“ I had a great time here with a girlfriend. We had a reservation but decided to sit at the bar...a great choice. The bartender, Dave, was super friendly and made me several different concoctions that were all very lovely. For food we tried a few items: grilled romaine salad---delicious, mushroom and onion pizza, a lovely thin crust but slightly dense in texture, perfectly balanced and a side of their mac & cheese---YUM. They were doing the dine about town menu and it looked great! french onion soup, seared scallops and geez...some dessert...I'm not a dessert person so it didn't appeal to me.
I will be back to try the sliders :0)

“ I had a lovely time here. I could not resist ordering the Sliders. Yes, it seems like every restaurant has their own version of a gourmet burger so the concept seems over appreciated and unoriginal. But the sliders here are AMAZING and prob one of the best in the city! Two minis on focaccia bread with caramelized onions and cheese! You can order the burgers any way you'd like. I chose med-rare–completely juicy and luscious! I took home the other one, nuked it in the micro the next day and it was still super moist and delish! They have other great options if you're not totally keen on the burger idea and everything is really tasty. RNM is definitely a sure thing for any occasion that you're celebrating or just for a cozy dinner. ”

“
The atmosphere is comfy cozy, although they pack a lot of people in this small place. I've never had a bad dish, the food is pretty consistent and very tasty. The duck soup is one of my favorites but the Mini Burgers, Filet Mignon, Pork chop and Mac & Cheese are all crave worthy. I recommend trying this place but do make a reservation ahead of time and also ask for a table upstairs. ”

“ Went to rnm for my wife's birthday and had a good time. The space is cool, well designed (except for the random tv over the bar, which is distracting). It was a little cramped -- we couldn't help but listen in on the table to one side, and then we made friends with the guys on the other side. The meal was almost entirely fantastic: great bottle of gigondas, delicious apps of steak tartar and beet salad; entrees: great seared tuna and a fabulously rich filet mignon served over a thick crostini with a red wine reduction; and a gooey chocoloate cake served with a very exciting sparkler! One big negative: horrible espresso, tasted burnt and bitter.
All good so far... then the service. It was technically very good. Server answered our questions fully, made recs, and everything was very well timed and professional. It was totally lacking in any kind of warmth, though. Call me old-fashioned, but I still like to feel welcomed when I dine out.
All in all, though, we had a great meal. ”

“ The food here is deee-licious. I had the Kobe Steak, which by the way was my first time having it.....and it was everything i thought it could be. It was sooo good! I had a taste of the Lobster w/ the risotto and it is absolutely the best combination that i've ever tasted. I also suggest that you order the macaroni and cheese. TO DIE FOR!! Kraft and Velveeta doesn't have nothing on this!!!! Our host was quite gracious enough in giving us an option to sit downstairs in the main dining area OR upstairs in a lofted private dining area as it seemed. Our server was attentive which is always appreciated. I've already recommended this place to one of my friends to check out and i'll definitely come back here again soon. ”

“ I went here last night for my birthday dinner and I absolutely loved it!! The service was excellent. Our lovely server was not only very attentive but took the time to talk a little about each dish we had. My husband and brother had the lobster. I took a little taste of and it was cooked perfectly and the risotto that went along with was to die for!!!! My brother's girlfriend and I had the kobe steak. I've never had kobe steak and my goodness I took the first bite and you had me at hello! Like butta'..! It was topped with crisp string beans and thinly slice fried onion rings with a side of delicious potatoes. We also had a side of their mac and cheese, which I will probably order every single time I go here, I didn't know whether to hug the chef or smack him because it was so tasty, perfect cheesiness! For dessert I had a ricotta and marscapone with straberries dish. It was a perfect light dessert for such a heavy meal. I look forward to coming here again...and again... ”

“ I cannot say enough about the place. Contemporary decor, the upstairs in really comfortable with a combination of sofas and chairs and dim lighting. Perfect for that special dinner or just because the food is out of this world. They have a pre-fix menu $25.00 which is well worth it. Every dish I tried was presented with artistic fair and simplicity. If you want a sure bet, this is the place, I suggest making reservations because it gets booked up fast. ”

“ Like drinking flat champagne with the fizz gone outta it, there was no sign or evidence of any "former" rising star chef. Justine Miner, who was named a rising star by the SF Chronicle in 2003 no where to be seen in the open air kitchen. She also apparently was "no where to be seen" as well in what arrived as far as cuisine since only pedestrian, unremarkable food appeared. Initial warm hosting immediately diminished by "attitude" waitperson scowling with every question about the menu. When asked for recommendations, the reply was: "It depends on what you like." Pre-sliced dried-out bread was brought. Forgettable appetizers. When asked about the foie gras mousse, the reply from the waitperson: "Well, it's chilled and I don't like chilled foie gras." Run-of-the-mill lamb riblets with overly-sweet sauce, totally forgettable; decent oversalted duck confit and funky rack of lamb, decent lemon tart. Nothing in evidence to indicate a "rising star chef" and nothing to recommend the joint. ”

“ Went there on a Friday night. The food is awesome: I had the charcuterie plate, the home-made pate is great, and the rillettes are really close to my mom's :). The veal on polenta was also very good.
The wine list has a good number of references. We had Sauvignon Blanc from Mendocino and Pinot Noir from Willamette River, excellent wines.
We were 6, had 3 bottles, the check was around $70 per capita; I think it was worth it.
The ambiance is great. Valet parking is a must.
Only downside: our waitress was not super friendly. The other staff was really nice, though. ”

“ Robert, the owner, is an absolute doll! The food is fantastic - don't miss the mac & cheese & pizzas. All my girlfriends & I went there for our Wig Wednesday tradition. A lot of other restaurants could have been freaked out by 14 women wearing strange wigs - but not RNM. They loved it. We loved them.

“ Great decor! Somewhat loud and stuffy upstairs, but the atmosphere and cuisine more than makes up for it. RNM serves an inventive fusion cuisine that is truly delicious. Maybe it should be called nuevo-american ? The entrees are all around $20. I loved the celery soup and the tuna entree. The desert cones served on a small wooden rack, also great! I'll have to go back and try the other items. AND they have a judicious valet parking.

“ My partner and I went here for dinner after driving by sooo many times. We both loved our meals. Duck was delicious. So was the pork. They had a nice bar and decent number of half bottles of wine. I loved the style, wallcoverings, and lighting. I would come back. The staff was friendly. The downers were that we were cramped up against another table of six large men making it hard to relax and fire engines kept driving by outside which I can't say if that happens all the time. ”

“ After crap service at Hawthorne Lane, coming in to RNM was a welcome experience. The host and all of our servers were very attentive and friendly. The decor is warm and soothing, and the food & wine selection is great! I'm always lured into a restaurant with their prix fixe deal ($25 if you order before 7pm), but then always see other items on the menu I can't leave without trying (I think that's what they WANT me to do). My friend did the prix fixe and had cauliflower soup w/duck, ahi tuna with waxed green beans, and the chocolate souffle. I had the foie gras terrine w/grilled peaches (a nice new alternative to the usual fig-foie gras combination) and the veal w/polenta & mushrooms for my main course. Both were divine! I would definitely love to come back here and give them my money. I wish they had a few more wines by the glass--I only had 4 reds to choose from (but they were good!). ”

“ I am so glad I finally went here! First of all, the gentleman that is the host is super friendly (without being annoying). After a warm greeting we were taken upstairs to a table that over looked the whole very glamorous looking room. I agree with the others, I am not a fan of the TV, but it isn't too bad. We started with two fun cocktails It was 645 so we got the Prixe Fixe. I started with he corn soup (delicious) and had the mini burgers (awesome! One of the best burgers in town!). My friend had the grilled romaine salad and the pork chop and reported them excellent as well. We were both thoroughly stuffed, but of course had dessert. I had the sorbet trio in waffle cones (great!) and my friend had the brownie sundae and expressed the desire to lick the serving dish it was so good. As we left the kind host chatted with us and made us feel even better about the fantastic evening we had here. I highly recommend this place. ”

“ WOW! If I ever want to treat myself and my friends to a great dinner, I love coming to RNM. The food is great and unique as is the presentation. I also had the grilled hearts of romaine (warm salad) and thought it was delicious. It is a little gem tucked away in the middle of the lower haight. ”

“ Yum! Went for the first time last night, and was very impressed with both the food and the sophisticated but casual environment. The applewood smoked lamb ribs are my new favorite food! Corn soup was tasty. The wild mushroom pizza was good, although it had a bit too much cheese. The special last night, a vietnamese-inspired fish dish, was very good -- served over fried rice with peanuts and mint and julienned bell peppers on top. The brownie sunday didn't balance very well (needed maybe some vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate), but the warm chocolate hazelnut cake was incredible. We saw some other tables being served the berry tart, and wished we had order that (next time!). I agree they could do without the flatscreen, but it was just showing old movies (without subtitles) so not too distracting. We'll definitely be back (and I *nearly* got an another order of the ribs to take home...). ”

“ Enjoyed a delicious meal here in a comfy ambiance. The appetizer of roasted romaine lettuce was delicious and the main course of pork roast a delight as well. I was facing away from the television set so was not distracted by it - but find it to be rather out of place in a dining establishment. Overall, a very positive experience. ”

“ This is a restaurant that looks supremely out of place in the lower haight, and I've always found it somewhat intimidating. Boy am I glad I finally ventured in with the SFsurvey crew. Once inside, the decor is amazing. It's very modern but not pretentious at all, and ditto on the friendly staff. The corn soup with lobster mushrooms was like...um...le petit mort. Look it up. The seared tuna was also quite good, though not as saliva-inducing as the soup. I'd definitely go here again now that I know you don't need a secret password to get inside. ”

“ The exterior is quite mysterious and gives little indication as to what lies inside. The décor is sleek and urban yet warm and inviting. RNM offers a comfy loft for private parties, complete with two sitting areas, flat screen TV and a large dining table. The loft accommodates 20 for a sit down dinner and 30 for casual drinks and small plates. The menu is inventive, offering many unique yet well thought out combinations. I started with the Brentwood corn soup w/ lobster mushrooms, the texture and balance of flavors was perfect. I also tasted the grilled hearts of romaine, which was outstanding. I would come back just for that salad! For my main I had the grilled pork chop w/ a riff on the traditional potatoes au gratin, very nice. The flavor of the sauce was right on; unfortunately the pork chop was a bit over cooked. Over all it was a positive dinning experience and I would return. ”

“ Obviously, you can see by my photos what everybody is talking about. I had the pre fix menu, and choose the grilled hearts of romaine, it’s was weird in a good way, I have never had [grilled Lettuce] before, it was tasty with lots of flavor but I think I’ll try something less exotic next time. Next I had the much talked about mini burger, it was good, and a thinner bun would have made it outstanding. My sorbet desert was superb, nobody seems to talk about sorbet’s that taste like frozen concentrate, I love it when they do. The lemon sorbet had lots of zing!!!!!!!!! The fresh waffle cones were yummy and I saved them for last. Conclusion: High design, exotic food and good value overall. ”

“ The interior is sleek and trendy. I don't much like going into the Haight for anything, but this place is worth it. The foie gras mousse was fantastic and I couldn't resist the "White Castle" style burgers. I seem to always get placed next to the cackling drunk group. Next time I'm going for the loft. ”

“ RNM continues to offer superb food combined with excellent service. The combination of ingredient in the Brentwood corn soup w/ chanterelle mushrooms is perfect: it is NOT a cream-heavy soup. The heirloom tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella and avocado salsa has an interesting combination of flavors. And the mushroom pizza with caramelized onions and fontina cheese is still a winner. After eating that food, I did not have room for dessert :-)
Kudos to chef Justine Miner and her attentive staff. ”

“ It's like Frisson without the crazy prices. Very happening decor. Maitre d is wonderfully inviting and friendly. Remembers your name after the 1st visit.
If you go before 7pm and order before 7pm, you can do the 3 course meal for $25. However, these are the tried and true dishes such as - white castle burgers, pizza, pork chops.
we had the fried tomatoes with mozzarella. crispy outside, smooth cheese and salsa.
desserts have often been way too sweet but just had the sorbets. great presentation (3 cones) and flavors were deep with alcoholic and not crazy sweet. Also had plum tart - yum! ”

“ outside is pure rogue haight and inside is a very hip, ny-orkish feel hot spot loft. the lighting is very dim, it has a metal theme going on, flat screen tv's at the bar and upstairs in a lounge where they play old rat-pack movies. the food is okay, rack of lamb, mini-burgers, pizzas, good desserts. the environment is really sexy and worth taking a peek and having a cocktail. try to get a table upstairs to see all the action downstairs in the kitchen and the dining area. ”

“ Gem in a tough neighborhood
I am completely blown away by the beauty of the space at RNM. It's like walking into a different world from the grittyness of the lower height. Definitely one of the most NYC like of all restaurants in SF. I love this place having dined here three times. Read the Chron review for detailed info about the dishes there. Suffice to day that it takes the best of Dine and improves upon it. Lots of braised meats with lovely sauces. Small and large plates are designed for sharing. If you don't mind having to deal with parking and the hood it's in you'll find that this is worth the trek. ”

“ I sort of thought I had to know a secret knock before entering this place because of the veiled exterior. Once inside, the host was super nice and seated us on lounge chairs. But, there was a huge TV behind my head and our waitress wanted to rush us. The arugula and beat salad was excellent, but my mushroom/carmalized onion/ truffle oil pizza was soggy in the middle and the crust had zero flavor. I'll certainly go back and try new things. I wish they'd turn off the freakin' TV! ”
