“
Tasty Tasty dim sum. I would highly recommend the Bao buns there. There dough is so nice and soft that you are catapulted into a world of YUM!!!
Just watch out for the beef tripe if you like that sorta thing. It's not pre-seasoned, so you have to dip it into sauce like a noodle. Was still ok but just a little O_o for someone who isn't used to the cuisine. ”

“ I'm here at least once a month either for dim sum or dinner. For dim sum, long line on the weekend and they don't push the carts around so you pretty much should know what you want already. I stick with the usual like wonton noodle soup, prawn fried rice or preserved egg poridge, mustard greens and am pretty happy. Even when I make noodle soup at home, I take out roasted duck & BBQ pork here because it's not too fatty or salty.

“ I'll never take for granted how great it was to have eaten at some of the best restaurants in Beijing and Tianjin. It has set the bar for how I determine just what is great chinese dining every moment since. Great Eastern took me back to Beijing in an instant. Clean room, enthusiastic staff, impeccably fresh and expertly prepared dishes - This might be the best chinese I have had in the city. I didn't try any soup, so Hunan Chef in Bernal retains the best hot & sour title, but everything else at Great Eastern pwns the city...If it was down to a coin toss between here and Yau Hing, I'd pick Great Eastern. ”

“ Lunch was excellent and I had salty fish fried rice, string beans and chicken and tofu and vegetables. Very large portions and very well made. Very legit. dim sum was below for what I paid but it was average to good. Not great. Probably eat there for lunch but not dim sum next time. Clean and big. Has downstairs. I used to walk by this place many times so we finally came in when we had visitors.

“ This is a really nice restaurant smack in the middle of Chinatown. I got there just too late for the dim sum, so I ate off the Dinner menu and it was great. I'm pretty American in my tastes, i.e. no frog or duck tongues, and this menu has plenty of stuff like that, but there is also plenty for the less adventurous. I had the crispy fried chicken and the snow pea sprouts with crab. The chicken was good and the presentation was beautiful. The snow pea sprouts with crab was amazing. It looked just kind of gooey and I hesitated, but as soon as I got a taste, I was all over that. A little expensive, but nice, clean, white tablecloths place. You'll be in the know after eating here. Thanks SF Survey for the reviews that made me try it.

“ I've been eating dim sum since I was a kid and this place is the best. I'm sure Yank Sing is great too but I can't stomach paying that much for dim sum. This place was recommended by a shop worker in Chinatown when I asked for the best dim sum restaurant and she was right.
Some people like the carts that get pushed around at other dim sum restaurants but I think Great Eastern's system works better. You order the dim sum from a printed menu and then they cook it. When it comes out it is warm and fresh. It hasn't been sitting in the cart for half an hour. Also, it is nice picking what to order from a menu because then you know what is in it. We end up ordering new things that are incredibly yummy that we wouldn't normally order because they look strange. ”

“ My review is certainly biased in that this place brings back good childhood memories, so therefore I love going there. The food, particularly the seafood, is much tastier than many other chinese restaurants in SF, and you can't ignore the fact that it's nicer and cleaner than many other chinese restaurants, especially those in Chinatown. ”

“ I was pretty disappointed with half of the six dishes that we ordered. The jellyfish appetizer was way too fishy. It brought back painful childhood memories of having to be forced fed cod fish oil. The fried oysters were tasteless. The eggplant dish was drenched in oil. It would certainly clot up your coronaries. The abalone, sea cucumber, lettuce dish could have fooled me. I mean, where was the abalone? I am not sure how the restaurant touts itself as one of Zagat's top rated restaurants. If you truly want the very best and freshest seafood served in a chinese restaurant, check out Koi Palace in Daly City. ”

“ The dim sum is good. Its great because they eliminate the cart full of food and instead have you pick what you want. When the food comes to you its steaming hot! Prices are moderate to pricey but I think it worth it. Their other dishes taste great. ”
