“ I wish this place was right outside my front door. I would go here every morning for coffee and a pastry. I was more than pleased with the goat cheese and fig tart that we ordered for a friend's going away party. We had to pick it up a day in advance because they are closed on mondays. The crust of the tart was still flaky and buttery, even after sitting for a day. For large orders, you need to place them in advance. The staff was friendly and helpful when I made the arrangements. The only problem with this place is that I have to choose between a menu overflowing with options.

“ Love this similar kind of french bakery. Sometimes it is a little too noisy given the number of kids. Service could improve. There are a couple of unfriendly servers but other than that I wish there were more places like this. If the owner is reading, please, please replace those unstable tables :)
Food recommended: Rasbarry Financier, apple turnover and best latte ever ! ”

“ This tiny eatery (with another location in Pacific Heights) which has huge windows and long tables (to share), and some smaller tables in the corners, features delicious homemade breads and pastries, and the most amazing homemade granola (all available to go). And, it's all organic. Yay. Breakfast is divine. Grab someone's leftover paper, ask for a large coffee (it'll come in the traditional french-type bowl), order a scramble (like the smoked salmon with fresh wholegrain bread and fruit), or a sandwich, and you can nibble while you read, and enjoy people watching. Bring your dog and sit outside at one of the many outdoor tables. It's a friendly establishment with the good naturedness typical of Cole Valley. A real gem. ”

“
All of the Cole Valley Francophiles love this place, but it drives me nuts - because there is nothing that I can eat on the menu. Maybe that's because I can't eat dairy and it's french. It's not you, it's me. However, the bread is so good, it makes up for all of the french cafe b.s. that you have to put up with to eat here. Prepare yourself for a french stroller set. If that's your thing. ”

“ This place is great! It feels authentically french. It's rustic and smells like fresh bread and butter when you walk in. Their coffee is excellent--one of the best lattes I've had in a while. I tried the ham and chesse croissant which was delicious but everything looked delicious. Lots of salads and prepared baguette sandwiches. I'll definitely be back for my european cafe fix! ”

“ Great coffee and excellent pastries. They make a flan tart that is really delicious. What I like about all the baked goods is that they are not too sweet. It's rare to find a tarte tatin that really tastes like apples rather than sugar. The only drawback here is that it can be tough to get a table on the weekend.

“ Bread, croissants, pain au chocolat all very good. Better be b/c SF has some good bread. Even better are the down home frenchie comfort foods... Flan is delicious!! They have CANNELLE for the love of Pete! YUM A++. Never had it? Go get some and hope I left you one. Gallette des Rois is YUM. Flaky crust, moist almond paste layer. They include the 'feve' (tiny ceramic figure) and the crown. Hubby cried real tears when I brought home ficelle. Cried nostalgic tears b/c I didn't bring home an epi-- a type of yum baguette.
Hubby is fresh from Versailles and incidently on the mere's side they have had a boulangerie for several generations. Bread is in his blood. He gives the place a Oui Oui! Me too.
ps
FYI Galette des Rois is traditionally eaten January 6 (but available all January) on the epiphany/Twelth Night. The feve is hidden in one of the slices of gallette. Watch your teeth... Whoever finds the feve is crowned king. Try it. Fun and yum. ”

“ Boulange has great big wooden tables for sharing as well as two-seaters tucked against the wide windows over looking Cole St. The cafe is so very french, a great Sunday brunch spot if you're feeling nostalgic for your last european vacation.
Coffee is served in wonderful porcelain bowls with saucers. Lattes and such arrive in tall, clear glasses. The coffee-fixing station has serve-yourself silverware as well as jams, Nutella, butter, mustard--all manner of delicious condiments for your sandwich or simple baguette.
When Parisians eat breakfast, it's often just bread and coffee or hot chocolate, a meal not to be overlooked. Boulange has chewy rolls, bigger than your fist, baked with hazelnuts, apricots, apples (the "breakfast bread") or raisins and walnuts. Tartines, classic french salads (like nicoise), brioche, quiches, pastries, croissants, and of course, croque monsieurs fill out an overabundant menu of delicious snacks and meals. Enjoy the comforts of Cole Street. ”

“ delightful neighborhood bakery. Attention has been made to give it a very Parisian feel. The staff is quick and efficient, pleasant and very happy to offer suggestions. The croisants are light and flaky, and anything with fresh fruit is worth it. Coffee and chocolate (hot) are more french than American, which may be why some prefer the chain stores elsewhere. This is a place to bring a book, your writing, or someone for a slow, quiet morning conversation. We plan to return to try some of the brunch items, such as the croque monsieur and quiches. The vanilla flan looked very inviting. Oh--and I keep forgetting to get some bread to take home.
One table was having espresso and toast. Looked simple and delicious! ”

“ Great pastries, to be expected from a bakery, I mean, "boulangerie." Everything else needs a bit of work, or at least Starbuck's type efficiency. Surprisingly the coffee was not nearly as good at the Tully's down the street. Get your pastries to go and you won't be disappointed. ”
