“ Great service, tasty but pricey food, comfortable but uninspiring decor (though we weren't in the main dining room because of a private party). I probably won't come back unless they have an amazing happy hour. ”

“ lchai, with a face like that and 110 reviews I thought you would surely steer me in the right direction!
Seriously though, this place was lousy. I met a friend there we decided to get 3 small plates (naan, crab cakes, and chicken spring rolls). They all came out sort of plain without much flavor. the crab cakes didn't seem fresh, and the spring rolls were so-so. The naan was actually very good but came out scorching hot and everything else came out sorta warm. For our main course we split the duck plate. It was the best part of the meal. The flavor was interesting, but not breathtaking. I thought that it was prepared decently, definitely not overcooked. The arrangement was pleasant but lacking formality. From all the good reviews on the internet and the snazzy website I guess I was a bit over hyped. Bill was 70ish. If the food was a little better I could justify spending even more, but as it was... overpriced.
I love dining and this is a cool website, I will post a lo ”

“ For drinks I sampled the White Tiger; somewhat citrus like kind of like a lemon drop, but subtle. I also drank the Tuk Tuk, which reminded me of a watered down version of jungle juice or a spiked fruit punch bowl that wasn't spiked enough. The Garlic Naan bread was bland and was served with pear chutney and a cucumber sauce, neither of which helped. The lemon grass muscles were some of the best I've had; spicy and not rubbery. Finally the lamb-kabobs. Don't be fooled; this was ground lamb rolled up into an oblong meatball and skewered, served with cauliflower and what appeared to be garbanzo beans, but may have been chickpeas, not very colorful in the least. Not one meal had color too it, except the prawns and tuna. Not sure where the "fusion" came into play here. After gratuity and a few drinks 100+ for 2 people. Better options out there for the money.

“ I went to this place before the theatre to grab a bite to eat and was totally surprised. First we had a few drinks in the lounge (at happy hour prices 4-7pm). We didn't even know they had happy hour. Then we went to the dining room for dinner, where we were treated to dishes from all over Asia. Sharing is recommended and is the best way to experience the food. We had a combination of small and large plates which were all very interesting and tasty. Our server told us they have a relatively new chef, and she has really elevated the cuisine. It is much better than the last time I was there a few years ago. I will definitely go back even if it's not before the theatre. ”

“ Another Pan asian fusion restaurant in a cool atmosphere trying too hard. They have a bartender spinning and the bar action is good. The food is nice, but nothing exceptional, almost overflavored not giving the ingredients a chance to shine...but the location near the theater district and the fun atmosphere gets a positive nod. ”

“ Nice decor, good service, and the fairly good food, but nothing really stands out. I found it comparable to Straits Cafe, in both decor and food (asian fusion). In fact, their roti bread appetizers with coconut curry dipping sauce are almost identical. Like other reviewers said, the portions are small for the price. Our table of four found some dishes almost too small to share. ”

“ A cute little restaurant. Fun to order and share with friends. Pricey and the portions are rather small. The atmosphere is interesting, and I'm not sure if I mean it in a good or bad way. It feels like they are trying to be intimate and yet hip at the same time. We sat at the bar before dinner and it just seems the layout wasn't too conducive for comfort. My lasting impression is that the fusion sake was really, really good (try the lychee sake) and the portions small (I was still a little hungry afterwards!). I would say try it once. ”

“ More asian fusion!! Pricey and the food is way overdone, overflavored, overpresented. Feels very 80s to me for some reason. If they held back a little it would be way better, but it certainly isn't bad. There are just a lot of asian fusion spots in this town that do it better. ”

“ My review from my visit a couple years ago read as follows: "A nice, classy restaurant with good food, elegantly prepared and plated. A bit on the pricey side but conveniently located downtown near theaters, hotels, and shopping. Sake is served in traditional wooden box cups."
I went there again last night (8/27/06) and was reminded of how good the food was and how much I liked this place. Awesome decor, very friendly professional waiter, and the food was delicious. We had lamb, duck, corn chili soup, calamari, ahi tuna tartare, veggie curry, veggie noodles, and a chocolate mousse dessert. Everything was delicious and I'd definitely go back.

“ Ponzu is a very good restaurant and highly overlooked by locals because of it's location. The food is excellent and tasty. Small plates are reccommended. Give them a try! ”
