speak for the price as I went with a group and it was paid for. It was a great setting. They have lots of different areas to sit in. We had this private room, the walls of which were created by hundreds of sake bottles encased in lucite. Way in the back of the restaurant there is a view of the bridge and the bay. The service was really friendly. We had a little bit of everything, and it was all fresh and tasty. The dynamite roll was the special of the day and it was the best roll in my opinion. The spicy scallops and hamachi were great, too. One special touch - in the restroom they have a japanese language cd playing over the speakers. ”

“ Overpriced americanized japanese food. It is not worth the $. The food quality is just weak. Good bar atmosphere for drinking expensive sake. Other than that, go to some local real japanese restaurant. Perhaps try Hanazen in Union square or others in J-town. ”

“ WOW!! We scored a spot at the bar with the executive chef and asked him to take care of us. We asked for something special and he started us off with baby eel- to die for! I didn't know where he could possibly go after that, but every piece of fish that he placed in front of us was very special. Normally we skip dessert after sushi, but Saturday night we went for the dark chocolate pot de crème with the sesame florentine cup and it was so delicious. It was a pricey meal, but definitely a place to go back to! ”

“
I like their food, but it is overpriced. They used to have a great lunch bento box called the office lady special, but they got rid of it and just kept their higher priced box (the mifune). I think that they should offer miso soup (at least the standard version) with their bento boxes and entrees, rather than charge 3 or 4 dollars extra for it. They usually have a good non-alcoholic juice drink available.
Their happy hour is decent, if you can make it in the very small window of time that they offer it. Service during happy hour isn't usually great.

“ Went for lunch one day...I'm not really a sushi eater but I decided to at least TRY it as I heard this is one of the best places for sushi. It was really good and I'm glad I tried it. It was expensive but you pay for high quality which this clearly was. ”

“ After reading the reviews saying this restaurant was overpriced, I found out they had a 3-course $21.95 lunch special, so my girlfriend and I decided to go. We got a window table with a great view of the Bay Bridge. The prix fixe lunch started with an ordinary aoba salad, but the sashimi course (2 each of maguro, hamachi and sake) was very good & fresh. Uni ($8.50) was added to the mix and it was melt-in-your-mouth good, especially since it was paired with fresh-grated wasabi. We were ooo-ing over the tempura soba (buckwheat noodles in a rich, earthy broth.) The tempura at the bottom got a bit soggy, but I had no complaints there. We also had the Beefsteak ($17), but the meat was a little dry and bland. Our waiter suggested the Tokusen Sake Flight ($14). It consisted of a super premium (Otokoyama), premium (Sawanoi) and regular (Wakatake). All three were good, but we agreed the premium was the least flavorful of the three. Corkage is $20. Definitely a good bet for lunch. ”

“ WHAT A RIP OFF!!! God this place is the pits, I've been several times in the vain hopes that I was there on off nights but every trip just seems to be more disappointing than the last. As it's on my walk home and one of the only sushi places along the waterfront I was rooting to give them a chance but no way. Service has to be some of the worst in the city despite ridiculous prices for skimpy pieces of sushi. Professionally ignored no matter how empty the bar is and rude when you are finally acknowledged after desperately flagging someone down. Last visit I was given was must have been pre-made sushi rolls at happy hour that were soggy. I was charged full whack on the bill and had to have them adjust for happy hour prices, however, bill came back with full price wine even though that should have been adjusted with attitude to boot. Take your hard earned $'s elsewhere.....

“ Beautiful restaurant. Try to grab a table next to the window and you will be treated to a beautiful view of the water and Bay Bridge. The sushi is fresh but overpriced. There are better place for sushi but you pay for the ambience.

“ I've heard about this place but I never put an effort to go until a friend took me there. We were seated by the window, so it was pretty interesting to watch people walk by. As far as the sushi goes, I think it's overpriced. I can get much better sushi anywhere else. However, the restaurant/bar has a nice atmosphere. It was very packed the night we went, maybe it's always like that on the weekend.

“ Hands down best sushi I have ever had anywhere. It was so fresh, melt in your mouth absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend the sashimi sampler platter that has a delicious sampling of very fresh sashimi. If they have the bene toro please get it - it is sooo good! Our waiter was very knowledgeable about sake and gave us a great recommendation. Their sake selection is very impressive. My one gripe was with the service. After our waiter sold us a very expensive bottle of sake he seemed to forget us. We had to wait about 15 minutes to place another order of sushi and to get our bill. Also, fill up on the sushi and skip the dessert - it is not very exciting. It was an expensed dinner so I didn't pay too much attention to the prices, but it was definitely extremely expensive. However, I think it is worth it! ”

“ I met with the events director there for a tasting. The appetizers were absolutely delicious. Kobe beef that melts in your mouth, unbelievable sake, and refreshing cocktails. Every waitperson is a sake sommelier. Just ask and they'll bring you the appropriate sake for what you're eating. We love it! Great atmosphere and appropriate DJ music in the Sake Lounge. ”

“ Fantastic experience all around. Whether you are looking for happy hour; cocktails in the evening; fine dining; casual dining with an edge… each of these distinct experiences are found within the walls of this uniquely decorated restaurant.
Ozumo is a sushi eaters heaven, with the freshest fish making up a variety of choices for the palate including sushi, clever rolls and salads of raw mouth watering delight. For the non-sushi person, Ozumo’s robata grill cooks up dishes full of unfamiliar, but tasty, flavors.
There are five different atmosphere’s within Ozumo… you can sit in the beautiful, large restaurant overlooking the bay/embarcadero/bay bridge or at the sushi bar in the center of the restaurant; you can dine in one of their private rooms of glass; you can sit in the quieter area by the robata grill; or eat and sip on one of hundreds of sakes in the bar/lounge kept alive by beautiful décor, good tunes, tasty cocktails, and the welcoming staff. ”

“ had a bday dinner awhile back. the interior is easy on the eyes, very sleek and modern decor, sexy crowd, nice view. cool dj. it's one of those places out of sex and the city. the kobi beef and chocolate/fruit fondue was delic. they also do lychee martinis, plus! this isn't a place i'd go to chow down, it's a place to get dressed up on a fri/sat night and be with friends, have some drinks, and grab a couple bites if you're hungry. expensive but worth the experience. i'd go back. ”

“ This restaurant has a grand, swanky entrance that opens to a very hip bar scene. I would probably hang out here if I was the party type, but I'm not. What I do come back for time and again is the food. It is rather pricey but well worth splurging on. The fusion take on their japanese fare is imaginative and well-executed. But the place to be is the sushi bar. Ozumo has some of the freshest sushi and sashimi you will find in San Francisco. And if you ask for sushi Chef Kazu, he will advise you on what to order and take excellent care of you. ”

“ Wow, knock your socks off fantastic modern japanese cuisine. But man will you pay for it. Very very (very) pricey, but the food is so good that the endorphins you are swarmed with after the meal will distract you while you empty your pockets. Very swanky sceney bar at the front, great cocktail list, a bit loud overall, but not distracting. Service is a little frantic and inexperienced which was a strange match to the extremely sophisticated food. A must visit for foodies. ”

“ I have been to Ozumo about six times, I only made it past the bar once! Definitely a great happy hour scene, the food's not cheap but what do you expect? It is good and there are great options for sushi and sashimi and of course more sake than you can really understand! And the bartender (Cody) is a great guy fun and entertaining! He definitely makes me want to come back, and eat at the bar rather than in the dining room. ”

“ Went for the first time last week and was impressed. When walking in you get the feeling that it's one of those upwardly-mobile-annoying-hipper-than-thou-overated joints. BUT IT'S NOT. Well, the bar still kind of looks that way, but this place has the food to back it up. We had:
ZEITAKU ($16) Tempura tiger prawns appetizer. This really was some of the best prepared shrimp I've ever had.
TEMPURA CRAB SALAD ($15) Very very good. Nice light tempura with a spicy garlic dressing.
ROCK-N-ROLL sushi ($7) Everyone who likes sushi, likes the rock-n-roll. this was up there on my scale, not the best I've ever had, but up there.
ABARA ($18) spare ribs in apicy aka miso - So very good. Definitely worth the price and how often does one really eat spare ribs? I loved these. Perfectly cooked.
SAKE SAMPLER ($16). I think there are 3 different samplers. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than the $65 bottles they were recommending to us.

“ I went here for drinks one night and the crowd was cool and overall fun. I returned for lunch with some coworkers and we ordered one of the eighty dollar sake bottles -- well soemthing very strange happened - one of the waiters took it from the table before it was done, without asking. It had at least 10% left -- and I saw him pour it into a glass in the waiter area. I asked him about it and they renumerated by giving us one of the appetizers for free. But this left a bad taste in my mouth -- no pun attended. ”

“ I've eaten here before, I half to admit that the Kobe beef (medium well) is one of the finest and melt in you mouth beef on the market. I was very shocked and felt like the Bambie Effect when it started melting in my mouth, very impressive. Also, try the Black Tea, it taste very good after a good meal. Yea, this place is a hipster place to hang out but if you are willing to shell out some major fundage just to be seen then.... ”

“ Great place for H-Hour before grabbing some sushi for dinner. Though a bit pricey, you're paying for the atmosphere. The younger, hip crowd gather at this joint to partake in sake-based drinks as well as to admire the table next to you. Some creative rolls, and when the uni is 'fresh', some of the nicest I've had. I've always gone here on an expense acct, so I can't attest to the prices. But I've always walked away happy with their service, even when we had to cancel a couple of orders. ”
