Yeah yeah...everyone loves Nopa. So I finally tried it. Three of us had a reservation at 9PM and we were seated upstairs. It's a great space, our main server was very friendly and informative (we had about 8 servers help us). The menu was very diverse and the food arrived quickly. We ordered 5 appetizers (goat cheese and beets, calamari, squash, mixed greens with apples, walnuts & blue cheese, and this baked egg and tomato dish). The salad was wonderful, as was the goat cheese and beets. The squash was amazing (sweet, with hazelnuts I think). The server strongly suggested the calamari, which was mediocre. The batter fell off of the pieces a you picked them up. He also strongly suggested the egg and tomato dish, which was pretty good, but kind of weird. Overall it was a great meal, and the three of us walked away stuffed. Review #21508

I've been here three times, once for cocktails and twice for food. While the place is certainly pricey, I've never been disappointed by the quality. Damn, the food is good. cocktails are good too, but overpriced. The first night I stumbled in there starving after hitting some nearby bars, I tried the burger. Wow. Really. It was incredible. I wouldn't usually pay that much for a burger, but once in a while it really is worth it. I went home full and happy. The next time I went in, I was pretty sure I wanted one of those burgers again, but the place was pretty full so they sat us at the bar right near the grill. That's when I first laid eyes on the pork chops. Best. Pork chop. Ever. It was juicy, cooked just right - the thing seriously melted in my mouth. Ever since then I've been looking for an opportunity to go back and have another. If you're looking for a nice night out, I would definitely give this place a try. Review #21408

I had the burger on this first visit, and I'll go back. Food seems good, High attitude. I guess if people go and eat alone, its OK to treat like s**t. I'll be fair and say the food is good, but I called twice, no return calls and spotty service, areas for improvement. Treat each customer like they are going to eat your food to enjoy the experience. The converted the old bank space to a nice lofty & open dining space. Considering how busy it was on a Tuesday night, I was pleasantly surprised that the noise level was minimal. The waitress was nice and knowledgeable of the wine list. The pork chop, supposedly a signature dish, was WAY undercooked that we sent it back. They recooked the same piece - is that typical, or should they really give us a different chop? By the time it returned to the table, everyone else had already finished own main course. The baby back ribs was tender yet on the bland side to me. The warm olives were nice and the fries are good there. Sardines were on the fishy side. Come to think of it, all the appetizers were much better than our entrees. The deserts weren't the best - the chocolate pudding cake was a little to orange-y. The pecan pie was good, not too sweet yet not out of this world. The only thing worth tasting was the earl gray ice cream. Review #20514

My, my, my! I am not much of a drinker, but the drinks at Nopa rock! I had the Mumbai Iced Tea, which was sort of like a Long Island, but instead, it used tamarine. Then my friends and I shared a $75-bottle of spanish wine (sorry, forgot the name) at dinner. The food was quite good, and I swear, it wasn't because I had already downed 2 drinks! Go there for happy hour, if you can't stick around for dinner. At any rate, you won't be disappointed. Review #20361

I went with a group of 8 for dinner. The cocktails had fresh squeezed juices and were inventive. Our waiter was a little skittish but ended up being great. I had the steelhead and it was fresh and tasty. They had a good wine list and the salads and apps were fresh and different. Everyone loved what they had. We had doughnuts with carmel sauce for desert and chocolate cake. They were both the perfect touch. I will go back again and again. The scenery was relaxed and fun at the same time. Good buzz to the place, can't believe it was a laundromat before because it had so much character. Review #19093

I was all set to be disappointed because I'd heard so much hype about Nopa, and I'd also heard that the place is noisy, which is my #1 annoyance since Lionel Ritchie stopped making records. But I have to say everything was right on the money. We sat along the wall under the balcony which may have tempered the noise, so that wasn't much of a problem. And the meal was the best I've had in a restaurant in a long time. I especially recommend the seafood stew which is a generous and voluptuous bowl of fish, calamari, and an intense sauce. We shared a bowl of warm olives, which has extra oil at the bottom for dipping your bread. Yum all around. Review #18440

I had high hopes. I think that after reading just about every review (there are 270 right now) on y**p that I was going to be in love with NOPA from minute one... In a way, I was, our reservation was on time and the lay out of the place was really nice, cute even. Our server was unrushed, cute and laid-back. After getting a bottle of syrah (I should have got some direction here, it was kinda blah) we started with a spinach salad to share. I was really impressed with the salad and in retrospect that was the best thing that we ate.. I think that I was dragging a finger through the dressing as the plate was being taken away... it was that good. ANYWAY. My friend had the flat bread with onion, Gruyere and bacon... I had a pork chop... In fact... I had on of the biggest pork chops of my life... I think that oddly enough with both dishes that there was just too much of them. I think that pairing this down into more concentrated quality of food with a few extra fl Review #17704

I have heard various reviews of NOPA, but I have had nothing but great experiences there. Its a new and hip restaurant right now, blunders and mistakes are to be expected in their current hectic environment. Nonetheless, the first time we went there, we had one of the best experiences ever. Not only was our server attentive and knowledgable, when asked a question she could not answer about pairing the perfect wine with our meal, she called the somallier. Let me fill you in on a little secret. This is a neighborhood place. People with the right attitude will have a great experience there everytime, those that do not, won't. ;-) Review #17491

One of the best experience to date. I had two great women to eat with in a gorgeous space. The food was amazing. We shared the bean appetizer as well as the ribs and then I had the seafood stew entree. Service was great. Best of luck to this new place. If things stay the same they'll stay in the game. Loud and pretentious--hey, maybe that is what life in the trendoid world is all above. Kitchen towels for napkins, wooden clothes clips for the check????? whatever. OK, the food--passing fair, big chunks of meat for the carnivores, not much for vegetarians. Beer list great, wine list all over the map. Service is everywhere and no where at the same time. Any number of servers can pop up at your table and some even manage to reach across your face while you are eating. Tables are practically on top of each other and the bar is jammed packed. Oh yeah, lots of good looking people. What Lulu's was, this now is--a cafeteria for those who really miss eating in those large noisy spaces we enjoyed in college. Review #16201

I love NOPA. For me, it gets everything right. The atmosphere is great. Very lively and fun. The food is fantastic. May be "been there, done that" for some, but I think there are some really nice takes on what is quickly becoming an over done, often poorly executed food genre; comfort food. The burger rivals one of my fancy burger favorite's, Zuni. Order it medium rare though, that grass fed meat can be dry. The Gigante bean (can't remember exactly what is was called) app. was super good. They have a nice wine list and the service on my five visits has been super friendly, a seeming rarity in the city it seems sometimes. Oh yeah, the hot chocolate is the bomb. Review #15536

I try to go to places that people rave about w/ low expectations. Even w/ low expecations, I can't say I would go again. Good points: pinot decent ( don't know about $9/glass), flat bread okay, ambiance okay. Bad Points: slow service, been there done that food, high prices for what you get. However, i was not going to give it a negative rating b/c it is different and okay. I suppose I might try it again. I don't know.... Review #15025

I've only had dessert and drinks here. The creme brulee was wonderful! The crust was perfect. The elderberry gimlet I ordered for a beverage soured my stomach. It was an effort to get through it. UPDATE We went here for dinner and had a long, loud, enjoyable evening. Be prepared to speak loudly to your dinner guests. And if you don't have a reservation, be prepared to wait. The flat bread w/ gruyere, radicchio, and bacon was perfect. The goat cheese app. was warm and comforting, mild. My entree was just okay. The fish stew was a bit over seasoned, and everything tasted the same. Hubby loved the pork chop, which was the size of his head. The burger got rave reviews also. The Dark and Stormy c***tail(seriously, are the bleeps necessary?!) was so good I had to have multiple. It contains ginger beer, rum and a lime!!! Oh, and our waiter was WONDERFUL. He was laid back, friendly, and joked with our table. Review #14323

Parking is hard but the ambiance was fantastic and the food was OK The lamb riblets was a little fatty but the not so fatty parts were good. The fish was a little bland. Had a taste of my friends' mashed potato which was good. Review #14272

This restaurant is a GREAT scene with wonderful food to boot. The bar is a full bar with all kinds of fun cocktails. There is a community table in the front which would fun to sit at if you are in a festive/social mood. The interior is a revamped bank which has super high ceilings. Great ambience. THe food is great. How can you go wrong with Lawrence Jossel at the helm. My favorites were the Lamb riblets with harissa, the arugula flat bread (one of the best pizzas I have ever had in this city) and the gigantes (giant beans baked with feta and sausage topped with bread crumbs) were amazing. As if that wasn't good enough, the rhubarb crostada with ginger ice cream was out of this world. I highly recommend it. Review #13279

Thumbs way up on this restaurant. A great addition to the hood and was packed on a Saturday night. We waited quite a while for a table, but they have a really nice bar. The whole experience just go better and better through out the meal. The appetizers are good, not great. I love their french fries. The lamb riblets were a little too fatty for me and I didn't really enjoy the halibut carpaccio. The entrees on the other hand were amazing. The chicken is incredibly moist, the sole was very flavorful and the pork chop looked great. Their caesar salad is also very good. Their menu is a bit limited, though. They could stand to add a few entrees. The best part of the dinner was the desserts. AMAZING! Bourbon creme brulee, chocolate tart and a creme fraiche ice cream. I was so impressed with the service and the attentiveness of the waiters. Great space and ambiance. I will definitely be back. Review #13268

this place is spectacular, awesome, fun, good, and nice. much better than the abandoned building that it used to be, and the laundromat, and the bank before that, not that we gentry were around to remember it. a few reasons to check this place out: 1. the bar gets thumbs up for its length. 2. the servers wear stylish brown. 3. there are sooooo many bathrooms. there will probably never be a line. 4. the abso-effing-lutely large wall mural is supposed to represent the 'hood. well done. they even give a shout out to the building's history. however, there is some room for improvement. the menu is a bit limited and the sole is very boney, even after the chef engaged in a little deboning upon the request of our server. i suppose sole is just a boney fish and i should know better, but now i do! i'll try something else next time. i think they have a tasty-looking pork chop. mmm... pork chop. also, earth to the owners: we are not "NOrth of the PAnhandle!" we are ENEPA? the don't use mayo, so it taste like shit if your not ready for it, and expect mayo. I could delete that from my mind, and the burger is a 1 out of 10, its a 10. Ten is best.

they seem to be having a good time.
