“ This review is difficult & confusing for me. 4 of us (2 gourmets, 2 wanna' be's) came after Michael Bauer (SF Chron) gave 4 stars. My expectations were high. Small room sparkles with quality furnishings, linens, glassware, silver, plates are all top notch. Server was well informed on menu & wine choices, but had a supercilious attitude. Laughable for a 24 yr old working the "premium" Novato restaurant, we're 500 yards from cow pastures here, not the modern art museum. We each ordered different items to taste the largest variety. Here's my confusion: I cleaned my plates, but I was NOT wholly satisfied by any of it. Frisee salad had a touch too much salt. Soup had a touch too much Sherry. Sauce on the beef had nice pepperiness, but the pan glaze was a bit too fruity. dessert was rich, but oddly sterile. We talked after exiting, we all agreed. Good ingredients, obvious chef talent, nice place, we ate it all, food cost=$60 per, but we're not satiated nor happy. We won't go back. Weird. ”
