12/07 Sat. Bistro Jeanty is such an overwhelming place. Very french interior, cozy & homey, filled with jolly diners, and amazing food. We all shared the famous tomato soup with puff ($9) and sweetbread with shiitake & garlic ($15). The thick & creamy soup was divine, the sweetbread tasted heavenly like no other body parts! The flat iron steak ($26) was so-so, but the wine sauce with potato bits just saved the night. The pike quenelles with lobster sauce ($13 app) reminded us how simple & elegant a french dish can be. The home-cured pork belly and foie gras slices with lentil ($14 app) were tastyr & exotic all around. The best dish of the night went to the cassoulet ($24). Duck confit, sausage & bacon, all buried in baked white beans, and covered with an herbal bread crumb crust. Overpowering food, insanely delicious. When desserts came, we were relieved that the banana cream pie and chocolate brulee ($9-11) were able to soothe our exhausted senses. Friendly servers. 4* Review #20564

Had the absolute best Lemon Sorbet here. It was served in a hollowed out lemon skin, with the top placed like a little cap on top of the sorbet. My first bite produced a scrunched-up face as the tartness of the lemon hit my taste buds. My mouth waters from the memory of it! Too often I've had sorbets that are sweet without a trace of tartness. You have to have the tomato soup....yes, there is a reason that every person there has one sitting in front of them. The Coque Au Vin has a rich red brown sauce. Don't think you can go wrong with anything here and the prices are very reasonable. Review #15629

Very few places so completely take me back to the french bistros in Paris as does Bistro Jeanty. Every dish is a hit. Don't miss the daube de'boeuf and the coq au vin. The tomato soup en croute is heaven in a bowl. A ridiculous number of amazing deserts await the end of your meal. Only one disappointment. Over the years more and more of the french wines on the list have been displaced by Napa Valley selections. OK, you are in Napa, so you should have some local choices. But it's a shame to eat such wonderful french food with typical over extracted, over oaked, Robert Parker porn wines. It's fine that the Napa Valley has developed it's own style of Americanized, loud over bearing wines that Mr. Parker loves to promote, but I would much rather have an elegant french original with my lovely french meal. Send me hate mail and tell me I am a wine wimp if you must. Review #15535

I loved Bistro Jeantys. We had a 830 reservation and we slept through it after a long day of wine tasting :0). We got there just before they closed at 10 and they were most gracious. The atmosphere is cozy, romantic and yet still comfortable. Everything was perfect. All bistro style fare and done just as it should be. Steak frites and foie were fabulous as was the wine. Definetly recommend. Review #15486

Phillipe Jeanty's Bistro Jeanty in Napa is probably the best french bistro next to Bouchon. Everything from the apps down are outstanding. A charming, cute restaurant bringing tasty treasures of buttery/garlicky escargots, perfect foie gras, an outstanding french onion soup, tomato bisque baked in in puff pastry and escarole w/bacon and an unctious soft boiled egg...that was to start! The steak frite w/perfect fries and the braised kobe short ribs falling off the bone completed an amazing dinner. The sauteed sole and ridiculously rich pork belly with foie gras on top are other winners. Outstanding attentive service, you won't be disappointed. Phillipe honed his skills as the executive chef @ Domaine Chandon, then opened his winner, Bistro Jeanty in Napa...but when I need hearty french, I'll cheat and hit Jeanty's @ Jacks in SF. . We had an early dinner here once the wineries closed & were very satisfied w/ the food, professional service, & prices. The term bistro seems quaint & misplaced for the level of cuisine & service provided. We started w/ the excellent escargots & quenelles de brochet. Our entree selections were rib eye steak w/ french fries, hanger steak w/ potato gratin, 2 cassoulets, & sole meuniere. I enjoyed bites of my companions dishes, especially the sole. I had cassoulet for the first time. I was taken aback by the saltiness of the confit & overall heaviness, but could appreciate the rich, braised duck, homemade sausage, & beans. I was pleasantly surprised that the dish took on a mellow, complex & less salty quality when I ate the leftovers. The climax of the evening was the wonderful desserts: chocolate mousse creme brulee, apple tart, & lemon tart. Need to try the tomato soup in puff pastry next time! A lady @ the next table made priceless orgasmic faces with each sip of her soup! Review #14599

One of the best lunches I've ever had! It's in Napa, so it's a good rest stop while you're doing your wine tasting. We tried the tomato in puff pastry (like a chicken pot pie, but with tomato soup) and that was delicious. The escarole salad with bacon and soft-boiled egg was like a melding of breakfast and lunch, but better. The cassoulet was a little too rich, but it's perfect with a good red wine. We also tried the ribeye and the sole meuniere and they were just as good. I highly recommend going for lunch. Review #14360

Positive Cuisine: French (Bistro) Napa
After eating here on a day trip to Napa, we returned with friends just returned from France. The menu is heavily influenced by typical french bistros and the decor reminded our friends of their time in Dordogne. Everything we tried on the menu was outstanding - steak tartare, sole meuniere, cassoulet, coq au vin, the appetizers. The frites are delicious and charmingly served wrapped in paper in a water glass. Wine list is limited, but a good variety of choices. Most patrons in Napa bring their own recently purchased bottle anyway. The large dessert list made choices very, very hard, but everything from the citron sorbet to the tartine was delicious and beautifully presented. Nice, but small bar area with a really engaging bartender. Great place for lunch as well with an outdoor patio available. Reservations are certainly suggested, but you can often get in for an early dinner without them (especially before the tourist season). Review #14149
