One of my favorite restaurants for dependable delicious food. I always get the oysters on the half shell. Crisp and clean tasting. The rest of the appetizers look delicious but the oysters are my favorite pick especially when I know the food is fresh... Hubby loves the crab cakes and french onion soup. The main dishes are always good. Lamb or any of the beef dishes are all excellent. Never had a bad meal here. Martinis are verrrrrrrrry nice. Intimate atmosphere. Great wait staff. Nice quiet place to eat a good meal. Review #17874

"I ate here three years ago, when I was a tourist. We had a great time and enjoyed the food. Now I live here, and we had some friends in town, so we had to take them to pier 39. We decided to go back to Chic's and see if it was as good as we had thought. It was!! I can't believe how good the service was at this place. I also found the prices to be really good. My friend loved the clam chowder bowl, as he ate the whole thing. We also had the crab cakes, very good. I got the shrimp and chips and it must have been 10 good sized shrimps. If you have to go show some friends around pier 39, I highly recommend this place. Great views and stellar service." Review #16434

Over priced, mediocre food where the same vegetable medley is served with every single entree and fries are not served with the burger, only tasteless mashed potatoes. Go for the atmosphere & service, they are what make this restaurant. It's like stepping into a restaurant from SF's past.... It has a real Old Skool feel. Service is friendly but wine by the glass is WAAAAAAAY overpriced as are the full bottles. People watching is fun because a lot of older characters from the neighborhood drink & dine nightly. CASH/ATM only. Review #15554

What an awesome low key place! They are sooooo good that they do not even need to have a sign out front. If you are not careful, you will walk right by the front door. Great old school SF place to go for a steak or even a killer burger at the bar. Strong cocktails, great wine list and perfect service. Just remember, they do not take credit cards. Cash or debit cards only. Review #15470

It is a neighborhood place for steaks and chicken. My french onion soup was superb. The steak was perfect. Good service, a little noisy, we ate late and it was a great place to grab a good meal before driving home, which is a couple of hours. Cash only. Review #13561

They do a good job on fine glasses of wine and good steak. The ahi tuna tartare is not ahi, it's albacore but ahi is written on the menu. It's a steak and wine place and let's just leave it at that. My friends go there on trade so I go around once every two months. I've probably been there 20 times so I now know what to order. The bar staff is super friendly so it makes it a good place to go if your head is hanging low and you want a dry martini. Review #12196

To be honest, I gave this place a Positive rating for two reasons: the atmosphere, and the fact that they serve food late. And what an atmosphere it is, dark, flattering light, cozy, english country pub look, I really enjoy that. And the nondescript entrance adds to the whole "locals' secret" illusion. And it is an illusion, since the place is packed every night. Food was OK, definitely not great. Yes, the pepper steak is good, but I didn't find it as good as some of the reviewers on this site. I liked the mashed potatoes served with the steak, went well. Lobster bisque was flavorful, but served way too cold. Salmon was pretty good, but vegetables were disgraceful, tasteless, and dessert was only so-so. All that said, I will definitely keep coming because of, you guessed it, the atmosphere. Review #11873

Pepper steaks are the best. Service is great..but get there early...they don't take reservations and the place fills up fast. Great food and a reasonable price. Pepper steak is a must. Review #9875

One of the best kept secrets in the city. Friendly, unpretentious staff, and bar staff. Great comfort food served until 1am, and cozy bar. It's not your typical SF bar or restaurant "scene" or singles place. Ideal for a date, visiting parents or relatives or a intimate night out with friends. Favorite dishes: escargot, beef carpacio, ahi tuna, peppersteak, brazenburger, filet mignon. The wine list is short, but has good quality choices. You may catch some stars like Tom Jones out for a late night meal or even local celebrities like Gavin Newsom there for a bite. Review #4960

The atmosphere is so great, it's such a bummer that the food is really not. How can something that has so much going for it character-wise not be better? Review #1482
