The service was capable and well intentioned, unfortunately management didn't feel it was necessary to staff more than one waitperson. There were at least 70 people in the place - Bad call. Fortunately, we were only just grazed by that bullet, and enjoyed a perfect late summer evening on the patio. We were later joined by a neighborhood cat of the feline persuasion - not some furry jazz man up from G&G. The antipasto and the capellini pomodoro rocked. The cioppino was also very good and packed with generous portions of fresh seafood. I decided to share the salmon with kitty, who could not have been more pleased. The pasta side with the cioppino was as excellent as the capellini main, which only added to an already great impression. The tiramisu was very good, and the drinks and wine lists are both awesome and very reasonably priced. I'm not sure there's a nicer place in North Beach for some reasonably priced fair weather dinner woo. Review #20160

I think most of the other reviewers have nailed this place - large, inexpensive, okay food, good for a group and a more than a bit of tacky decor with a nice patio. On a quiet week night, service was slow even though this cavern of a place was fairly empty, making me wonder how it is on a weekend when it's sounds like it's more crowded. I did enjoy my pasta with spinach, pimento, olive oil & garlic and my companion's pizza wasn't bad either. I did love my seat on the comfy, overstuffed couch. I'll be back for a week night dinner again Review #19620

Bocce is just like cha cha cha in the haight or buco de beppo. You bring your group there and everyone is full and intoxicated - yet the bill comes and it's $25 per person. You can't beat that. It is also a great choice for out of towners who aren't really foodies after a long day of touring. It was perfect for my 10 and 8 year old nieces - who really just want spagetti with butter and for my brother-in-law who drinks Coors Light. Review #17035

So I've been to bocce cafe and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere 2 out of 3 times. It's fun to come on a Friday or Saturday night, though ever so bustling with the 20/30 something crowd it makes it that much more fun to sit at the bar and people watch as you wait for your table. I was dissapointed when I went on a Tuesday night and had lousy service. And the food was just medeocre. But I've been since, and I'm happy to report I did enjoy my visit, the food was good (not great) and service was 4 out of 5 stars. Review #15553

Read all the reviews before we attempted this Restaurant in North Beach. The food was good(nothing fantastic) and the service was excellent. The service could not be bad as we were the second only table in there and it was about 11:30 on a Saturday morning for lunch. I would of preferred it to be more crowded because all the other North beach restaurants were packed two blocks away and that kinda scared me. Would prefer to get Garlic bread (free) with my meal as I'm used to back in Sacramento and the salads were separate also. I thought for the bill was a little high for 4 drinks and 4 lunch entrees for this type of place. You got alot of food and everyone was pleased at my table but of course I paid the bill. Money wise I guess it was just OK for me. I would try another Restaurant a few blocks away next time that seemed to be more crowded and moving. Try anything once I guess!! Will try a couple right down in Little Italy where it is really busy and see what the food is all about. Review #15162

Eaten here twice over the past 10 years. Some of the previous reviewers accurately describe my experiences here. Okay food, nothing special. This is just another tourist trap place in North Beach. For flavor, you could eating Caffe Sport or any other of a dozen places in the neighborhood. Passable quality starchy pasta. The patio is nice. Attracts loud, happy, lively crowds at night. Another worthy north beach destination when you are carousing with your troop. We really appreciate that you take the time to drive from far flung Walnut Creek, San Ramon, & Santa Rosa in your Lexus SUV to spend your hard earned dollars here. Party down! Review #14348

The menu was not as tradional as the place looks. I love the atmosphere and the waiter I had was on point with everything. The food was great, but very heavy. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I recommend this place to any one with a large appetite..... Review #13469

This place is surprisingly big- the narrow alley entrace is decieving- we weren't aware of the patio in the back until we explored the area while waiting for a table at the bar. The Ensalata gambe (shrimp with feta and lime vinegarette) is quite good. So is the bruchetta and caprese salad. The carpacio wasn't very flavorful and I wouldn't recommend it. Great place for big groups and inexpensive dining. Review #10318

The backyard garden is lovely, esp. in the early evening. I've been twice, once for wine and bruschetta, once with a large group. Both times before the dinner crowd. The first time was relaxed and perfect. The second, with a group of six, the service was spotty. cocktails came moments before the entree, with one cocktail wrong. The waiter never returned to take a second drink order, and didn't bring the glass of red wine that had been ordered when the entrees arrived. We would have been happy to order another round of drinks, coffee and desert, but the waiters were no where to be found. In terms of the food: large portions. The raviolis were a hit, and not frozen. The linguini and clam sauce had real clams with shells and was perfect in its garlicky seasoning. The pastas do better than the chicken and veal dishes, but those are still fairly good. I will go again, this time with just my family, and give it another shot. The prices are fair for North Beach and the setting is good Review #6716

Cheap food and cheap wine. Nothing special really stands out, other than the fact its a big roomy place that's in North Beach. I guess its good for groups, so in essence its the group that makes the dinner great, and the food just doesn't get in the way. Review #6647

I've loved this place since it was the Spaghetti Factory. It has an outdoor patio which is great if you have a dog, smoke, or have small loud children and the food is simple. My experience has conditioned me to avoid the fish, but pastas and pizzas are good and well priced. The best thing about this place, besides the live music, is the faux grapevine railings - or maybe they're real - anyway tre', tre', cool. It also has a full-bar and AMPLE space which makes it the choice for large groups if you want to be served in a timely manner. Valet parking also makes this place an easy meeting spot. Review #6411

Bocce is good for a couple of reasons. The outdoor patio is delightful on a nice day or evening.. a real escape from the mania of North Beach. The inside is also something to see, having been the Pasta Factory years back it is quite a set-up. Interesting decor and cosy cushioned booths..plenty of room for large parties. The food is ok, I have had hits and misses, the service is generally fine. Review #5321

This is a great place for large parties. It's very loud inside the restaurant because 1.) there's a lot of people, and 2.) they play loud jazz music. The live jazz music was a really awesome touch though. Nice to have something to listen to while you're eating/talking. Getting seated is the worst. The owner is never at the host spot, so when you first go in, you don't even know who to talk to. He's always saying "I'll seat you in 5 minutes." And we asked him about 5 times. By the time we were seated, it was nearly 9:00PM, and we had our reservations for 8:15PM. The food is pretty decent...really depends on what you get. My friend and I shared the combination for 2, and some of the things were good (gnocchi, eggplant parmigiana, lasagne), but others were pretty generic and tasted like what I could make at home. dessert was good though, a tiramisu cake that's heavy on the rum. It was pretty cheap for the dinner, and not a bad price for all the food you get. Review #4311

This really fun space is made better by lots of wine. The food alone is not reason enough to go, especially in North Beach. It gets super loud. So, it is great to go for a loud, satisfying, wine-soaked meal in a cool setting. Review #3984

Great for large groups - or anyone that wants a lot of good food for a reasonable price. Nothing too exciting or inventive on the menu, but the food is good and the space is interesting and comfortable. This seems to be a local place rather than a huge tourist trap. Head out to the back deck during nice weather. It feels like a lovely private garden. Review #3036

The entrance to the restaurant is through an alley. I was surprised to find such a nice and spacious restaurant from such a small entrance. The food was excellent and it has a good wine selection. The service is excellent. The main dining room is too bright for me but you can request for a table in the garden (enclosed.) if you like a more relax atmosphere. Review #1762
