“
Totally cute and quaint. Great prices and good food. If the lines not too long, then its worth the wait. For an italian restaurant there could be more pasta + meat dishes, but the dishes they had were very good. The pork special of the house was very good, as was the caprese salad and filet mignon. They also had a nice long list of reasonably priced italian wines. One thing, its very small and not all of the seats are good. Oh, and they only accept cash. ”

“
You've gotta love this place. Tiny restaurant perfect for a romantic date or a solitary pensive weekday. The last bastion of history on the block since the Goldspike was removed by the crazy landlady (Pity that space is STILL vacant)

“ pizza at $4 a slice is worth every penny and possibly one of the best thin crust pizzas I've ever had. The Penne Bolognese with Bechamel is good, but pales in comparison to the pizza. If you have a problem with curt, even rude service, don't come here. I mistakenly opened the door and walked in, thinking that we would be seated as we saw several available tables. We were seated, with the statement, "There is a sign outside that tells you to wait to be seated." Sheesh, I'm housebroken, and would have been more than happy to wait outside if asked. To be consistent our server had the personality of a pancake. I surprise myself at what a slut I can be for food :O(
Order to go and get the food sans the attitude. ”

“ This place is amazing, and it's amazing what they do without a stove and only an oven. Don't get this place wrong, it's not a North Beach tourist trap (even though its surrounded by them) so don't go expecting some terrible tomato sauce coated creations here. This is real italian. Try the specK! ”

“ I haven't been in a little while, but this little place has consistently had some of the best, high quality, simple, tasty italian in SF. Great date spot. No reservations. I've been here at least a dozen times, probably more, and I they've never failed me. ”

“ One of my favorite little places in the city. Unpretentious, intimate, and simply good, authentic rustic italian food. A great date restaurant. It's small and they don't take reservations or credit cards, so be ready to wait in line and be armed with cash. Worth the wait and definitely a good value. The service is excellent, food is good--similar to that of A16 but better, and without the annoying crowd. ”

“ I was dubious when Barbara insisted that we eat here. Me; "It's in North beach (tourist-ville). It's tiny, they only have an oven? No stoves, really?" I'll try anything once, So she won out. This is the smallest & best restaurant on Columbus. Barbara & I waited at the door 30 minutes to get in. We got a table for 3, I took pity on the forlorn single guy in line behind us & invited him to sit with us. He was a north beach regular, ordered up his usual which seemed chosen for economy rather than culinary exploration. Barbara ordered manicotti, I had cannelloni. Sauces were subtle, well made. Textures were extremely creamy, excellent mouth feel. Obviously they are using top notch ingredients. Good food! We had glasses of what ever wine was on the chalk board, regular drinkable quality italians priced okay. We went elsewhere for dessert. I wanted to leave the crowded room & overly warm air. They should get a bigger room and buy some stoves & expand the menu. ”

“ I throughly enjoyed this place, certainly not a typical italian restaurant. I ordered the gnocci/gorgonzola dish; scrumptious! Flavorful without being overpowering. They were out of the dessert I would have love to try, so I ordered the biscotti with my decaf cap - the cookies were ok, but they serve Caffe D'melanio, a rich, mellow coffee which punctuated the meal nicely. I can't wait to return. ”

“ Great little place with delicious meat dishes, pizzas, and side dishes - I like the potatoes. You'll have a better chance of getting in if you go early on an evening early in the week. Very well-priced for what you get. ”

“ This is not your normal pizza place! This ultra tiny restaurant is a must visit IF you can get in, I’ve tried several times in the last year and have only succeeded twice. The price is reasonable and they always have a special pizza for the night. Their salads are fantastic; try the tomatoes & fresh mozzarella, with capers, basil, anchovies and olives! That’s something you wouldn’t think of putting together at home! Their lamb special with rosemary and garlic is a must try! My favorite pizza is their Garlic, anchovy & caper with tomato sauce. The prices are moderate and in fact very reasonable when you consider the quality of the product. The bad is 1st is that it’s difficult to get into unless you come before or after the rush time.2nd is that it is a little unnerving having people hovering around outside gawking in waiting for you to finish! Parking is difficult but there are plenty of paid garages. It’s on the same side of the street as the Gold Spike, but that’s another story……. ”

“ This is such a charming, intimate spot. I love eating here. The food is always fresh & the service is great. A great example of not trying too hard. The dishes are authentic with quality ingredients & are basic for the most part. Great spot to bring out of town guests. ”

“ I've enjoyed it the few times I've gone. Small place, good prices, very authentic osteria. Everything is cooked in an oven (forno) - no stovetop cooking! ”
