“ This is a great spot to celebrate or take a special date. Also the bar is pretty good for people watching. Huge wine list, small menu, small plates, large bill. But all in all it's still a neat place. Bartender also can make some fun cocktails.

“ The place has a great decor and perfect for a group sit down dinner kind of thing. food was at best OK very innovative but the potions were way too small for what we were paying. The service is great. reading the wine list would take a whole day. thankfully I did not have to pick up the bill at the end of this dinner. we had a good experience but I dont think I will go back. the group was very impressed at the service I must say. ”

“ I thought the service was flawless, and friendly. The food was fabulous -- both presentation and preparation. I like the dining room... was seated in a cozy alcove out of the way from any passing traffic. Not someplace I would need to go to often, however, I do recommend it as a special occassion dinner. Good wine list offering. ”

“ I have eaten here 5 time in as many years there has been more chef changes then that. Some visits in the past have been not so good. but what mars the experience is the $$$ involved. for the price I expect perfect everytime, and they have not delivered. that being said last visit was great the wine list always knocks me out and the food was perfect! lets hope they keep it up for next years meal! ”

“ Every once in a while, I get to con someone into paying for dinner at a new place. So we tried the 5th floor. I’m glad that I didn’t use my money since this was one of the biggest rips in town! I’ve never had a 40 buck rack of lamb that had 4 bones on it and was minuscule! $38 bucks for halibut better be flown in on a helicopter during the last 15 minutes! I don’t mind prices but they better produce something special! I usually don’t feel bad, but this time it was embarrassing! The food arrived at different times, so one plate was almost finished when the other arrived, there were no apologies or even an excuse! Their attitude just didn’t sit right with me! The wines are also thru the roof! The media reviews have been positive, so they must have had advance warning and a free meal, since I cannot recommend this place even if someone else is picking up the tab! There are so many better places in the City, unless you like places with attitude! ”

“ I went to this place a few years ago and thought it was excellent. I heard that the chef changed since then, however. Some friends are telling me that the food has gone downhill, and reading others' reviews just confirm their thoughts. ”

“ Fifth Floor, blah blah. Tons of "raves" but to me it was overpriced and disappointing. I have no problem spending $$$$, but I expect offerings to be up to par. Things started out fine in the bar/lounge area to enjoy a bottle of chardonay, but once seated, the mediocre food procession started. Expected fantastic expectations with the foie gras ravioli and the the sweetbreads with oxtails, but should have stuck with simpler offerings as I was not impressed. The service was flawless, but that can't save this review. Too many great restaurants for me to go back. ”

“ I went to this restaurant in 2001, and back then it was very good. Unfortunately, it now seems to have gone down in the dumps (according to the other reviewers). I had a very good experience at this place. It is a very intimate dining room, with very few tables. I was not impressed with the location as the Palomar hotel looks shabby from the outside, but the inside decor was nice, simple, and very elegant. I guess, take this restaurant with a grain of salt. I just remember it being very good, but I heard that they've changed chefs since I was last there. If you want a nice restaurant to take somebody to, try Gary Danko's or Aqua's. ”

“ GIVE THIS DOG A BONE
Expensive, chic, beautiful dining room. Read and heard tons of raves – raves – raves. My first visit wasn’t what I had hoped; things were just a little “off.” Couldn’t put my finger on it – but wrote it off as “one of those things” when things just don’t click. Gave it a second try a few months later. Based on two experiences I can now report that you’d be better off to going to Jack-In-The-Box and save your self $200. It sucked. The menu was pretentious as hell; the server misspoke about some dishes (claiming some items were fresh that were out of season); items had to be sent back because they were cold . What a drag; I’d rather chew on my butt.

“ I'm sure the tasting menu is great but at $115??? crazy. We ended up just having apps ($20 each!) foie gros ravioli (mediocre at best) crab salad (great crab...but no presentation) oxtail&sweetbread?? (bad combo)
This place is overly pretencious--in my humble opinion...lotsa better options in the city. ”

“ I hate to say it, but this place blows. The food is bland, the service completely overdone. In SF, there are so many great places to blow hundreds of dollars on dinner, skip the Fifth Floor. ”
