“ Yes, its touristy... However, its also very tasty. My personal favorite dish is rock shrimp with smoked salmon pasta. Wow, its very good. The cream sauce isnt too thick, there is just the right amount of salt, and the fresh herbs bring out so many flavors in the meal. The Chocolate cake for dessert is really good also. I would recommend going to this place with your friends from out of town. Great views and compared to other places, its not that expensive. ”

“ this place was packed with people, and you can tell some are locals and regulars and others are tourists. We can during SF dine about town, so we had 3 courses for $32. The lobster bisque was very good, especially with some bread. THe seafood entrees were very good and came in good portions. THe chocolate dessert was very good. It is very busy in there, so service is not the greatest, but overall, a pretty good seafood restaurant. i would go again. ”

“
I love Scoma's! You have to try the neverending bowl of cioppino, also known as the Lazyman Cippino. As a starter, the clams in the bowl of butter, garlic, and wine are also excellent! For the quality and amount of food you get, this is a great place to eat. The staff is very friendly and attentive and you cannot beat the beautifll view, especially on a clear day! ”

“ I actully really liked this place. The waterfront atmosphere is great and because it is set back from the rest of Pier 39, it isn't as touristy. The staff is really friendly, and you can sit at the bar while you wait for a table. I had a seafood pasta dish, and the portion of fish was more than generous. The flavors were good, but not gourmet. So if you are looking for some classic SF seafood dishes with a nice atmosphere this is the place. ”

“ Have to admit I was a little leary of eating at a restaurant that also caters to tourists, but it more than exceeded my expectations. We came here after a seminar, and ordered the Prix Fixe lunch menu which included soup or salad, entree and dessert. Salmon was cooked perfectly and the crab louie had a generous portion of crab legs. The dessert was a chocolate mousse that was light in texture and had an Oreo cookie crust. All this for a little over $20. The only caveat is that the waiter will ask if you want Avocado on the salad, but they don't mention that it will cost an additional $4. It was well worth it, but I believe you should be told the additional cost. Clam chowder is chock full of clams and has a nice creamy texture. I would come back to try other dishes, now that I know that it is not a tourist trap, as it has a great view and the service is impeccable and the wait staff well trained.

“
For me, the BEST all around seafood restaurant that I've tried so far. All the staff have been very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly and I think I've had the majority of them serve me. I can't stop ordering the crab legs which are dungeness - just the legs WITHOUT the shells!!!! I sure hate to be the one to shell all those legs and I can't help but wonder how many crabs went into this dish. I had it sauteed in addition to special ordering it dore style and also deep fried like prawns. The crab has always been fresh and never overcooked. $38 a pop but with no hesitation, well worth the money as long as the food is consistent, fresh, and properly prepared. Hey, side note: if you like Spumoni ice cream - their's is the best. ”

“ I was there in March which is in the crab season. These guys have their own boat and process their catch next to the restaurant. Although tucked away it really isn't hard to find. Great bloody mary ahead of the meal- we were there for lunch to take advantage of their $22 lunch deal. I had the petite crab which was great. I don't remember the name of the waiter but i'd remember his face..no nonsense knowledgeable fellow..clearly he' d been there a long time like most of the staff seemed to be. Comments about the decor being dates..well folks when you are in the top ten restaurants in the nation revenue wise which Scoma's is you don't tend to worry about dated decor..you just keep it clean and serve what got you where you are. Is it expensive well yes it isn't a low rent district and seafood doesn't keep or come cheap like Kraft mac n cheese;-). These are professionals that know their business. ”

“ Well I will definitely go back to Scoma's. At first I was taken aback by the prices, then I realized the portions are large enough for 2-3 people. Our waitress was very friendly and honest about which dishes were the best. She also stopped us from ordering at one point because she knew we'd have too much food, which shows she wasn't just out for the tip. All dishes were chock-full of seafood - the cioppino was fantastic! I think that 2 very hungry people could easily get by on one appetizer, one entree, and maybe some dessert. ”

“ One of those old school restaurants that caters to both locals and the tourists. The scallops are fantastic and I also loved the filet mignon. Next time I'll try the salmon. The Lobster Bisque is very good also! ”

“ Dark, on the water, small and very "Old East Coast." Scomas has seen better days (some spots seemed sticky) but the food was pretty good. Definite SF prices, and for them, I've had better. The waitress was overly friendly; I expected her to start feeding my father (I think she found him attractive). Like most of the reviewers, we found the food to be good, but not amazing. Certainly a good place to bring people from the midwest who are looking for an upscale Red Lobster. I won't go into detail that a "bug" was crawling on my father's blazer. Let's just assume that was a one-time deal, or it came from the hotel. ”

“ Some friends from out of town insisted that I go with them to dine here. Well, I was actually pleasantly surprised. It was salmon season so that was obviously great. The few seafood pasta dishes we go were all loaded with the goods and were very tasty. Probably won't go back, though, but will recommend it to any who asks. ”
