“
I've been here about 1/2 a dozen times and each time I walk away w/a different experience. Today wasn't any different. After perusing the menu I choose the bacon, caramelized marmalade onion and Bleu Cheese Omelet w/an extra piece of toast. Sounds good! What's up w/the 1 slice any more, hmmm. Oh well, I dive in and am immediately taken aback. There are more onions than bacon and it's so sweet it overpowers the dish. Not to mention I had to hunt for the sprinkles (literally) of bleu cheese. O.K., so I start picking out all the onions to find very little bacon. Next fork full is the potatoes. Now they look good but are luke warm. Meal is going down hill at this point. O.K. you cant' go wrong w/toast right, "wrong". It's 1/2 toasted, cool and no butter. I have to find the waitress to ask for butter. Again, what's up with that. Server comes by, asks how things are I tell her, "o.k.", but not great. Potatoes are cold. She offers up new ones and I think what's the point. ”

Have eaten here twice now and not sure what to say! Unique? Different? Funky? Quantity over quality? Yes, all of the above. Doubt if there will be a third time. Just not my style. ”

Around 11pm on a Friday, diners were lingering but the crowd cleared out enough that my juicy, perfect burger ($9) came quick. Ordered a side of beautifully roasted vegetables ($7), large enough as a light meal. The sangria was nice and light. Perfect pit-stop before going to the bars. ”

“ Just came back from having dinner at Q. WOW! It was awesome! It has been a long time since I really enjoyed comfort food like this. I had the meat loaf, with really great mashed potatoes and veggies. Service was quick and servers were very friendly. The decor is cool too. You have to go in to see for yourself.

“
Not sure about this place. The wine & beer selection is awesome; salads are loaded and big. But many times the main dishes are not worth the wait. Every entree I've ordered (different ones, mind you) have tasted irretrievably charred. The wait staff is nice, and the decor fun, which makes this a good hip place to hangout with friends as long as you don't expect much of the food. ”

“ Howdy folks, have only been here once and I had the fried chicken. The breast meat was a bit dry, but the thigh meat was good. A bit pricey, and since that was the case, I would hope for the breast to not be dry. I saw some other people eating the mac and cheese, and it looked like they had tater tots on it. That is what I'd like to order next time. Definitely will give this place another chance, and try some other dishes.

“ I like its kitchy, mismatched decor - makes it seem more homey - I guess that's the point - to compliment its down-home comfort food. I always end up at a table with too much wobble resulting in the use of some handy sugar packets. Tator-tots - crispy, a tad seasoned- are a delight. They bring me back to the yester years of grade school - pondering up all sorts of nostalgia. It's not particularly a place I'd make a special trip to. The food (besides the tots) didn't impress me all too much. I don't think dinner would be in my line-up but brunch is great - I love the eggs benedict and Mr. Espresso coffee. ”

“ This place is pretty good. I have been quite a few times some things I love some things I can do without. I love the salmon burgers, hamburgers, fries & mac & cheese. Their ribs are also pretty good, served with baked beans and fries. The meatloaf I think is awful, to dry & not enough gravy. I tried one of the appetizers on the special board the other day - shrimp in beer & cream sauce with cajun spices, it was amazing! It will be hard to resist ordering it in the future. Other than the meatloaf the skimpy glass of wine I got was disappointing. Be prepared to wait for a table and talk really loud - it gets very noisy.

“ I am in disbelief that this place has the number of positive ratings as it does. I have given this place 3 chances. Each time I have eaten here, it has been w/ different people. Every person I have eat w/ has said how anticlimactic this place has been. The menu sounds way better than the actual food. Again, I am in disbelief

“ My wife ordered the Ultimate Vegan Grill and thought it was good, but not great. I had the BBQ ribs which were excellent although I must say the piled up food was rather hard to cut on such a full plate. Both of us agree , however that we will be returning to this restaurant which although perhaps not perfect is quite interesting and seems to beg a return visit. ”

“ If you want good comfort in the inner Richmond, check out Q restaurant!
Their Mac & Cheese is so good and has a crumb topping which is always the way to go... the fried chicken and meatloaf are also very good! The wait is never to wait too long... the only this is parking in that area is always difficult, but where in SF is parking not difficult! ”

“ Up until my most recent meal here, I have always had a great experience (simply the food was blah). I would never recommend going for dinner. Too many people and lousy parking. But it's worth a lunch or brunch visit. I like the fish tacos, meatloaf or the steak burrito. The staff has mostly been good. It stays on my sunset list.

“ i truly can't figure our why this place is so popular – they give you a lot of food for the money and the atmosphere is hip – but the food really isn't very good – at lest to my tastes - and the wait is often way too long – there are much better reasonable places on clement - but maybe not as hip - ”

“ Came here for dinner with a friend. We waited for maybe 10 minutes as it was pretty crowded in there. I had the meatloaf which was GREAT, since i'm not a huge meatloaf fan (due to bad meatloaf in the cafeteria while growing up.) They've got a good amount to choose from, on the menu and from the specials. looking forward to going back again. ”

“ This place is a gem. The fried chicken is perfect! Inventive and filling cuisine. The owner knows wine and has a great wine list. One of the best comfort food places in the city. The decor is funky and fun. Thee place to go on a rainy SF night for great eats that will warm your belly. ”

“ I can't believe I never came here since I live in the neighborhood! Had their burger and fries. The fries were so addictive I finished it and wanted some more! It was a little spicy and there was lots of garlic. The burger was also good. It wasn't served on a bun but on some kind of bread (I forgot what it was called) but it was good. The service was friendly too. ”

“ um, they have mac'n cheese with tater tots on top! need i say more??? i liked this place a lot! The atmosphere is comfortable, really neighborhood-ey, and the prices are totally reasonable. I will definitely go back here. Had the apple crisp for dessert and my only complaint is that they served it with whipped cream and not ice cream which would have been better. ”

“ I love, love, love this place. This is the kind of restaurant that is rare here. Tasty food, high quality and great prices all in one place. The atmosphere is homey without being hokey and hip without being snooty. I love it that anybody can find something great here. Bring your vegetarian friends, your dieters and your just ready to have some good comfort fooders. The free range burger and fries were great. The Mac and Cheese was over the top covered in a layer of Tater Tots, but very tasty. We had a great calamari appetizer and the apple crisp for dessert, while not terribly crisp, was very tasty. Service was nothing special, but adequate. The wine list is extensive and varied. My friend and I got there just before 7pm and waited about ten minutes. By the time we left it looked as if the wait was more like an hour. Plan accordingly, but with a nice bar to hang out at, it shouldn't be too bad any way. We need more places like this! ”

“ vegetarians are happy at Q. So are meat eaters and beer aficionados. Try the mussels appetizer, but order the fish tacos as a full (though light) entree instead. The Vegan Journey Grill should keep all vegetarians quite happy with the large plateful of perfectly grilled vegetables, incluing yams.
The dishes are plentiful and homey. All the food is warm and nostalgic and hot. Skip the ribs, if you're a barbecue fan, but savor the tator tots, mac-n-cheese, or calamari if fatty cooking is what you desire. Weekends tend to be busy, but go ahead and kill a half hour at the bar with a Boont--all the better to enjoy the boisterous atmosphere.
Have the apple crisp for dessert. It's delicious. ”

“ Q isn't bad--I like the atmosphere, the mashed potatoes are good...I'd really like to try the Mac n Cheese & tots. However, the food that I've had (tri-tip, fried chicken, meat loaf) are all just ok--not WOW. ”

“ The décor is a whimsical mix of industrial Sesame Street and Pee Wee’s playhouse, creative, fun and casual... your inner child will love it. I had the wild salmon sandwich w/ lime aioli and garlic fries, yummy. American comfort food with a twist at a reasonable price. Seems kid friendly, they serve mac and cheese and tots! I liked it and look forward to trying dinner here. Today’s review was brought to you by the letter Q. ”

“ Stoped in for lunch, this is a 1st time visit. I had the burger w/blue cheese and there garlic fry’s. The burger was high quality beef, I think the menu said Angus Beef, the Garlic fry’s are a must, “move over gordon beirsch” these fry’s have hunks of fresh raw galic, I just love them :-), décor is totally uniqe in a positive way, service was friendly & fast, note: the restroom had a STEP DOWN, when you exit, so watch out! Or remember there is a step down! :-) Conclusion: some of the best American cusine in the Richmond, price for 3=$42 about 14 per person. ”

“ Q is laid-back, with great and creative versions of down-home, american food. A menu that is friendly to carnivores and veg-heads alike. The kind of place where you can get mussels steamed in chipotle and beer, grilled corn on the cob with jalapeno-lime butter , and a glass of french wine without bustin your budget or wearing close-toed shoes.. ”

“ What a great place to eat a Sunday night dinner. Great comfort food with a little something extra. Every time I se this place reviewed in various publications I never hear anyone talk about the wine list. Andrew has compiled a serious list of some outstanding producers, vintages and varietals. I'd say it puts 80 percent of the restaurants in SF to shame when it comes down to the list. Don't even get me started on the prices. I'd say he's got most of them marked at just over retail. I've kind of tired of the food a bit but will always go back because of the wine. ”

“ I love this place but I hate the execution. Most of the dishes represent a BBQ styled dish served in a broad bowl with starch and veg and slopped with sauce (mostly). I am not a big fan for this. Even though each component is great on its own, I dont like everything tossed and smothered together. The heat profile on the dishes is just above the mid-point. I dont have a problem with this but I have had guests that do.
It is a fun crowd. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great wine and beer selection. Great layout for such a small restaurant. Check out the menu in advance before you go.
My favorite dish is the Mac N Cheese. It is a great comfort food throwback to your younger days and even is topped with tater tots! ”

“ Q Restuarant is one of my faves and my good ole standards for going out. The menu always has something exciting to choose from as well as the good ole standards, e.g. excellent steak, mac-n-cheese-n-tator-tots, etc. My favorite fare here includes the chipotle mussels (so good you sop up the broth with your focaccia), the steak of course! and some specials that I've enjoyed are the: steak and prawn pasta and steak w/ cabernet bleu cheese reduction sauce! I was a vegetarian until I tried some of Chef Andrew's beef - now I am converted! The wine list is immense, excellent selection, fair prices, a fantastic dinner won't kill your savings account ($100). If you get a chance to go to their dinner parties - I highly recommend it! ”

“ This is one of my favorite places in Inner Richmond. Great atmosphere, it's happening but never too crowded. Awwweeeesssooome battered catfish. Great place to get your veggies without sacrificing taste. Although some things get a little burnt but overall you can get a hearty meal that doesn't break your wallet. Plus alphabet magnets on the walls! how can you not love that? ”

“ Although the waits are always long, the food is worth it. Good prices, good alcohol selection, large portions. I have never had something that I didn't love. Even the salads are fantastic! Come prepared to have a drink or three while you wait for your table(the wait is substantially less for only two persons, not recommended for more than 4) ”
