I arrived a little after happy hour on a Friday night and both the bar and dining area was packed. We hogged the table, drank and ate for hours until the waitstaff was yawning. When we left, the DJ was playing music for less than six patrons at the bar. Everyone was happy with their meal. I enjoyed my goat cheese gnocchi with wild mushrooms. I was expecting a little more zing, but the pesto was delicately done and I could enjoy the other ingredients instead of being overwhelmed with garlic. While I had a nice time, it's not a high priority for a repeat experience. Review #21287

I had a really good burger here. Had a nice tasty, smoky grilled flavor. Lightly spicy house made ketchup is yum and fresh cut french fries are good too. Also came with fresh tomato, lettuce and marinated sweet dill pickle slices. Yum! Review #20377

We went to The Cosmopolitan Cafe for happy hour; they didn't seem to have a lot of happy hour special drinks, but they had a lot of amazing appetizers for $5! There are two areas: upstairs and downstairs, and both were very comfortable. For appetizers we ordered almost everything on the menu (thin crust pizza, cheese fritters, artichoke fritters, ahi tartare), and they were all great and totally filled us up. We sat at the bar area, but they also have seated dinner. Review #19431

This restaurant/bar has a nice, lively atmosphere. The food is excellent and the cosmos are delish! The service is okay, but the price is really reasonable. Review #17628

If you need a place to take a special (not that kind of special) person or group--family, business associates, out of town guests--this is the place. A real "grown-up" restaurant with great food, great service, interesting wine list and swank atmosphere. I have been here maybe a dozen times. Consistently, my guests love it. The three appetizer specials are tasty and creative. Although the menu is not to extensive there is something to please almost everyone. Review #15965

It might all be down to luck, but I've enjoyed every meal I've had here. I think "underrated" is the perfect word to describe this place. The early three-course dinner (from 5:30 to 6:30) is quite a bargain at $25. Also, they do 50% off wine on Thursdays, I believe. Recent dishes I enjoyed include fried calamari and mini pizza at the bar, seafood/corn chowder with bacon, lamb pot roast with potato-thyme gratin (amazing). desserts are maybe their weakest link, but I personally don't care too much about that. Just walking into the place makes you want to have a c***tail, and they are quite good. I've also had luck with wine, usually finding something by the glass I really enjoy with my meal. My waitress on the last visit was absolutely perfect, always there when needed, out of the way when not. As I said, it may simply be a matter of luck, but I'm going to continue going back. Nice atmosphere and great service. My friends and I shared several entrees. Salmon dish was ok but the scallops were not very fresh. Cuscus & the vegetables were really good. The desserts were too sweet for me but my friends liked it. Overall, itfs a nice bar/restaurant. Review #10011

I've dined at Cosmopolitan Cafe several times over the years and I feel that it has lost its lustre. I can't quite pinpoint it, but it seems to lack soul. The service is fine enough and the food is interesting, but sitting there having our dinner, it felt a bit dull. With that said, I always recommend the appetizer "trio" if you do go there. It's pricey but worth it. I had the lobster trio and it was delicious and creative all around. The wine list is decent with a few interesting offerings but mostly safe stuff familiar to most people who enjoy wine. Review #9865

We went for the $20 Prie Fixe menu on a Friday night. Gosh it was the deal! For appetizers there is choice of soap (a tomato based soap with wild rice and bean - ymmmy!) or a salad with becon and warm garlic croutons). For main entree we had the salmon which was wrapped in corn leaf (yep sounds like Iron Chef America but taste great!). For dessert we got a choice between sorbet (3 scoops) or a chocolate short cake (served with blueberries and strawberries). This 3 course dinner costs only 20! Since it is the 5th anniversary of Cosopolitan, the deal will end by August so HURRY people. Plus, 50% off all bottle of wine. Food is tasty, great presentation, excellent and hip ambience, great service. I will definately come back! Go to opentable.com to make a researvation and you get $10 off too! Sweet!!! Review #8685

I missed my chance to dine @ the Cosmopolitan Grill before they shut down and switched over to just The Cosmopolitan. Interior is nice, different from the old 90s spot, ERICS, which used to serve up tasty martinis. Had a so so glass of pinot, lukewarm and flat Fat Tire Ale, and a good Mojito. The drinks were better than the food. The chicken wings just tasted...wrong...almost fishy. The fried olives would have tasted better hot, the crab enchilada was so so, and the sashimi ahi tuna tasted old and flavorless. It's in a great spot in the Rincon Center...but history at this location has shown that if the kitchen can't dish it up, they probably won't last. Review #7647

Geez i feel bad to be the only one with a bad review...but here it is. I have only been thier once so can't review everything...and that being said I will give it a neutral instead of a negative. Positive: Nice atmosphere, great mojito. I only tried apps but all of them were less than spectacular, by a long stretch. Tried the ahi tuna (yikes...not good quality by any means and the sauce was not complimentary), fried olives stuffed with gongonzola---surprizingly not too bad...and not really fried tasting. Chicken wings---shockingly bad: not only were they kinda soggy (i like 'em crispy) but they tasted of fish! Not sure if they had just fried a tonne of fish or if they used a fish sauce in the marinade...but it was NOT GOOD as you can imagine. The tempura green beans that I usually really enjoy at a couple places I have them were not served warm and had too much tempura batter. All in all can't give a good review ---but based only on thier apps. Review #7628

I've only been to the bar, but its been great every time. The cosmo's really are AMAZING here. The only downer is the staff - i've had a couple horrible experiences with one waitress in particular who comepletely overcharged and admantly denied it, walked away with our money and then pretended we hadn't paid... horrible. but still, the cosmos are so friggin good. I think this is one of the most underrated restaurants in San Francisco (judging by how often I go there without a reservation). Every time I go there, I am absolutely knocked out by the food. The dining room is beautiful, and sometimes the service is good. Sometimes it's just downright weird. Review #2235
