“ I'm starting out my review with a neutral. We visited on a very busy New Years Eve day so I assumed the place was so packed because of the holiday, but in reading some of the other reviews I see this is pretty much the trend. We ended up sitting at the bar because there was no other seating available, and outside was a bit to chilly to enjoy. The brew was not to bad and the wine list was acceptable. The menu was decent for variety and everything that we ordered we enjoyed. I like the salad sections. The service left quite a bit to be desired though. We sat at the bar and didn't get greeted for about 15 min. Once we did and ordered our drinks it took the bartender about 10 min to pour them and another 10 min to deliver them and then we had to request menus a second time and that took another 20 min and another 10 to order. We weren't in any sort of hurry nor were we starving but that was a bit more of a time waster than we were looking for. I want to try again and I hope for better. ”

“ Save yourself the waste of time & DO NOT visit. I made my 1st trip to the restaurant after finding their webpage online. When I got there I sat up stairs where the atmosphere was cozy & the service was horrible! I waited for 10-15 minutes for service ordered a beer & was never served again. After sitting there with my empty glass for over 20 minutes I left. I went home & looked them up online again where I discovered there is a link for a give away that doesn't work so emailed the restaurant about the non existent service & deceptive link. I never heard back from anyone more than a month ago. After telling my friend about the situation he said lets try again but we will visit the lower bar. After sitting at the bar for over 20 minutes the bar keep had made only 2 drinks & kept telling us she'd be right with us. We left without ever getting service. As of writing this I just tried their give away a link again & it still doesn't work. There are so many better places to visit! ”

“ Taco Tuesday... The fish one is good, the pork one is pretty ok, and the beef one is dry and pretty tasteless. They were $2.50 a piece. The only reason this isn't a negative review is because of their outside patio area and their beers. Plus, I haven't really tried anything else there. So if you're going, I would suggest you give anything but the tacos a try. But if you must, get the fish one, which is a deep fried fillet in a tortilla and not much else.

“
Can't beat the location on a nice day on Ocean Beach. The management keeps finding ways to cram more people in to take advantage of those days, but the service definitely suffers as a result. Be prepared for a little chaos and potentially long waits (for both a table and occasionally the food). Otherwise, the food is quite good and the atmosphere is great. ”

“ I took my puppy for a long walk on Ocean Beach and though it would be great for both of us to get a beverage. I've been wanting to stop by for a while as they are dog friendly. So I had the small beer sampler---OK. It was room temperature and no one took the time to tell me what each one was. My boyfriend ended up meeting me there so we had a few items. The truffled chicken Mac & cheese was good...though I didn't seen any chicken, Dave said he got a piece. Not much of a truffle flavour either. The pizza was OK..thin crust which i like but not crisp and was hard to handle. The chop salad was flavourful---probably my favorite. The onion straws were tasty but almot no onion...just nice crispy salty super thin strings of batter. The french onion soup was gawd awful...well for french onion soup. If I had ordered Bouillabaise I would have though it OK. Yes it was totally fishy , a lot of clam flavour (it was supposed to be veal stock). That being said we sent it back they took it off the bil ”

“ i really enjoyed this place! i went here for a friend's birthday brunch. i actually didn't know that this part was even here! i'd been to the upstairs part, but hadn't seen this. the view is lovely, of course, because you get to look at golden gate park while you eat. but if you're here early in the morning like we were, be sure to bring a jacket. it's an open patio and early morning on the beach is just cold! someone had gotten the lawn menu, tho, so those of us who looked at that menu wanted to order from that one (barbeque!); unfortunately that's not available if you're not on the lawn. so i ended up with a burger, which was very good, and the view was fabulous, and we weren't rushed in any way. nice waiter, who was quite patient. ”

“ The online menu has changed dramatically since I had a girls' brunch here more than a year ago, so it seems like someone's tweaking Park Chalet until they get it right. As with Beach Chalet, Park Chalet is truly stunning, but not truly mouthwatering. The set-up is spacious, with enormous windows overlooking an outdoor picnic-style seating area, serenely sweet with dogs and children frolicking in the grass. "Mummy! What's that sparkling beverage you so enjoy?" Unfortunately, the food is overpriced with small portions and mostly unflavorful. But my review remains neutral for those rare occassions when a gorgeous and tranquil setting is more important than a well-seasoned bowl of orzo and chicken salad. Park Chalet would be a perfect setting for a wedding reception or after-wedding brunch. Just make sure to hire an outside caterer. And servers, too. ”

“ I went to with a friend on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered a lot of food because the small plate menu sounded delicious and we wanted to try as much as we could. I was really disappointed that we were rushed by the waitress to leave. The food was good, but I did not appreciate the service. I don't think I'll ever go back.

“ Visit date: Tue night, Dec, 06. Party of 4 (booked a week ahead). I want to do justice to Park Chalet since the last review was 3 months ago. We went for the special night (live band, $2.50 beer or taco, 2 margarita for $8). The small plates menu is great for party time. The truffled chicken with 4 cheese macaroni looked and tasted like french cuisine. The ahi tuna tartare was outstanding, like came out from Michael Mina's kitchen. Small cubes of marinated raw tuna were served on top of warm crispy corn chips. The country ham pizza was gourmetized by having caramelized onions! The beer bread was distinctly good. The apple strudel dessert was 1st class. The on-site micro brewery produces superb ale from light, to pale, to red, and stout also. The band Diego's Umbrella is a talented local group that plays fusion music (spanish guitar, mexican, rock). The place was filled to the brim, but without being crowded. The servers were efficient and apologetic for being busy. (4 stars out of 5) ”

"This place is pretty cool. I love the lawn chairs, just wish they had more off them. We did not want to wait an hour for a table, so we just order from the BBQ outside. Pulled pork sandwich was very good. Prices are fair and they have like 5 things to choose from. I think this is a great addition to the park. Great place to bring the dog and just relax in the sun." ”

“
I had a horrible experience at this restaurant. The service is virtually non exist ant. I complained to the manager and he seemed uninterested. They then proceeded to lose my friend's credit card. A stressful experience on a beautiful S. F. afternoon!!! ”

“ Where else can you choose between sipping a mojito while sunning yourself out in the garden, and/or dining inside a greenhouse type-environment? Yeah, the food's a little mediocre for the price they charge, but being in this little out of the way spot on the edge of Golden Gate Park is sort of nice sometimes.
Note: If it's nice out and you want to get a seat outside, be sure to get there early, or watch like a hawk for one to open up. Also, they have a fireplace indoors, which makes it a more warm environment on those cold & foggy Ocean Beach days ”

“ Ok food, great place to sit and enjoy a beer on a rare, sunny day on Ocean Beach. The service is not great and a group I was with was asked to leave on a Wednesday night at 8:30 pm because they decided there weren't enough people to stay open. Not cool! I live in the neighborhood and would love to support this place but I don't think they cater to loyal locals but to tourists.

“ Not a huge fan of the food, it's only OK (yes, definitely better than the Beach Chalet, but that is very faint praise). Prices are pretty steep too, for what you get. However, what atmosphere! Inside and outside it's fantastic, tucked away in a quite corner of Golden Gate Park. I especially like sitting by the wood fireplace when heavy rain is falling on the glass ceiling above, super cozy and totally unique in SF. The menu has changed recently, more focused on small plates (God forbid anyone missing out on even one chance to jump on some bandwagon). I never hold out much expectation for the food or service, and am rarely surprised. Beer is OK, but of course always fresh. Some styles are better than others (Oktoberfest is decent, if not an authentically malty Vienna-style lager). The whole point of this place is to take in the surroundings, smell the wood fire, and spend time with friends. I'm glad it's there and always look forward to a visit. ”

“ Food is a side-show to mostly good cocktails and beer. Service is hit and miss depending on who you get and what time of day it is. It's a good place for either an intimate date or gather with 8-10 friends as it has lounge chairs, soft lighting and homey fireplace. As long as you don't expect to be impressed with the food, you'll sip your cocktail happily.

“ THE PARK CHALET IS A HIDDEN GEM!!
I have been to the Beach Chalet on several occasions & always enjoyed my experience. I love their beer, hamburgers & the amazing view. On my last visit to the city I discovered the newer edition, the Park Chalet Garden Restaurant. This place is like no other I have been to in the city. The restaurant has floor to ceiling windows & the day I went the whole place was opened up. They also have this great lawn area where you can lounge on adirandack cheers & enjoy the sunshine, I felt like I was in my own backyard. The vibe in this place is great & food was even better. I enjoyed an amazing appetizer of Cheese fondue & I highly recommend the Pan Seared Halibut. All I can say is this place is hot!

“ Fun spot in a great setting, but can feel a little touristy. The breakfasts were okay, but I've had my food delivered lukewarm. Concentrate on a couple drinks with your company instead of focusing on the food. ”

“ A good place for casual dining. Good jazz on Sunday. Their beer is very good and varied, try the sampler of 6 beers in smaller glasses for an idea of their range. Service is good. Food is what you would expect from a casual dining place, pleasant and uneventful without being jawdroppingly excellent. Although the ribeye steak WAS very tasty indeed. ”

“ This place is MUCH better than the related Beach Chalet restaurant that is in the same building. The food, service, and decor is much better (unless you have to have an ocean view while you eat your bruger). The outdoor tables go quickly on a nice day....people settle in with kids and dogs and stay the afternoon. The brunch menu could offer more variety. Try the mushroom pizza! ”

“ Despite the other reviewers, my experience was good. The atmosphere was great and the bar was very busy. I had the fondue for appetizer and the cheese was so tasty! The ceasar salad was great and the pizza was one of the best I've eaten, even on the second day. I'll have to try their breakfast sometime. ”

“ The bar set up is grand and hip. The indoor/outdoor patio ambiance is great for a Sunday afternoon. However, I found the dungeness crab benedict, which was raved by a friend, disappointing. The hollandaise sauce wasn't mixed right-too much butter, not enough salt. My fries were too greasy and a bit cold by the time I got it, as if they were the last batch before a new batch is to be made. In addition, the coffee was weak. I wouldn't want to go there again for food, but will consider the bar. ”

“ They need heaters to make it more comfortable to sit outside--it was a bit chilly when I went. The service was friendly and efficient, but the food wasn't great. I ordered corned beef hash, a brunch special, and coffee. I love cb hash but their dish was just OK. Also, the coffee wasn't very good, i.e. weak, and, because of the shallow, wide-lipped cups, it cooled down very quickly; no one likes to drink cold, formerly hot, coffee. Only positive was the mashed potatoes. I will try it once more. ”
