“ This is one of our absolute favorite places these days. I love scotch. That certainly biases me towards the place with it's incredible selection.
If you sit at the bar and talk with the bartenders, you'll find them all to be highly knowledgeable and happy to talk about scotch and teach you and offer you tastes.
I also love the food here. I would normally describe it as a bit pricey - especially for the relatively small portions. However, many of the items are truly spectacular: from simple things like their Nihon Fries, or the Onigiri (grilled rice patties) to the complex Uni on The Spoon (see a previous reviewer's comments:) or the complex and ridiculously delicious Dynamite Oysters (served on a bed of flames). Also, from 6-7pm every day, the appetizers and salads (about 10 or 12 of the items on the menu) are all half off, as are the house coctails and beers. (I adore the house special coctails).
Avoid Nihon Thu-Sat unless you WANT loud/hip/dj. ”

“ beautiful space next to chez spencer and rainbow...as mentioned large whiskey selection but so what...? the food here is mediocre bar nibbles all dressed up but not exciting or challanging or even that good...the cocktails that are not whiskey are watered down..read that as weak pours!!!! I had five drinks the other night and was sober as a church mouse when I left there.,..cute staff..I would love to date any number of the girls there...music is dj and he has not talent..so back to food...not worth it unless you are here to drink and then to nosh..not a destination for food on its own...

“ Nice bar selection, contrary to one of the other reviewers, I thought the "bar staff" was great. Fries were excellent. Grilled octopus didn't seem all that grilled - I'd prefer bigger pieces actually char-grilled, but that's more portuguese style, I suppose. Lamb robata was good. Some sort of roll, wasn't that memorable... Overall, 3 stars. ”

“ I have to go neutral. Single malt list is extensive, and the decor is nice (sleek, mixed between earthy woods and industrial metals, dramatic lighting), they have bottle lockers for your whiskey, and it's a nice place for a drink in general. We were underwhelmed by the food. Despite the nice whiskey selection, my first pour had a piece of rice sitting in the bottom of the glass. Yikes. The food: Started with wakame salad which was pretty standard. Toro/avocado carpaccio was rich and creamy, but lacked flavor entirely. Grilled lamb (robata - japanese bbq - is a section of the menu) had a very nice charred flavor, but not much flavor beyond that. Meat was rubbery. "Uni on a spoon" was the highlight - lovely generous portion (2 lobes) of uni topped with scallion, caviar, touch of ponzu and a squeeze of lime. I have never had uni and was warned by friends that it can either make you or break you. I fell in love, so they did something right. We finished with salmon sashimi, also standard. ”

“ First note - this is only on the bar aspect, as I didn't eat there.
Nice scotch selection! 113 single malts, 30 blends (22 of which are scotch), and over 20 bourbons. Definately a nice problem to have to choose! The cheapest scotches are $9 which is definatley overpriced, but you're paying for the selection, the swank modern atmosphere, and the knowledgeable bar staff. Both girls behind the bar knew their scotch, and were happy to chat about it which was great fun.
The bar has a tres cool feel - lots of dark wood, funky exposed concrete pillars, and metal. A perfect mix of dark smoking lounge and modern swank. ”

“ Skip the bar (great selection, mediocre-at-best barstaff) and go right upstairs. OUTstanding japanese food, cool waitstaff who know their way around the extensive and exquisiste whiskey menu, and a big bonus for the late night kitchen hours. Any of the beef dishes are brilliant, everything we had was great and very authentic. Felt like a Tokyo restaurant. Ask your server to recommend a whisky or two to complement your choices as an alternative to wine or sake...you'll be pleasantly surprised. I LOVE this place. ”
