“
The green curry here is excellent. It is not just hot, but flavorful. It is particularly good with the Sea Bass, but was also tasty with beef. The garlic shrimp are a good combination of shrimp taste and seasonings. The first time, we had garlic green beans which was good, however the texture was a bit soft. The second time, I ordered the asparagus which is plain and accompanies all the other dishes fine. It came with a nice crisp texture which was a welcome addition to all the other dishes we ordered. The leaf wrapped crunchy combos as appetizers are quick fun bites as appetizers if you are good and hungry when you arrive. They will stave off further hunger as you try your drinks and wait for food. The plain and simple gin and tonic goes well with this food as does the more complex drinks that they have invented. One diner at our table had a concoction with banana in it and she loved it. Another diner opted for a special tea that was served in an individual pot and a tea ”

“ Pretty restaurant, attentive staff and wonderful presentation in addition to very delicious thai. We had the imperial rolls, the yellow chicken curry, and green papaya salad.

“ This is a cool, open space, but it's extremely loud. There were only five of us at a table, but I could not hear what the person one seat over from me was saying. The service was extremely fast and very friendly. They have some combo lunch specials which makes it easy to order. I really enjoyed my red curry beef and spring rolls. My friend also had the red curry, but she was in the know and ordered the sticky rice which she said was great. The other entrees (seafood soup, sweet and sour prawns and a tofu curry) were all enjoyed. For desert, my friend who ordered the sticky rice for her entree also ordered the mango sticky rice, which was sweet and had sliced mangoes around it. For 5 the total bill was $65 (one drink and one desert ordered). ”

“ Great lunch spot. The curry was perfect and the hot tea. Clean atmosphere and fast service. A bit pricey but full of flavor. ”

“ The food is good. Not as great as being in thailand, but still tasty. I over indulged. Pineapple duck curry --- moist, flavorful, presented in a hollowed out half of an actual pineapple - such a whimsical presentation. Scallops in yellow curry with potatoes and bok choy --- this was really tasty too, that is if you don't mind the scallops being battered, then fried, and placed in the sauce --- not really what I was expecting --- I didn't eat the fried batter but popped out my scallop instead. Oh, but the best part, and you have to order this if you're dining with friends --- get the chef's appetizer platter --- you get all the best first courses: summer rolls, fried spring rolls, chicken satay, spicy pork cakes, toasted coconut spinach wraps, and THEE best mango salad I have ever had! I am also a huge peanut sauce fan and it did not disappoint. cocktails seemed off though. Lemongrass Gimlet ---really, really tart and the Bangkok Punch was too too sweet. Service was nice and friendly. ”

“
I know one of the chefs at this restaurant and definitely the word is this is thai food for American taste. Not the delicious Tom Yum soup laced with coconut milk and chilis nor the Larb authentically made with toasted rice. I've eaten here, not impressed - it's just thai Food catering to those who 'think' they know what real thai cuisine is like. It's o.k. but I wouldn't return. ”

“ I definitely appreciate the mixed atmosphere of Koh Samui and the Monkey: clean and simple but accented with heavy chairs and solid wood tables, gold trimmed artwork, and rice paper window covers. I agree that the dishes are more expensive than take-out thai at $8.50-$10 on average for a lunch plate, but I wasn't appalled either. The sauce on the sweet and sour prawns ($8.50) over rice, with pineapple, peppers, onions tasted a bit too homemade to me, in the sense that I'm pretty sure the recipe is a homecook's: ketchup, sugar, vinegar. Too ketchupy? Too sweet? Once I realized it was house-made, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what about the balance was off. The waitstaff appeared minimally (take order, deliver food, refill water once, bring check, take money), and I was in need of a little extra water while analyzing that ketchup sauce. When reading the menu, I wanted to see more dishes with more vegetables, though the standard options go on for two-plus pages. ”

“ I went there last night just before I saw Lily Allen at Popscene. The restaurant is definitely a little more up scale than the regular thai restaurant. I had the Fried Calamari (came recommended) and the Pad thai. The Calamari was a surprise as it came in huge chunks, lightly breaded and fried to a nice golden brown. The sweet chili was good but needed a little kick in the sour and heat department. The Pad thai was good, with the noodles perfectly cooked. Again, it seem to need a little more heat. The wine offering is pretty good but the pours were a little small or it seems to be because of the tiny wine glasses. I have had better thai for lesser price. ”

“ Pretty good thai food. The one thing I can say about this place is the service is super fast! We just got done ordering our drinks and appetizers and before we could decide our main courses, here they come with our drinks and appetizers!!!! The Heavenly Beef tasted like high end beef jerky. But don't get me wrong, it was still tasty! I was more partial to the Fried Sweet Corn Patties. Perfectly crisp with a slight sweetness. We also had Larb Gai, Crispy Soft Shell Crab and Yellow Curry Chicken. All in all the 2 dishes that stood out to me was the corn patties and the soft shell crab. They only offer 2 desserts which is the mango with sticky rice and fried banana with ice cream. My party and I shared both dishes and were not disappointed. I enjoyed myself but I don't think I would go out of my way to go there but if I am in the area and craving for those delicious Fried Sweet Corn Patties I will definetely visit Koh Samui! ”

“ The food was excellent. I had a chicken and pumpkin curry, and the pumpkin just melted in my mouth. However, the prices were a bit too high for my tastes. $2.50 for a small dish of brown rice? Also add the price of the prawn salad, the cucumber salad, and a drink for each of us, and it was a pretty expensive meal for two. Service was prompt though, even on a Friday night, and my water glass was never empty. Go for the food, but don't expect a bargain meal.

“ Great service and lovely atmosphere. The food…. every main course I tried (shrimp & cashew nuts w/ garlic source, red, yellow, and green curry, and Pad thai) had too much sugar. Tom Yam Kung & salad rolls were good. I like the fact that they offer sticky rice and brown rice besides white rice. I would probably go back when I’m craving for something sweet, I guess. Overall, I would give 3.5 out of 5. ”

“ Good food, packed at lunch but haven't had to wait yet. We went with a group of ten and they easily accomodated us. In order of preference, we had Salmon with a red curry, Scallops with a yellow curry, and a panang beef. We had several other good dishes but those stood out. The service is fine - a very popular lunch spot in SOMA. ”

“ I've eaten here a few times and the food is good. However, it is expensive and as of late, they've been doing some fancy portion bulking like laying rice noodles which are cheap on top of a bed of sprout and lettuce in their basil dish - ewww and my friend had a papaya salad with prawns and they actually cut the prawns (ttl 2) in half??? Also, their brown rice, although a great option, is $2.50. Hmmmm. ”

“ This place is suitable for taking someone on a date. The waitstaff wear sharp traditional(?) thai clothing, the decor is very interesting visually, and the food is fresh and tasty with good portions.
The place is slightly higher end and is more expensive than the other thai places....just like the island. =) ”

“ Interesting menu options. Love the tofu satay and corn cake appetizer. They seem to get the balance of flavor and spice just right. I've been here about 5 times and the only disappointing dish I have had is the green bean and tofu entree -- it was tasty -- just too many beans and not enough tofu. A nice place to go for a somewhat fancy thai meal. Your water glass will never be empty - very attentive staff. ”

“ I believe this place is more about athmosphere than the food.
It's very nice inside, designers blended modern with traditional thai.
The presentation of the food was equally beautiful. The food itself was a disappointment. Prices were very costly for such unremarkable fare. I'll go back though and give it another chance. ”

“ The food is slightly more upscale than your neighborhood thai shack. In some cases, it's great (may of the appetizers and the Som Tum payaya salad). In others dishes, not so much (Tom Yum Goong, Pad thai). Overall the food is good; fresh and flavorful (albeit not always that spicey). The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff means well, although not always that attentive. Go here if you want a nice dinner out, rather than the typical thai food take out. ”

“ Great thai restaurant in the Soma/South Beach Area. Excellent service, and the food is on par with the food. The coconut soup was great, as well as the red curry and Pad thai. The staff and interior is above average as well as the service. A very pleasant find worth checking out. ”

“ I went recently and had a wonderful time. As a group of four we selected many dishes and shared everything..it was all very good, including delicious deserts and a generous selection of sake. The service was efficient and friendly. It's nicely decorated, very comfortable, and I like the interesting soma location. I would absolutely go again. ”

“ I liked the atmosphere at this thai restaurant. Very busy and efficient staff. The service was right on time and the food was fresh. I probably didn't order the best dishes, so I'll go back and try again, but the food was great, especially the sticky rice with mango! ”
