“
This is a great place for tapas right in the heart of Mission. The place is big and also has a small bar for food. They serve amazing Sangria and Thirsty beer on tap.
The tapas are awesome, they make great blood Sausage, calamari is always grilled and to die for Spinach with pinenuts. It's a bit pricey comapred to other Tapa places nearby.
There is a parking garage half a block away on Hoff between 16Th and 17Th and Valencia and Mission.

“
They were ok. Nothing special. It's loud and trendy. I just came back from Spain and it was nothing like the great restaurants in Spain but they did imitate the average restaurants well. ”

“ I agree with some others. Hungry, poor and lit. That's after eating there. They burn garlic. You have to drink or you won't be able to get through the food. The service was good. I can't blame them for the crap comming out of the kitchen. All the kids who are "slumin' it" from Danville or Walnut Creek end up there. It is pretty. The one great thing about the place is that all those folks wearing their yuppy uniforms come in, get loaded on expensive booze and have allready parked their parents car in the middle of the street as if it was legal.(Would you do it in the burbs?) They get so drunk they forget check on it( which is why they parked there) & at some point they are towed! HAHAHAHAHAH! So I say go for the entertainment, if you like watching others in pain (killed off by the sangria). But don't go for the food. And if you want to impress some one on a date, feed them good food. Want authentic? Go to Esperpento 3295 22cnd Street. There is a parking garage on the next block. ”

“ I have eaten here twice and enjoyed both experiences. The second time was a Friday night at 7:00, so we definitely had to wait awhile and it is one of those places where no matter where you stand, you feel you are "in the way" of the waiters and waitresses. Other than that, I think it is a fun dining experience. The sangria I thought was excellent, and the tapas were creative. I would definitely go back again.

“ This is a place I avoid when it is crowded. The acoustics are bad and the place gets really loud, annoyingly loud. I have always liked the dishes I have had here and have had almost everything sans fish/seafood items. The tab can add up pretty quickly. I always find that I spend more for dinner here than most other places (not tapas places). Sometimes I come away feeling less satisfied because we'll order a few dishes, eat them and then need to order more which means a fair wait for the next bit of food. I usually stick to this place when dining with a group of 5 or more, or when someone from the Midwest is in town and I want to take them for something they may not have at home. I think the food is fine, not outstanding, but tasty. The loudness usually makes the dinner somewhat unpleasant and the service has been reliably uneven. If you are good with loud meals and are not in a hurry, then you'll do fine here. Otherwise, venture in when the place is on the empty side. ”

“ Ramblas no more. Although the decor was nice and inviting, the meal left nothing to write home about.
For the price, at least for me, it just wasn’t worth it for the quality of food I received. I guess the one thing I did enjoy was the Sangria.

“ Yum! This place is less expensive than Thirsty Bear with a much shorter line than Cha Cha Cha. When I'm in the mood for some tapas, this is where I go.
However, I am still looking for a place in SF that can compare to what I've had in Spain... ”

“ The food was nice (I recommend the pork skewers and setas), but I won't go back to Ramblas until I try all the other tapas places in the neighborhood as nothing really stood out. The sangria is good, but Limon (across the street) does it better. ”

“ The first time we tried to go here we turned around and walked out - it was just way way too loud. I made it back there on a Monday night to find it much less crowded, though obviously they don't like quiet as they had a live guitarist that they tried to sit us right next to (we asked to go to the back so we could actually have a conversation). I don't think I tried enough to say one way or another how good the food is, though it certainly isn't bad. The sangria was quite nice. ”

“ What a scene that place can be! I was surprised to see it filled with young hip professionals because outside there are at least four homeless derelicts sleeping on the street (per side/block.) I had the stuffed peppers which were okay but were floating in olive oil. Then had the lamb with the watercress salad side. The lamb was okay but tough and didn't really taste grilled, rather broiled. It was supposed to be sirloin but the pieces were a challenge to cut. The sangria is supposed to be fabulous but it was lukewarm and so-so in my book. They unfortunately sat me by the service station which is my least favorite place in a restaurant (and we got there at 6:30 when it was empty) and that sort of set me out on a bad foot. Maybe they didn't know who I was!?!? Ha! Anyway, it was okay but certainly not deserving of the Zagat rating that they received. The service was okay as well but not fabulous. I had to wait 10 minutes for my sangria #2 and was done with dinner by then. ”

“ Very decent tapas, although skip the paella. This is miles ahead of Picaro which is around the corner, but not as good as Esperpento, which is worth the walk (further away). ”

“ I didn't think this place was anything special, with so many tapas places out there, this one doesn't have anything that stands out. Food was average, and the paellas were way too greasy. ”

“ Why is it that every tapas place has the acoustics of a soccer game? You shout your order to the slow wait staff. The garlic shrimp were good, although disappeared within 4 Seconds so we had to order 2 more of the plates. The mussels were also tasty as was the combo seafood plate. The only problem with these places is that by the time you get the new plates, and finish them, it's time to order a couple more. This way an hour dinner gets to drag out as much as the final dinner tab! Don't get the paella, it was awful! The rice was soggy and lacked the saffron it should have had! The bar is busy, and the drinks too forever to arrive. This is one of the few places that had a good selection of Cachacas which is required for Capirinhas! 16 plates later, Get ready to hock your car to pay the bill for 4 hungry eaters, These tapas places nickel and dime you to death, or should I say dime and quarter you. Forget parking, just have one of your buddies circle the block for couple hours….. ”

“ comments: I love this place. I ate here with my parents when they came to visit me in SF. They loved it as well. We ordered Sangrias and lots of tapas. Everything was so yummy and I walked out of there stuffed and tipsy! It was fabulous. I did not feel like I was in the Mission at all. The decor in there is interesting too. ”

“ QUE BIEN! Lets keep the authenticity of the spanish tapas........Im sick of the latino tapas on the rise, after all spanish dont copy their sucess. If i want great mexican or Puerto Rican food, I dont search out a spanish restaurant. By the same token, if you want a great tapas place where you get a taste of Spain¨in they city....Ramblas es una¨,translated means...Ramblas is one of them! ”

“ updated-10/31/06
I once wrote
"this is perhaps one of the better of the tapas places in town..while I believe the traditional spanish tapas place is on the wane and with the advent of nuevo latino tapas on the rise, its funny how all these places hold on to old formulas and are not adapting..they are doing so in spain! still the food is good here..."
and beleive that this place is now at best dated...good for a younger crowd... ”

“ This is one of the best tapas place I've had in the Mission district. Their promegrante margaritas are great. Some of my favorite dishes are: the flank steak, mushroom dish, chicken&garlic, shrimp&garlic. This place is good for a party of 6 people or more. Great service. ”
