“ I have finally had my first meal at any Naan & Curry location! The Palak Paneer was the best that I've ever eaten. The chicken Tikka Masala was different that I've had previously. Not better or worse, just different. It had a bit stronger tomato flavor than I am familiar with. The Tandoori Prawns were huge - I just think that I am not a big fan of that spice combo. I tried the potato filled naan for the first time and it was great. The place is very casual. Unfortunately it was pretty dirty. The carpet really needed a vaccuum, ”

“ Fast and relatively cheap. I had the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, and the potatoes with spinach. I definitely liked the endless chai. Tasted pretty good, got full on a few bucks, still prefer Chutneys or Viks if I'm out in Berkeley, or Kennedy's if you want beer and pool with your food, but now I can finally say that I've been here. All my friends would swear by this place in college, but at this point, I've been to plenty of other indian places. This was good though, especially for Richmond/Sunset area.

“
I ordered the lamb shank special and it came out pretty ordinary and too spicey. Also ordered the sea bass special and was again disappointed - although it was nicely seasoned, the quantity was not enough to fill us. The sag palek was oily and also a bit on spicey side. Probably won't go back, you'll find my tent in the Tasty curry camp. ”

“ Thought this place was fantastic when I discovered it with a good friend of mine. We go in the middle of the day or in late afternoon, when it isn't overpopulated. I really enjoyed the spinach with potato combination, and the Chicken Tikka Masala is always a safe bet. I adore the potato naan above all else. If you're sensitive to roaring spices and heat, it's very hard to predict whether your batch is going to be mild or burning. The last time I dined here, I felt a little ill... so I'm a little hesitant to return.

“ This place is ok and cheap but for a couple dollars more you can get better indian food around the corner at Masala, the place next to Park Chow. It's edible and easy but you'll smell like indian food for days after if you eat in.

“ The aroma that hits you as you get within a block of this place is good for a few seconds, long enough to get into the door, then you are overwhelmed by it if you eat there. You order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. If you have several people in your party, this can be a problem, as you may not be able to understand them as they announce the name of the dish. I had a lamb special that had a few pieces of meat in it that was dry and tasted like old meat. I tasted the Chicken Tikki Massala, which was very good. The garlic Naan is worth a trip....but I recommend getting it to go.

“ The food is average. I've gotten sick from the food. I found myself eating the Naan more than the curry. The receptionist/clerk guy seemed to have a bad attitude. Not a place I'd return to. ”

“ I really like N&C, although I agree with other reviewers who pointed out that the meat-to-sauce ratio can be a tad low. Also, they seem to chop the chicken with a buzzsaw because you sometimes find small bone shards in your mouth. Nonetheless, the naan is great and the chicken tikka masala is really tasty. I also like that big cauldron of chai at the back of the restaurant.

“ My beef with Naan 'n Curry is A) it's over priced, B) it's not very clean, and C) the food isn't quite flavorful enough. Still, it smells amazing when the wind is just right in this neighborhood, filling all of Irving Street between 5th and 9th with the simmering aroma of ghee and curry powder. But at $9 a dish, I'm going to skip Naan 'n Curry and order take-out from another place that has better food, even if it's a little out of my way. ”

“ Wonderful scents of spice tantalize you a block away from Nan 'n Curry. I have been here a few times with friends, but while the aroma hints at a great taste, I've never been that impressed. The sauces tend to be either spicy, in such a way that you are hit with spice but not subtly of flavors or rather dull. The dishes can be a bit on the greasy side as well. The naan, however, is consistently good; fresh from the oven. In terms of portions, the quantity of meat in their dishes has gone down to where you want to say, "Could I have some meat with my sauce?" or "Is this the high-sauce, low-protein version of this dish?" I do think this is one of those illusionary value dining places. If they up the protein portions slightly and rebalanced some of the flavor (and oil), along with upping the friendly factor, I think they would be able to live up to their reputation and the enticing aromas.

“ love, love, love this place. Very tasty and cheap indian eats in SF. The naan breads are huge, warm, and delicious. Take some to go and pop in the microwave for a snack later! There are many different types of curries and sauces, from tikka masala which is a very mild sauce, to vindaloo which is not for the faint of heart. The other locations get the same review. ”

“ It's an authentic indian experience right here in San Francisco (complete with arbitrary prices, roiling smoke from the indoor grill, and crowds). There are other excellent indian restaurants in SF, but this one deserves to be in the top 3-4... ”

“ Best place to eat cheap and fast indian food. Naan, whether it be plain, garlic or onion, are always fresh and warm. The meat in the sauces are always overcooked but the sauces itself are packed with flavor. The only drawback is that you will walk out of there smelling exactly like the food you just ate. ”

“ I don't write many positive reviews so you can take this for what it's worth. If you want good curry, don't come here. If you want authentic indian food, don't come here. If you are a food snob, don't come here. However, if you're not ashamed to say you like sweet and sour pork even though it's not "REAL" chinese food or crave burritos even though it's not "REAL" mexican food you'll probably like this place.
These are my favorites: tandoori shrimp, tandoori lamp chops, and chicken tikki masala! I highly reccommend all three!!!
Just for the record... I hate sweet and sour pork. :) ”

“ I took my family to the location close to China Town SF, very busy restaurant, food is excellent, the prices are very reasonable. The only indian restaurant that I liked for the price I was willing to pay. The only thing I didn't like is their free chai.
Generally indian restaurants tend to be among the most expensive, and they is not a lot of meat served, Naan and Curry is cheap and they serve plenty of meat. If you prefer service and presentation over taste this is not the restaurant for you.

“ I have a real weakness for this place. Have never gotten a chicken tikka masala with bones (don't know when you were there, maybe an off day or something?) and I LOVE the chai. I don't think anyone I know has ever had probs with this place, and I seem to constantly crave it! Just wish my boyfriend liked curry! ”

“ If you think the food is flavorless then you must be a lifelong smoker. Each dish has it's own wonderful character, from my favorite, the Boneless Chicken Krachi, to my Dad's, the Prawn Curry, my wife's, the Bitter Melon Curry, and even the kids, the "Washed" Tikka Marsala. Most of the folks we've chatted with say it's too spicy, even when ordered mild, but they've really gotten the "wash" part down. The naan is good, and the masala tea (aka chai) is seriously refreshing.
The staff is pleasant, able to deal with the constant crowds, and the get-it-yourself thing is fine. Azam, the busboy, is absolutely great with kids. If you're looking for linen napkins or pub food go elsewhere.
My only wish: add a regular sweet lassi to the mango, which is a bit, umm, mango-y. ”

“ This is one restaurant that has survived on its reputation for far too long. What it is: too expensive (despite the 'get your own silverware & water' gimmick), flavorless food (ate with 3 friends, and we all reached a consensus on this one), not worth the wait. Really, don't believe the hype. There are far better curry houses in the City. The reputation for cheap, delicious curry is not in any way deserved. ”

“ Feeling homesick for a decent curry, we finally decided to try Naan and Curry in the Inner Sunset. The smell outside the restaurant is very enticing - however, as soon as you start eating, you realise that none of the food they cook there actually smells that good. Nor does it remotely taste of anything remotely resembling curry. Chicken Tikka Massala (good english dish!!) was no more than chicken in tomato sauce with mushrooms - and that was the best thing that we ordered. No spicing worth mentioning was found in any dish - all in all a thoroughly wasted meal. Home cooked is so much better (and cheaper). ”

“ Once you figure out that water, dishes, and silverware are self serve --- this place is great. I've been 3 times and have had great food each time. Reasonable prices and decent servings. Don't be intimidated if the line is out the door - it moves fast and their seating system works amazingly well (and quickly). All the veggie dishes I have tried are delicious. ”

“ Ordered the Chicken tikka masala and lamb version too. Spices in both curry dishes were not spicy or tasty at all. It was pretty watered down too. I was a bit surprised that it was that bad. I went there again and tried their vegetable briyani -- oh, my it was incredibly salty. I know it's fast food indian food but come on now. Sad to say I don't think I plan for another visit. ”

“ Spicy! But good stuff. The chicken tikka masala rocks! Their nans are really fresh.
The prices are good too. Usually eat in the N.Beach one, but will keep coming back here. Food poisoning or soft stomaches? ”

“ we went to the Naan and curry near the tenderloin and enjoyed it, but this is is more fun. it is def. a CHEAP dinner; but you do the work..if you don't know the routine it can be annoying but they are fairly efficient. you place your order at the door, step aside for the eat it and beat crowd to thin and then by the time you are seated your food arrives. def. a bonus for those that must eat NOW. There is a bit of atmosphere here with some nice murals on the wall and a "tented ceiling" making it a bit festive. We enjoyed everything that we ordered, I just wish I had 2 orders of the eggplant as we almost finished that at the restaurant and there were little leftovers. Spinach paneer was nice as were the mixed veggies and couldn't decide whether we liked the onion or potato naan better. They were out of prawns the night we went, a bit sad as there are 5 menu items that use prawns. Next time we are doubling up as we really enjoyed the leftovers as much as the meal. ”

“ disgusting food. Chicken had bones and since when does chicken tikka masala have bones in it? I have only seen white meat use. Naan is cheap and so is the food but then again, the price speaks for the service as well as the quality of food. If you have a few bucks in your wallet and hungry, go there but then you should spare some change for the pepto bismol your gonna need. The little dude that sits by the door with his beanie can learn to put a smile on his face. I never understand the long lines they have. Put in a few bucks and go to Parnassus and 6th to Tikka Masala, just opened. ”

“ I was drawn to this place by the scent of spices. I followed my nose & ended up here. Be prepared for NO SERVICE. You order w/ whom you think is the host sitting behind a counter and you even have to set your own table (the utensils, cups & drinking water are in the back of the restaurant, right side). The food is good and the naan is very tasty. It is ridiculously inexpensive. You can eat a feast for under $10. ”

“ I love indian food, but this place doesn't really do it right. Foods are way too oily, the spices are good, but not great. And service, well there is none really, but that's the kind of restaurant it is. My friends have gotten sick from the food and they like indian too - so that's not good, food poisoning, I suppose. If I were you, hit one of the many other tasty indian restaurants. ”
