“ I LOVE this place - the rabbit is fantastic, the moussaka is TO DIE and their wine list is lovely (if you're in the mood for a crisp white I suggest the spanish Albarino). Peter and Kent are warm and inviting to guests and I always feel like I get VIP treatment. Great to bring out of towners here to have fabulous fresh, mostly organic/sustainable food in an intimate atmosphere. A real gem! ”

“ I think they heard about the parking nightmare because when we booked the table, they told us about parking at the jug shop. The restaurant is compact, but the noise level wasn't that bad. The lamb milanese was out of this world as was my chicken. The service and wine were fantastic, too. The restaurant is really compact. I went because they were on the dine about town list, but I'll be going back. ”

“
My friend and I began w/ the spanish Wine Flight moving onto the Bordeauxs. The first glass of the flight was the only one w/ any depth behind it. Nose: burnt filet. We then had olives, which were great b/c they were obvisouly picked from somewhere close. Next the gnocchi. The texture was soft and melty just the way I like, but the sauce was questionable as it did not compliment the gnocchi very well. We also had the pollock (best I've had of pollock, which is not saying much) and rabbit. The rabbit came in a great portion size but vegetables coudl have been more inspiring. Overall good experience. I'm harsh what can I say.

“ What a wonderful find! I've been to 1550 Hyde thrice and enjoyed myself every single time. The food is creative and delicious and the dining room staff is very gracious. The only questionable service was the waitress on our most recent visit - who clearly didn't want to be there that evening. Regardless, my friends and I were determined to have a great experience. I had the soup special that evening - delicious. Not too salty, not too rich. My friends had salads which they all thoroughly enjoyed. When the mains arrived, two of my friends had the lamb moussaka which they raved about. I had the roast chicken, which was tender and tasty - not the least bland. desserts and Cheese are also very interesting and delicious at 1550 Hyde. Their winelist is also creative and inventive, which unusual finds and a good price range for many different types of experiences. I am already looking forward to my next visit to 1550 Hyde. The host is remarkably hospitable! ”

“ We had a good dinner here on a Wednesday night. Every table was taken at 7:30 PM. Reservations are a must for dinner.
The anguish of street parking on russian hill is a given. We parked 6 streets away after cruising for 20 minutes.
I had the pork chop on pan seared kale, Barbara had the brick de-boned chicken hindquarter on basmati rice. Both prepared with care, tastefully seasoned.
Server was mature, knowledgeable, helpful with wine pairing suggestions. He gave an extra glass of Pinot with dinner and upgraded my dessert wine!
Bill was $85 for the 2 hour meal.
A solid recommendation for this intimate, bistro style neighborhood restaurant.

“ Incomparable San Francisco neighborhood restaurant elevating rustic cooking to the heights, delicious cooking in a warm ambience with loving service. Ever-changing imaginative seasonable menu drawing from organic californian ingredients in a charming boutique restaurant: A velvety delicious, multi-layered butternut squash soup with parsnips and truffle oil followed by a superb calamari salad delectably blended with fennel, chopped olives, grapefruit sections and pea sprouts, every biteful exploding with wow factor. Obvious care and creativity are exemplified in every course, including irresistibly flavorful entrees such as the delicious signature chicken under a brick richly presented over a bed of spinach and polenta, oozing with reduction juices, or a spectacular breaded pork cutlet milanese, bone-in, covering the plate. Appealing desserts: Delectable Affogato to fabulous carmelized pear tart with Riesling ice cream, stunning panna cotta. Extensive oenophile offerings. Simply Superb. ”

“ A wine bar with over a hundred bottles of wine, and they only have 1 selection of wine flights a night??? Come on! The appetizers (a salad and chicken-like broth with 3, yes 3, pieces of gnocchi) were okay. The desserts were good but not special. However, our main course, the game bird, was so good, I wish I ordered two instead of getting the other courses. ”

“ You can’t have both, a decent restaurant with a parking lot.. This tiny old storefront seats about 30 and would be packed nightly if there was parking around. Wait there isn’t any parking and the place is still packed. Our wait was about 5 minutes as they cleared a table, and we were promptly presented an impressive menu that is printed daily! The squash soup was exquisite, great, smooth and filling! My fried rabbit was perfect except for it being served on cold spinach. My friends pumpkin ravioli were also good except that the topping of pecorino cheese seemed a little overpowering the gentle flavor of the silky pasta. The friendly service was adequate although slow on the clearing of the plates. Impressive was their wine list, both local and international vintages, More impressive was the moderate pricing of the wine, AND the dinner entrees. This is the quintessential neighborhood bistro, where locals eat dinner every week. Will return, ONLY with taxi service! ”

“ When you enter the small, lovely place, wafts of cheese fill the room. The scents will you to order a glass of wine to accompany what is to come. The food is excellent and full of flavor and very exotic. Not a place for loud parties or big ones either, take a date and have some romance. ”
