Standard diner food. I like their shakes- especially the black and white- but certainly nothing to write home about. A fine place for a comfort food fix. Review #21060

What a buzz kill! This place totally lives off of their name and the fact that they are open late night when there is nowhere else to go. I got a ham & cheese omelette that had boat loads of uncooked ham and what tasted like cheeze whizz. Horrible service time and time again. The entire chain is not bunk, just the one on Lombard as far as I can tell. If you have to go, go drunk at around 2am when you do not care how bad the food tastes or how bad the service is. I used to work at Mel's on Lombard as a waiter for a long time... Took pride in my work and always tried giving the best service i possibly could... I saw a bunch of picky customers who complained just because they could and others that i just felt embarrased because they were right!!... There is a cook there that is just plain nasty.. HE STINKS!!!!!!!... he's hairy and you can tell he doesn't ever take showers... and yet, he's the one cooking your food.... The employees there don't eat food that's made from him... Most cooks are ok... There is a couple that are perverts and act like f*****s... one of them used to grab my a** and go right to the kitchen and cook after that... nasty!!... i got sick a couple of times from eating from the hairy cook and never ate from him again.. but, overall, on a good day.. the cooks are good and the food is great and fresh... and if you had me.. you couldnt complain about service.. i was on top of it all.... ahhh, the classic late night dinning. Overall, I eat there late at night and the food is always good. But heck, that late everything is always good. Its cheap and you will always have a nice amusing antidote the next morning. Review #13811

Good late night meal. Good comfort food. Especially if you order the Sunset Burger, you will exceed your daily calories for a couple of days but it's so good. The butter toasted sourdough with 1/2 lb burger and cheese and avocado!! But you have to order fries for extra... Review #10141

Greasy spoon, Greasy forks, - why do I keep going back here? Oh yeah - open late, and cheap. Don't go if you're looking for extraordinary food, you won't find it here. I do like the Herb Cain though. Review #7218

Decent 50s diner. Everything is a bit greasier than it needs to be, and a dollar more than it should be. But it's open really late, so often its the best option for a late night burger fix. Review #7073

It's nothing extraordinary, but great for the hangover from the night before. No french toast! Not very veggie friendly. Review #4735

a classic place to go at 2 am when you get outta the club! not the best food but it hits the spot when you need a place to grab some food and gab with friends after a night of partying....the salads leave something to desired....taste more like they were just pulled out of a bag....but the burgers are goo :o) Review #3564

Fun food, I’m a burger and fry's kind of guy. They have yummy milkshakes, and there is some really cool movie memorabilia about American graffiti, which was filmed in San Rafael and Petaluma. Review #813
