I've got to say, I have a tendency to get a little addicted to this place. It doesn't help that it's so close to my apartment... While I have a number of friends who prefer Little Star deep dish, I think Patxi's has the better flavor. Ordering their whole wheat crust is a must. My favorite pizza combo is their Veggie pizza (onions, green peppers, black olives and mushrooms). You can't really go wrong with their deep dish, though - I've never gotten a bad combination yet. They also started offering slices during lunchtime last year, and they recently starting delivering. This is why they rock. The pizza is a little pricey, but it's dense; you'll be remarkably full after two slices. Also, I'm really only recommending their deep dish pizzas (and I usually skip the salad, so I can't comment on that). Their thin crust pizzas are fine but nothing special - I'm sure you can find better. Review #21407

After reading all the great reviews on this site and others I had to try this pizza having just come back from Chicago and having Giordano's fabulous pizza. I was very happy to read that there was a place that compared to Giordano's, but it did not. First thing I noticed was the crust had no flavor at all...sort of tasted like eating cardboard, about the same consistency. The crust is usually my favorite part, so I was very disappointed. Second, there was way too much tomato sauce on it. We ordered two different Chicago style pizzas, and one of them was lacking in much flavor at all as the ingredients seemed sparse. 4 of us went and we ended up taking more home than we ate, and I'm not quite sure why we even took it as no one is going to eat it. As native San Franciscans we were amazed we had never been to this place before, but now we know why. Oh, on the good side, the service was excellent and the wait staff was very friendly. I guess nothing compares to Giordano's!!!! Review #19952

I am addicted to the sauce at Patxi's. It is so tangy and delicious! There are a few good deep dish pizza places now, but I think Patxi's has the best thin crust. (I eat here too often to order the deep dish each time, I'd be the size of a whale!) I recently got a Little Star deep dish, also very good, but I'm not a fan of tomato sauce with hunks of tomato so large that they seem like a topping. The crust seemed more of a whole wheat mixture compared to Patxi's, and I had a hard time locating the toppings in the pie. These are the three noticeable differences between the two for me, but both are good at satisfying my pizza cravings. Review #19527

This place is great! I've had authentic Chicago deep-dish pizza (Lou Malnati's & Giordano's) and I must admit that Patxi's has some of the tastiest deep-dish pizza outside of Chicago. The ambiance is nice and the staff is very friendly. I'd definitely go back for more yummy pizza. Review #19230

Decadent, oozing with cheese Chicago style pizza- the pesto/ spinach/ garlic special is amazing.. but just a bit too much cheese for me. If I am going to go for this style pizza- I prefer Little Star but this place was definitely yummy! Review #19110

I like the interior. The pizza tasted somewhat bland, but maybe it was a one-time deal. I think this place is worth trying again. The portions were definitely enough to fill my friend and me up. Review #17384

I love a good pizza and this place rocks! The cornmeal crust was perfect, and there was no skimping on the toppings. Lots of cheese and a yummy sauce. If you don't mind spending a couple extra bucks for some quality pizza, this is your joint! Review #17139

I gotta admit I like Little Star a whole lot better, but what do you do when the one you're with is a Patxi's fan? One thing this place has got it going on is the inspired spinach-pesto combo. Yum yum yum. However, don't get this pizza via the waiter delivery service - the crust is soggy and the cheese gummy by the time it gets to you. Review #16048

I'm always in search of the best pizza and I've discoverd that there are many "best" pizza places around. Patxi's seemed to be right up there with the better ones, but I'll agree it's not quite as good as Little Star. The dough was fresh and chewy the way I like it and the toppings were fresh and generous. I went there when the place was packed and the service was great. Review #15238

This is a failed execution, with several different ideas competing for attention and none succeeding. Is it a sports bar, an "authentic" Chicago-style pizza place, a cozy neighborhood restuarant, a late-night pizza joint, or what? The tiny space is too crowded, and a lot of space is wasted by the ADA-compliant wheelchair ramp along the east wall. The "bar" seating along the front windows is entirely wasted. Why are there flat screen TV's on the wall? You can't see them, and they don't serve beer. Service was a mess - we ordered five salads and got one in 3 minutes, three more 20 minutes later, and the last one 5 minutes after that. The salads themselves were nothing special. The pizza was also just OK - Little Star is better, if you like the deep dish style. This place needs a good floor manager and some time to settle in - it'll probably end up just fine, since the neighborhood was so badly in need of restaurants. Review #14561

The thin crust pepperoni slice and greek salad were both good. The iced tea needed to be tossed. Friendly service. Review #14163

The crust was really good (whole wheat--tangy and flaky), but there was so much cheese on the pizza that some of the items inside were not cooked. Unfortunately, the waitstaff seemed a bit thick-headed, though.I had asked for a vegetarian pizza and got one stuffed with pepperoni. Thankfully, the manager took care of everything and comped another pizza--professional and very much appreciated.Still, not sure I would go back again--not really my cup o' tea. Review #14034

Yum! No need to cross the bay the Zachary's anymore. Their deep dish is awesome. Their sauce is a little less chunky than Zach's, but still very good and spicey. We got the mushroom and pepperoni deep dish and it was great. They also have a really inexpensive wine list with no bottle over $29. Good service, I wish they delivered! Review #13269

Well, we tried on one evening the famous chicago style patxi's deep dish, very not good, we both had a slice and took the rest home. Normally I love leftover pizza, but this was unedible. I do not understand any pizza place that places its toppings under the cheese without par-cooking them first or something. I mean garlic thats not roasted under the cheese is horrible and really ruins the pie, also the mushrooms, do get cooked, but they lack any character and just gum up the works even worse. On another occasion we tried the thin crust pizza and had it to go. It was a lot better, we enjoyed it, but when I need pizza this will not be the place (and I live across the street). Review #12234

They say it's pronounced "pah-cheese". I am so happy to have a good Chicago style pizza place in the city now. The ceasar salad was super good with a half dozen whole anchovy fillets (they will omit these or put them on the side for you). This is Chicago deep dish, not stuffed pizza, so it's not a direct comparison to Zachary's in Oakland. The sauce is great, not as chunky as Zachary's but still plenty of texture and just the right balance of sweet and herby. The space is very nice. I could do without the TV's, but the big brick wall reminds me of my days in Chicago. Overall, a real winner! Review #10636

Cosy little space (seating for maybe 40 at most) with a big brick wall along one side, 2 flat screens on the other, and a big pizza oven at the back. They do Chicago-style deep dish 'stuffed' pizza (similar to Zachary's) with a sweet, tangy tomato sauce, rich flaky crust (go for the whole wheat - trust me on this!), and really flavorful ingredients, especially their sausage. They do thin crust as well, but the stuffed is the specialty and the reason to go. They also offer salad, 4 beers on tap, and a nice selection of largely italian wines. Don't go if you're in a rush, though - the stuffed pizza takes 30 minutes to cook. Review #10493
