The feeling here is cozy, not high style ambience. Waitstaff is mostly asian, but my waiter had a thick french accent. At lunch recently I had the steak with frites, not at all expensive so I feared a tough experience. Happily, the meat was very tender, with no gristle, though slightly past the medium rare I'd specified. Frites were just right. The small green salad was a bit soggy, though, and the stuffed tomato uninspired. The little square of dark chocolate that came gratis with my espresso was a nice touch. I'd go back to explore more of the menu. Review #21192

We had a lovely early dinner here on New Year's Eve. I thoroughly enjoyed my french onion soup, duck confit and Tart Tatin-all on the regular $30 prix fixe menu. My companions loved their wild boar shoulder confit. We shared a nicely done side of mixed seasonal vegetables which was enough for 2 and stretched for all 3 of us. The restaurant is a bit on the small side making for tight seating arrangements but worth it. The service was gracious and competent. This place is a real gem and I expect to return again and again. 10/07 Thu. Le Charm is 110% charming. Ignore the arterial street locale. Get inside the ambient bistro and head to the romantic patio seating. 3 courses for $30? Unbelievably attractive. 1st: my smoked salmon carpaccio was tasty and plentiful, her smoked mackerel (seldom available) on top of frisee was darn delicious. 2nd: the pan roasted pollack with broccoli and mashed potato looked deceivingly ordinary, but the shrimp coulis Newburg sauce boosted up all the tastes. 3rd: my profiteroles were just OK, but her tarte tatin was just heavenly. Wines in our hands (MacRostie Chardonnay and Sancerre, $10/glass) and a trio jazz band playing to our ears, can it be more charming? May be, if the wine by the glass is $2 less, or the bread is oven fresh & warm with crunchy crust. But no place is 100% perfect! Le Charm is 90% there. Service was fantastic. The fixed menu changes monthly, with 3 or more choices per course. 3.5* out of 5, +0.5* for very affordable. My best french bistro so far. Review #20476

Lovely little restaurant tucked away in SOMA. Once you walk inside your stress melts away and youre transported to somewhere in Europe (far, far from SOMA). I came here for an early lunch at 11:30am and by 12:30 all the tables were full. People sat in the outdoor patio too. Service was friendly, prompt and knowledgable. The Coq a Vin was good. I hear they have a great prixe fix menu at $25 for three courses...will have to return for that. Review #18075

Discovered this cute restaurant on a Friday night and was surprised to get a table within 5 minutes. Luck I guess. The covered courtyard area provides a lovely atmosphere. The waiter actually spoke french and was able to recommend a great bottle of wine. The duck confit was quite good too. Review #17153

I went here for lunch. Had the coq au vin and thought it was really good. A very nice lunch in fact that took me away from my crappy work day. I would like to try the prix fix. Review #16089

How can you not love a restaurant that is called Le Charm? Very cute, quaint, neighborhood joint that makes you feel like you stumbled upon a hidden gem. It was raining on the day that I went, but I am sure their outdoor bistro would have been lovely for dinner. We both had the prix fixe for $28 and I thought it was an amazing deal. You get about 5-6 choices per course, with many tempting ones. The french onion soup and escargot are delicious. For the entree I had the steak, which was very decadent and cooked perfectly. The desserts were different, but good. The service was a bit slow and my one complaint is that they forgot to pack my leftovers. Overall, it is a good value with delicious french food and a little bit of that french service! Review #11378

We love Le Charm. Try the snails and wild mushroom appetiser: divine. Prix Fixe is excellent value (and they have some good wines, too). Review #11119

Four of us had lunch here today. We chose to sit on the patio which was quite nice. My wife had Califlower soup which she said was good. The rest of us split an order of House Smoked Salmon which came on toast and on top of a salad - excellent. My entree was the Parisian Gnocchi baked with Mushrooms and Bechamel Sauce which I found to be delicious. My wife tried the Coq Au Vin and found it to be rather dry and not that tasty. Another entree tried was the Mussels which proved to be very nice and the french Fries that came with it were also excellent. Grilled Salmon on Mashed Potatoes was decent although I questioned the gravy served on top of the mashed potatoes as being somewhat less than truly french. For desert two of us had the Apple Tarte Tatin which was liked by all. I tried the Chocolate Walnut Cake with Ice Cream and found it to be very good. Very intense chocolate flavor. The service was fine. A nice little restaurant that we had not been to for a couple of years. Review #9513

Very decent french bistro, with an inexpensive prix fixe option. The food is solid, but not the best in this class. That being said, it is still worth a visit. They have heated garden seating which is lovely, and the dining room is cute as well. One thing not to miss: side order of the potato croquettes - basically little balls of rich mashed potatoes that are then refried in duck fat! Lordy, thats good eats... Review #6904

It took a long time to get seated even with a reservation. By that, I mean, it took awhile for the hostess to notice we (along with a bunch of other people) were even there. It was loud indoors so we asked for a seat outdoors. It was loud out there too! Good french food for the money but not good enough to get your "french food fix." I would spend the extra money and go somewhere else. Prix fixe menu is quite a deal at $28 though. Review #6416

They lured me in with the prix fix, but I was disappointed in the end. The food offerings were okay, but definitely not up to good bistro faire...in fact, I can't even remember what I had...and that's not common. The lighting inside made the restaurant cozy, but there are better offerings out there if you're will to spend $10.00 more. Review #3874

Prix fix- a good bargain in this city. Food was good but not spectacular. Cute if you don't mind being squeezed close to other diners, and overhearing conversations. Unfortunately I do mind. Wine list mostly from french regions, and if you don't know those wine/regions very well, I wouldn't necessarily call the waitstaff 'experts'. Still give Le Charm a try, especially if you've not had french food before. Review #1970

I hate to say anything bad about it...its such a cute spot. I love the layout. The prix fix meal is a good value...but nothing to write home about . Add another $10 each to entrees and you could eat at a lot better bistros. It is a cute spot though and not bad food by any means. I still go a couple times a year. Review #1964
