This place is small - a hallway with good food, if you will. And if you show up late for brunch on the weekend you will end up hanging on the sidewalk downwind of the KFC on the corner. But once you're inside..... oh, so worth the wait. Get the french toast and go with a friend so you can share an order of benigents. (I know I'm misspelling that, but they are the lovely dough things filled with chocolate and dusted with powdered sugar. There is also a savory crawfish version.) The shrimp po'boy is also good. And they have daily specials, so if the usual stuff doesn't appeal there are more options. Review #21197

absolutely worth it! put your name on the list and wait for your table. this place does breakfast and brunch, my favorite foods of the day. my gf and i got there around noon on a friday. there was a line and we put our name on the list. we waited about 20 mins to get in (very small place) we wanted to try a bunch of stuff so we ordered a cup of gumbo, which was really fantastic, for starters. then we split an anduillie omelette with the house potatoes, and the granola pancakes with vanilla creme and really flavorful fresh fruit (blackberries, plum, pineapple, grapes). ridiculously huge portions, yes, but the food is so good. you could easily split a plate with someone. the prices are on par with other places. the staff is attentive. the food is timely. i will definitely become a regular here. Okay, I struggled with the decision of whether or not I was going to let any one else in on the existence of this place because it is REALLY tiny but Unterman reviewed it for the Examiner so it's not going to stay under the radar for long. This place is great. Real beignets! Even stuffed beignets-but I'm a purist and went for the traditional ones. I went with a work group for breakfast and everyone loved everything they ordered. Eggs with grits, biscuits with gravy, pancakes and unbelievable strawberry or butter pecan french toast. Note that Brenda's is open only for breakfast, Saturday brunch and lunch and closes at 3pm. The Civic Center lunch crowd has discovered this place so it is crowded at lunch but from what I hear well worth the wait for the Poboy sandwiches or the Croque Monsieur. Review #20470
