OK, Let's start by saying I have been around North Beach a long time and I have been around New York City and Chicago as well. Not to mention Italy and most of Europe but I live in Marin now and it's not easy to find a good italian restaurant and pizza joint. Some good pasta places but not much. Gaspare's in San Rafael is absolutely not the place to be. I went in starving and in a great mood. (I use to go have drinks when it was a spanish place and I knew that the service use to be good when the spanish guys had it. The food was good too. I thinks the chef was Hungarian which I never figured out but it worked. ) Now that it's this place, wow, it sucks. Thank god they have hard drinks. The salad tasted like it was out of a plastic bag at the airport and the pasta I had is by far the worst garbage I ever had. The sauce tasted like it was made with ketchup. BAD!! The pizza we had to order to fix the bad experience we were already having, was OK. Greasy but doable since I was still with ”

The problem was that we stopped here on the way home from the airport just returning from NYC, so I was comparing the pizza to the pizza I got in NYC. Although a noble attempt for Marin, I was greatly disappointed for the quality even in the bay area, let alone Marin. The first issue was the salads; they appear to have been thrown together out of a prepackaged lettuce mix, including nice brown ends to the leaves. Ok, no big deal, the expensive calamari (remember that's fish bait) was overcooked and lacked much flavor. One guest had the gnocchi, which were mushy and had they not been swimming in sauce, just too mediocre. My pizza was ok, and I won't complain too much since the price was moderate and not expensive, I had the anchovy and mushroom, the anchovies were mushy and falling apart, not the better quality of firm, not overly salted ones that better piazza exhibit. All in all, I was not impressed, but I would give them another try in another couple of month. ”

“ Bambie says "Give the place a score of 3 outt'a 10". Whoa! She's never that harsh when a restaurant is making a valiant effort. But the meal was a real hit & miss proposition. Safeway quality mixed greens salad with the most puckery cheap white vinegar acid & mustard dressing ever. Mouth burn. Terrible! Antipasti plate filled with ordinary stuff from bottles & cans, Columbo salami & Boars Head Coppa. And a side of the vinegar mustard poison again. Arrrgh! Thin crust
pizza was good. I give it an 8. House made Tiramisu creamy. Cannoli shells are terrible. Wine list is decent. Happy hour full Bar is making cash. Staff are friendly, smart, efficient. For the past 11 years I've lived 1/2 mile from this building. I've seen 4 restaurants come & go here. Papa & Mama Gaspare need to come up from the city to pay closer attention to what their son & daughter-in-law are doing here, 'cause the food ain't making it. Bambie; "$79 for pizza? Totally not worth it!" She's right you know. ”

“ Gaspare's has the kind of comfort italian you can go to over and over and over. The first time I experienced his pizza on Geary, it was Double Pepperoni, Sausage, Mushroom and Artichoke hearts. YUMMMY.. it's a pizza for topping lovers rather than bread lovers.
Then, when I experienced Gaspares in San Rafael, I had the Veal Milanesa, Bruschetta, Calamari, Robin's Cheesecake (super delicious and I'm not even a huge cheesecake fan) Tiramisu.. put it this way, our small party had a great time.
Try this place, add Gaspare and Danny (in San Rafael) to your family. Your kids will love this food for the next 20 years. ”

“
We visited the new San Rafael location and had the privilege of dinning with Gaspare and his lovely wife Robin. Gaspare is originally from Sicily and jumped ship over 20 years ago when he fell in love with Robin, a San Francisco native. Gaspare always dreamed of opening his own Pizzeria using the Sicilian pizza making techniques he grew up with in Italy. Over 2 decades later, their children help run the show, Danny manages the new location and their youngest daughter is the hostess. The new location serves food until midnight and boasts a full bar which has already become a local hang out. I started with a Pomegranate Martini; it was refreshing and perfectly icy, so much so I had to have another! The Calamari Fritti was next, perfectly tender fried calamari accompanied by two dipping sauces. For my main I had the Veal Parmigiana, which was so tender I could cut it with a fork. The thin crust pizza, which we ordered for the table, defiantly stands up to the Geary location. Enjoy! ”

“ Gaspare's is a San Francisco legends know for his authentic italian food and thin crust pizza. On my first visit to the new location for the group I ordered a double pepperoni, sausage and mushroom pizza & garlic bread, in my humble opinion this is the best thin curst I know of. For myself I got the steak with italian herbs, it was fantastic, just look at the photos below, it was tender, juicy and full of flavor. For desert we tried the cannoli and then we tried robin's cheesecake, both were fantastic. I'm over the top in love with gaspare's thincrust pizza and the steak I had was super delicious. If you're in Marin give it a try and watch my interview with Gaspare.
