I don't think I will be going back. The food was very salty and the wait staff did not seem happy. Some of the combinations really do not work fennel and apple clashed in the soup and the calamari salad with a champagne vignette not so much Experimentation for experimentations sake is not what I call an imaginative chef. I wonder if they have ever tasted these dishes Review #20991

“$12 Tuesday” lured us in on a cold weeknight for dinner. “$12 Tuesday” is a special menu consisting of $12 entrees and $6 starters. The restaurant was packed with a short wait. We sat in the high bar tables with a nice view of the dinning room and bar, both of which were hopping with social energy. It seemed like a lot of neighborhood regulars that know each other; it created a nice warm friendly vibe. I had the tomato soup and the southern Fried Chicken salad. The soup was perfect, complex flavor with a hint of chili topped with fresh warm crotons, yum! The southern Fried Chicken Salad had juicy strips of breast meat with a spicy crispy outside on a bed of salad greens, beets and blue cheese. The service was a little spotty, didn't come back for or ask if we wanted wine with dinner after our cocktails were dry. I liked the space, the food and the company. I recommend and will return (even on a non-Tuesday). Enjoy! Review #20585

Had a really good meal here tonight. My main course consisting of tilapia, shellfish, and polenta was right on the money, and the service was excellent. We were a group of six and we needed to be finished by a certain time in order to get to the theater. Our server made sure to pace out the meal accordingly and took great care of us. 2223 was the first restaurant to revitalize this strip of Market Street and I can see why it has lasted all these years. It gets a wholehearted green dot of positivity. Review #19401

Best Bloody Marys I've had! About a month ago a friend and I had brunch here-we both had the House-Made Chorizo & Pepper Jack Scramble....chorizo and eggs layered between several soft tortillas with black beans, avocado salsa and chipotle sour cream--it was amazing! You could cut through the tortillas with your fork-the textures and flavors melded perfectly. Halfway through I was stuffed, but had to keep eating it! I dreamt of having it again-so we returned--only when I ordered it the 2nd time, they had changed the dish slightly. Now the tortillas were a little chewy-a knife was a necessity and there were only 2 layers...not AS good! I will return because of the bloody marys, but may have to try something else on the menu--my friend was torn between having the french Toast or the Pancakes, but the waitress suggested the french Toast without hesitation-and she was right on-maybe I'll get THAT next time! For about $20 an entree, you can get a pretty good American meal. I easily made reservations for two on Friday afternoon for Friday evening, though we were seated in a remote window seat, away from the hustle and bustle. The noise wasn't nearly as bad as I was anticipating based on other reviews. For dinner, I ordered an appetizer in meal portion (huge) of mussels, clams, and snapper in a saffron tomato broth while Boyfriend dug into mashed potatoes, roast chicken, green beans and a skyscraper of friend onion rings erected on top. Service was phenomenal. I would -- make that "will" -- return for the sour cherry bread pudding with brandy caramel sauce. Heavenly. Spoon in hand, prepare to fend for your fair share, as this pudding is not for one. Review #16832

Good service, great food, great cocktails, love this place. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, and it's one of the only truly good places in a neighborhood full of BAD choices. Review #16711

This restaurant was definitely good, but I didn't have the overwhelmingly amazing experience that a lot of the reviewers below have had! Nothing was wrong with the entire experience. We were seated promptly by a really friendly host, in one of the two-tops in a row of about 10. We got there @ 6:30, so it was still light out and not that cozy inside, but after dark, with the candles lit, it was really nice. They had a short list of wines available by the glass, but I found something. They have this $12 Tuesday thing where they offer some entrees for $12 and some sides for $6. I ordered the potato pancakes with creme fraiche & salmon to start, which was delicious. For my entree I chose the tempura snapper which came with wild mushrooms & greens in a peanut sauce - also good. My friend enjoyed her 2223 salad and clam/mussel steamers. Review #16697

If there was a "near excellence" rating on SF survey, 2223 would get it. Most restaurants impress with the appetizers, and the entrees may be good but rarely as outstanding as the appetizers. The appetizers at 2223 were fun and savory, but my entree, which was the lamb dish, was so amazing that I am still sad I forgot my leftovers at the restaurant, and that happened 5 days ago. I can't wait to go back. Review #13284

Excellent pork tenderloin with a kind of flour tortilla topped with black beans and a lovely salsa as part of $22.23 prix fixe menu, which also included arugula/red beet/goat cheese salad and choice of desserts. The fondant au chocolat was delicious. Everything tasty and beautifully served. Ambiance nice - a little noisy but no excessive; and the place was full by the time my party left. Service was friendly although a bit slow at times. Overall, based on this experience, give 2223 Market a strong positive rating. Review #12133

Great spot in the Castro. The seasoning could be better, but food is definitely better than average and the portions are pretty generous. The crowd and the ambiance are pretty lively. Nice place to dine with friends. Review #12100

Great place! The food is excellent. We had quesadillas, iceberg salad, warm goat cheese for appetizers, then salmon, pork rib and lamb shoulder, everything was really good. The lamb is really tasteful, even a bit strong for lamb, but I like it like that. Might be too strong for some people. Decent wine list. The De Ponte Willamette Valley Pinot Noir was a perfect match, although a bit pricey ($52). The staff is pretty friendly. Review #11356

I'm revising my review from last year that said 2223 was attractive and the service uneven. They've painted the interior a dingy brown that has totally done away with the charm the yellow walls used to have. Maybe the depressing color is getting to the waiters, since the last two times I went for brunch, the service verged on comatose. I'll cut waiters a lot of slack if they'll just bring me my damn coffee, but even that seemed beyond them. Review #9831

One of the nicest places in the Castro. I really like the bartenders here and they have a happy hour that nobody seems to know about. The restaurant is stylish and the food is tasty if a little pricey. Sunday brunch is great....take your relatives when they come to SF to visit! Review #9779

Wonderful food, classy but laid-back ambience. Noisy? sure but not excessive and the food in itself is worth the visit. It's not a place for a quiet tete-a-tete supper but, for an exhilarating evening surrounded by happy noisy people, make a reservation NOW! Review #9352

I recently returned here for dinner and was even more impressed than on previous visits. The food and service are top notch. The summer corn soup was one of the most amazing things I've ever had. It is a friendly and lively place (and yes a bit noisy). I would love if they added more vegetarian entrees to the menu. Review #9212

I have had a couple of very lovely meals here. The roasted chicken comes close to Zuni's (but no cigar). The atmoshpere gets a little frenetic feeling when it gets packed, but if you are in the right mood, it adds to the fun. Review #9019

We frequent this restaurant and have always had a great experience. The ambience is wonderful with the changing art and happy crowd. The food is delicious. And the service is downright pleasant; you actually want to ask the server to sit down and join you. We often take out-of-towners here and they love it. Review #6577

This is the kind of place where you can go after work on a spontaneous arrangement with a friend and wind down and relax. The staff here are very personable and warm. The food is tasty and they always try to use local, organic ingredients. They also have a prix-fixe deal but that's only worth the money IF you were already planning to have a dessert. Otherwise, just get the regular starter and main and you'll come out ahead. The wine list isn't spectacular, but their corkage is $12, which seems to be on the more reasonable side these days (in the age of $15+ corkage charges!). Parking can be difficult sometimes, but plan accordingly when making your reservations. Review #5257

Very good, somewhat expensive American fare. Roasted meats are particularly good, heirloom tomatoe salad was the best I've ever had. Elegant dining room, but very relaxed atmosphere, so good place for a date. Sunday brunch is amazing as well, very rich and creative menu. Review #5178

I had the best meal of my life here. They have an amazing gorgonzola bread pudding that is to die for. Excellent wine list. It is a very nice restaurant, but very casual at the same time. The waitstaff is excellent. They change their menu up quite a bit and have interesting offerings. I highly recommend 2223. Review #4886

What did you say? I can't hear you - I am all the way over on THIS side of the table.....Eating at 2223 is like being at a giant gay dinner party/ shuttle launch- the appitizers are pretty, everyone is excited and the staff tells you that you're fab, but you cant' hear any of it. Wear ear plugs (they help with digestion), have a cocktail at the bar and congratulate yourself for finding a restaurant where your loudest friend will not embarasses you! Review #2503

Thanksgiving dinner at 2223 was incredible. The food was outstanding and the service smooth and flawless. Started with celery root bisque with a crab pastry thingy. Soup was full of flavor with hint of celery root and fresh herbs. The salad was with smoked trout was pretty good but I felt the trout was a little strong for the dish but my partner really liked it. My partner had the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings. He really loved it. The mushroom crepe and desert rocked. Review #2171
