“ Maybe it is me, but I can't understand why Pasta Pomodoro is always packed. The food just tastes salty and canned to me.

“ I can't believe Pano's was replaced by Pasta Pomodoro. What can I say about PP? It's cheap, it's mediocre and the service is so-so. ”

“ This is my favorite Pasta Pomodoro. It is large, has lots of outdoor seating, and friendly staff.
The food is pretty basic and I have always stuck to either a pasta or salad and have never been disappointed. Its a go-to place when you just don't want to eat in but don't feel like being challenged by the chef's attempts at creativity.

“ I think you have to walk into this restaurant with reasonable expectations. If you come here thinking you're going to get Bacco food and french Laundry service, of course you'll be very disappointed. ”

“ Excellent Tortellini soup brings me back again and again. This is not a corporate chain it is the ultimate American dream for this poor immigrant from Italy. The guy started with nothing and built it into a local empire and met his wife at this Noe location. He just recently accepted minority funding (20%) from Wendy's to take concept broader. He still owns 80%, controls quality, and loves his baby. Grant the guy his success and wish him well. I can't wait for the Wendy's choc-o-malts to show up on the menu though (just kidding)!

“ I've eaten at most Pasta Pomodoro (PP) locations. Do you know the PP chain is owned by Wendy's Hamburger Inc? I have a culinary point here, the food sort'a is CorpUSAKuisine (tm). Okay it's better than Olive Garden / Old Spaghetti Factory, but I group PP in company with these chains. It's not a italian family locally owned-operated restaurant.
At PP $11.95 gets you a decent main course. The pasta will not pass the taste test from a Roman visitor. Portion sizes are on the smallish side. The wine by the glass is served in short tumblers, I think that the pour is only 5 oz. Skimpy by my standards.
So with these criticisms why do I give PP a positive rating? It is what it is. I eat at one because it's:
Right there in front of me when I'm hungry, I don't want to wait for a table at another place, It is better than most fast food. When you're in Novato or San Rafael, have a meal at PP, but why bother when you're in San Francisco where you have so many superior alternatives? ”

“ Yes it's a chain, but it's also really good. I love the grilled chicken with greens and the asparagus. the soups can be great. Some of the pastas can be iffy but there's enough good to make it worth going. This isn't fine dining, it's more perfect for the after work before rehearsal need something good and reasonable situation ”

“ Seems like a nice place to me. My wife and I go to better italian restaurants, but this one is relatively inexpensive and for most items pretty good. One item I love is the black mussels which is an appetizer, but is plenty large enough for my lunch. I also enjoy the ravioli di zucca. The spinach salad is my wife's favorite item and it is quite good and large. We like the atmosphere and the service is fine. Good place for basic italian food and reasonable prices. ”

“ Jumping on the "this is SF" bandwagon that I just pooh-poohed in my last review...this is SF! Why go to an italian chain that's truly a step or two above Olive Garden & Bucca di Beppo when you can go to great places in North Beach? Okay, so it's reasonable. But the staff can be surly, the seating uncomfortable (ever wonder if they order the furniture so your butt falls asleep if you've sat for more than 35 minutes?), and I'm suspicious that sometimes the pasta is steamed to be heated (meaning it was cooked 45 minutes ago and has been sitting in a gluey clump in the kitchen).
That said, I would and do go here for lunch with friends and co-workers. It's fast, reasonable, and you know what you're getting. I wouldn't come here for a special dinner, nor would I bring someone here that I want to impress. They get an extra star for catering & putting recipies on their website. ”

“ It's a chain...and a good one. The pastas are consistently good, especially the homemade gnocchi and ravioli. Salads and desserts are decent as well, and it's all reasonably priced. ”

“ I know it's a chain. And I feel kind of dirty about it, but I spend an awful lot of time sitting outside this restaurant having a glass of wine and people-watching. The salads are of reasonable size and decently priced. ”

“ This place is what I'd call, 'ol reliable'. The food is consistently good for the price and portion size. Service can be a little slow. Kid & dog friendly. There are a few tables outside to sit and dine. Their lunch specials are a really good deal. ”

“ I love it here. I usually get takeout. They have vegetarian choices and it's nice to have ministrone that has only veggie stock in it. The staff is helpful and friendly and I always feel comfy going there, even if i'm wearing PJs and getting some munchies for the long night of studying that's ahead of me. ”

“ The hot comfort foods of starch and greens, yes. A meatball occasionally. Great cuisine, no. Good for an undiscerning end of the workday. Hey, why can't the winelist be up to adequate here in CA? ”
