“
Can we all say...Whip me me with a Chain Restaurant" :) (lol) OK on a serious non whimsical note, this was a good value meal with close approximation to the movie theatre...so what a deal!! :) That is all I have to say...hey if you want more..well read my other reviews. Honestly, this was good food with a nice friend and then a nice movie afterwords...so there you go.:) ”

“ Okay, Chevy's IS what it IS. It's not authentic. It's not meant to be. It's cheesy and contrived. That's the point. It's a great place to get a too sweet margarita, get full on chips and salsa, then eat something drowned in cheese. That's the point. ”

“ Again, I must repeat...LOVE the freaky hat and singing. A must for birthdays, especially if you are eight. I love them because I act like I'm eight...even though I'm really thirty-mumble, mumble...
You probably shouldn't come here with the expectation that you're going to get fabulous authentic mexican food...it's CHEVY'S.

“ Eh. Typcial choices for the masses, but what do you expect for a chain restaurant? My co-diner got a very bad stomache afterwards. Will never go back to a chain if I can help it- especially with all the real authentic mexican restaurants in the city.

“ Hmm, other than the yummy chips and salsa, this place is lacking. The frozen margaritas are like slushies (no alcohol!) and I never understand how you can pay $15+ for a mediocre meal when you can get delicious mexican food in San Francisco for far less. But, Chevy's is a chain, and as far as those goes, it's not the worst.

“ Okay to have a few drinks and hang out with buds after work but that is all. Don't go there for the food if you can go right to the mission and have some great mexican food which is truly authentic.

“ I've eaten business deal lunches here with visiting Corp suits and had after hours co-worker get togethers. The food is terrible. The drinks have little alcohol. I think the frozen margarita can legally be served to minors. This location is particularly low on quality. The Mission @ 2nd St location is a little better, but still... Why are there 3 Chevys in our authentic food obsessed town? They obviously turn a profit. My theory is that Chevy's survives on tourists from small towns who are overwhelmed by the "big city" experience and they need to recoup their equilibrium by visiting a familiar restaurant "just like back home". If you speak more than 100 words of Spanglish or have ever eaten a real taco, you do not go to Chevy's of your own free will. Please dine @ any family owned mexican place instead. You will get a meal that's a lot better than Chevy's. ”

“ Absolutely pathetic. Garbage food, tacky decor, WEAK (and poorly mixed) drinks, amateur service. It's just about as bad as can be. The only thing they do right is chips and salsa, but it takes a lot more than that to run a restaurant. A feeling of dread overcomes me at the mere mention of this place. And, by the way, I couldn't care less about supposed "authenticity" one way or the other. When I go to a restaurant, I'm not thinking, "boy I hope they have authentic food," I'm thinking, "boy I hope they have GOOD food." And Chevy's, you don't have either. Pitiful, disgraceful, and an embarrassing blemish on our dining scene. ”

“ The only thing edible here is the chips and salsa, which are pretty tasty. Everything else I've ever ordered here is so bad it's laughable. Some people I know insist on coming here with large groups all the time and I guess I see the sense in that it's big and used to large groups, but I groan every time I hear "Let's meet at Chevy's after" It's just that bad and I'm not one to give bad reviews lightly like a lot of food snobs who seem to hate food. Go there in a large group if you must, just don't expect anything and you'll be fine. load up on chips and salsa ”

“ if you can't get to a taqueria in the mission or you have a large business party then this is fine. but it's fairly bland, i guess i might call it inoffensive. if you have a large group it's a good compromise. but people are right- good chips and decent salsa. ”

“ I like Chevy's. I love the salsa, I love that sweet corn side dish. The food is good, the tortillas are fresh, what's not to like? So it's not real mexican food. Get over it. It's Fajitas, it's tex-mex! And for those of you who spent enough time in Texas to be "insulted" by the phrase tex-mex, you've got Diana Kennedy to thank. She used the phrase at least a decade before Chevy's existed ("for the record", and it was coined even earlier) and she made it trendy to be offended by fajitas. But then she was born in England and she isn't "authentic" mexican either. Can't we finally admit that tex-mex is a valid regional cuisine of the USA, influenced by geography, economics, immigration and a host of other things, just like other "authentic" cuisines. Maybe you could stop being insulted and be proud. After all, your from the state that gave us fajitas and fajitas are damn tasty. And when you're in the mood for fajitas, who in The City does them better than Chevy's? ”

“ Come on ya'll, it's Chevy's- what can you really expect? When you're in the mood for it, nothing else will do. Sure, it's not the kind of mexican food you can get in the Mission (and is quite a lot more expensive in comparison), but it's really not trying to be truly authentic... ”

“ I would normally defend this chain and say it's not so bad for a chain. It's done me right in suburbia when there was no where else to go. This particular location however is horrible. Even the normally adequate food is terrible here. Greasy, not fresh tasting. Yucky, blech. ”

“ The Chevy's experience truly depends on the location of the restaurant and the purpose for going. Many of the locations along waterfront are great for work-group parties, and the ones in suburban hell are fine to take the kids to during Christmas shopping sprees. I concur the chips & salsa are a great reason to go, as is super-fast service in most of the locations. I've had *much worse* mexican food in Mission taquerias...including ones that charge for Costco chips! In a city where all the great taquerias seem to be closing, or have impossible parking, the snobbery seems off-base. Besides, the corn side is delicioso! ”

“ I still love their fresh (thin) chips and smoky salsa...it makes it worth going to just for that. But their menu items have gotten worse and worse over the past ten years; more trendy 'wraps' and less authentic tex-mex food, and everything tastes a bit...ordinary. Service and decor are nice, as they are just about everywhere, but you kinda wish the entrees were prepared with a bit more TLC. ”

“ I think each dish costs about 25% more that it's worth. It's certainly not BAD food, but don't expect authentic when you go there. High points: good for groups, and good salsa. Go there only if you are with a bunch of people and have no way of getting to the Mission. ”

“ Sure you're not going to take your visiting relatives for a fancy night out, but for decent food and Margaritas after a movie, or just a casual dinner, it's not bad. The food is consistent, I've never had aproblem with any of the dishes and they are kid friendly of course, which comes in handy. Certainly as good as many neighborhood spots I have tried. ”

“ I know everyone dogs it, but yet almost everyone I know has been to Chevy's, and will go again in the future. It's not great mexican food, but it's consistent, the chips/salsa are good, the tortillas hot, and it's big and festive enough to handle a large group or bday party. You know, not every great hole in the wall place can accomodate that group of 10. Plus getting to and parking in the Mission isn't always a pleasant experience. Accept Chevy's for what it is.

“ For what it is, completely unauthentic tex-mex chain food - it is alright. I do love their homemade tortillas and chips and salsa. I could really make a meal out of that and their guacamole if I didn't feel like such a cheapie. But Chevy's can be fun, in a city like SF there is no reason to go to a place like Chevys with so many other authentic mexican restaurants. However, if you have to go - order an expensive margarita and eat all their chips! You can have fun there, I promise. ”

“ beh, it is what it is: a place where people go for a birthday party when no one knows where to go and wants to accommodate everybody. No one will really enjoy the restaruant all that much. The best things about this place are the sweet corn mash (which I always want more of) and la machina, the thing that spits out warm tortillas. For a place that's supposed to be festive, it's quite bland. ”

“ Why why why would anyone go here for mexican food when you have so many other authentic options at your finger tips. I mean this is the kind of place that you go to when you're stuck in the middle of Iowa and you have a craving for Mexcian food. That being said the place is clean, staff friendly, and the food is fairly well priced for what it is. Just remember that you'll be kicking yourself later when you walk by that Taco stand and realize that the viddles they're offering are leaps and bounds above what you just stuffed your gullet with. ”

“ Chevy's is one of those chains that you don't go to by choice. I don't understand how anyone living in SF can go to any chain restaurant when there are so many good restaurants, authentic restaurants. The only plus thing I can say about Chevy's is that their chips and salsa are good. This is americanized texmex.
You're much better off going to the Mission...so what are you still doing here?... GO! ”

“ I guess a lot of people feel gyped going here because it's not "authentic" mexican food, but every time I go to Chevy's, their food is always tasty IMO. It's prepared well, but I agree that it shouldn't be called "Tex Mex." I cannot resist their salsa and chips that they serve with each table, and can get full off it because I can't stop eating the salsa! It's definitely a good place to go to for birthdays or large group celebrations, as they are always accomodating to large parties. and who can resist the cheesy chevy's hat that you get when it's your birthday? but of course, chain restaurants are never my favorite to go to, and i wouldn't choose to go to chevy's out of my own will. if i went good mexican food, i'd go to the mission district. ”

“ I beg to differ, although the food is no difference from other Chevy's, the location itself is enough to persuade me to come back. It's on the 3rd floor of Embarcadero building. Go on a nice summer day (weekend preferably) for lunch and get the seat outside. You will feel like you are away from civilization. It's just so relaxing. ”

“ There are SO many better places for 'mexican' food in this city that there is really no excuse to go to Chevy's. The food quality is average at best. The menu and portions are targeted to the 'more is better' market. And frankly anybody drinking one of those oversized margaritas just looks, well, silly. The suburbs have invaded - run for cover! ”

“ For the record - TEX MEX is a " slogan " that chevy's came up with.
In texas people eat food like everyone else , they dont make mexicans make special plates for them. I lived in texas and we think tex mex is an insult ,
TEX MEX is considered to be an insult to all mexicans & texans.
what they should call it is AMERICANIZED INFLUENCED mexican FOOD.
THE FOOD IS OKAY BUY WAY OVER PRICED FOR THE SERVINGS & THE SERVICE IS SLOW-
